Edited by: 4q246 on 29/03/2008 14:04:35 I've started shopping around the market to find the best price to sell minerals.
All I have to do is look the sellers list, find the best price, I can go there and sell it for the price listed correct?

No.
The sellers list (the top half) shows people who want to sell the same minerals as you.
The buyers list (bottom half) shows people who want to buy your minerals. You have to take your minerals to where the buy order is, not where the sell order is.
Sort both of them by price (by clicking on the word PRICE at the top of the column), but sort the top one ascending (to show the smallest price first) and the bottom one descending (to show the best buy offer first).
If there's a big difference between the top and the bottom prices, you may want to set up your own sell order, by clicking the Advanced button (right-click, sell this item, Advanced button).

Some additional tips: - Buy/Sell Orders shown in green you can complete from your current location, you don't have to travel there. - Distance buy/sell orders are seen (by you and others) is dependent on skills. - If you (or the buyer/seller) have low trade skills, you'll see buy/sell orders from a greater distance if you're docked in a station

This is almost entirely wrong. 1. Only buy orders will show green - those that are green will allow you to sell to them wihtout moving from your current location. i.e. they've agreed in advance to come pick it up. 2. Buy/Sell orders will always be visible for the entire region, your skills only influence remote selling/buying/modification of orders. You don't need any skills to buy across the other side of the region, but you do need skills to place a remote buy order. 3. Being in a station has nothing to do with being able to see buy/sell orders.

thank you for the information guys. What skills would you recommend for something thinking about playing the market? Trade skills I assume, but anything else in particular?

If you want to move stuff around then industrial skill might be useful and possibly Transport ships and Freighter later on.

Handy skills:
Broker Relations - to reduce the cost of setting up market orders.
Accounting - to reduce transaction taxes.
Contracting - to increase the number of Contracts you can make.
(Your race) Industrial - a spaceship command skill that lets you squueze more into your Industrial ship.
-------
You can also reduce various costs/taxes if you raise standings at stations that you commonly do a lot of business at.
That should be good to get you started, at any rate.
Btw, it was either "WDA:Industry" or "The Drone Bay" podcasts that recently covered a bunch of these. Great shows, if you like podcasts.

You can put up sell orders if you want the best prices for your minerals. You need to modify your orders, though, so other sellers don't constantly undercut you. The Daytrading skill helps a lot with this, allowing you to modify orders remotely.
Train up <Racial> Industrial. Unless you are transporting -really- small volumn goods (like skillbooks or salvage), you will need it to haul stuff around.
Also, if you are serious about trade, train up <Your race> Industrial to V AND Industry to V. Serious traders often carry around a lot of very valuable ****. Carrying around huge quantities of valuable **** is a sure way to get suicide ganked.
The tech 2 blockade runner is the best way to move very high-value goods. It has a pretty small cargo bay, even with expanders, but is fast enough to warp in and out before the gankers can do anything.
Deep Space Transports have large cargo bays, very strong hulls and good resistances. This is if you need to carry around somewhat expensive ****. However, don't carry anything -TOO- valuable in this, as a large enough ganksquad can -still- take you down. DSTs are very slow, which means they rely on their tank to save them while CONCORD arrives. Again, not a great idea if you're carrying something REALLY valuable, so valuable that ganksquad will gladly suicide a ****ton of ships to kill you.
Lastly, Blockade Runners are -The- way to go if you move throughout 0.0/lowsec. You might not be able to warp fast enough even in a BR to get past a camp, but then you can of course MWD back to the gate.
Last rule: DO NOT FLY ON AUTOPILOT WHILE GOING THROUGH LOWSEC OR WHILE CARRYING ANYTHING VALUABLE.
See the posts in GD/Crime and punishment about the idiots who carry 750 mil/3 bil worth of goods on autopilot in a tech 1 hauler? Yeah, don't be like them.

Be a little careful with the blockade runners. They used to be excellent low-sec cargo runners and still are to some extent, but they now have a new enemy. The heavy interceptor with it's infinite warp scramble strength will stop even a stabbed up BR.
In 0.0 the BR has always been susceptible to the bubble and still is. Fitting a MWD and Cloak is the best solution to this.

If the blockade runner is fit/piloted properly it will be able to accelerate and warp off before a HIC can get it locked down. The area effect bubble does not work in lowsec, only 0.0, and in order to tank sentries a HIC is not going to have much room for modules to speed up lock time. -=^=-

This is if a Heavy Interdictor is alone. If its not alone, it will be remote sensor boosted most likely, thus having almost instalock on anything bigger than a frigate. So be cautious. |
