Hello everyone,
Im often on the road for work and cant always be around to keep my character's skill training going regularly. I wish there were some sort of way to que-up my skill training so that i dont always have to be around at such-and-such a time to assign the next skill i want my character to train.
I dont know if this has been mentioned before in the forums, but does anyone know if this is possible or if this is in the planning stages for the near future? Im gonna be on an international trip in July for a month and wont be able to log on to EVE using the company computers during that time. Id really like to be able to just set up a skill training retinue and then not have to think about it while im gone. Why do i have to always be there to assign the next skill training? It would seem logical that my character could just train on his/her own.

It's in the "planned" stages for almost two years now, but was never actually introduced. Wether this is good or bad, you be the judge of that.

Yeah. And why do you have to be there to fight? It would seem logical that your character can just do that on his own. Also buying/selling stuff; your character is perfectly capable of deciding what and when to buy/sell! Why is anyone even controlling characters? Characters of EVE, unite against this oppression!

Estel, I see your point and agree with you on a certain level. Definately, this is an interactive game and the point is that we are actually playing our characters. Still, it still would be nice to be to know that even though im paying for my account but cant use it, my subscription is giving me something. I dont know if i am an exception, but it is not possible for me to log on and interact with my characters every day. Perhaps a viable alternative would be that one could log on from any computer (not just where we have downloaded the game) to be able to modify skill training only.
Horchan, thanks for the link. Ill check it out.

Edited by: Estel Arador on 30/03/2008 19:41:50 What I do is train long skills when I'm offline and short skills when I'm online. This way I work on 2 or 3 (short, long and really long) skills at the time. Not the most efficient, but more efficient than losing time
If you can't be on for a couple of days and only have short skills or a 5-day skill, set the 5-day skill and train half of it. Next time you go away for two days you can train the remaining half. This way you can make 'really long' skills just 'long' and 'long' skills 'short'. Similarly, when I'll be online (or near my computer) for 3 or 4 hours, I'll train a 7-hour skill and change to longer skill when I go offline; then when I get on again I'll train the remainder of the 7-hour skill.

Yeah yeah, blah blah blah...I've heard this a million times. We all know how to do this, we're just saying we are fed up with having to because it's, as you admitted, inefficient and cumbersome.
The problem is when you get stuck at work or the server is down (no, that never happens!) or when the LONG training you've been doing is about to run out. I've been playing this game for several months and often I've ended up with several 'long' skills that are now short and I can't finish them due to the fact that they finish while I'm asleep. So you never finish a skill when you want to; instead you have to finish the skill days later than you planned, while in the meantime you have to train astrogeology 5 (which you NEVER plan on using) because it's the only long skill short enough to matter. This has happened to hundreds if not thousands of people and many of us are sick of it.
There is absolutely ZERO reason why a SINGLE skill que would hurt anything. So your post is FAIL.

Dudes! A single skill queue system will only prolong the inevitable which is skill completion at an undesired time. Thus, skill queue is fail unless you can queue your whole fukking EVE life! Imo, the latter is also fail!

Who's 'we'? Do you think your argument gets more weight if you put it like that? Just say what you think and leave others out of it (unless they want to contribute; they even might say they agree with you!)
Originally by: Kusha'an as you admitted, inefficient and cumbersome.
I also said it's more efficient than the alternative...
Originally by: Kusha'an The problem is when you get stuck at work or the server is down (no, that never happens!) or when the LONG training you've been doing is about to run out.
So what if your queue runs out while at work or the server is down? And a 'long' skill 'about to run out' is equivalent to a 'short' skill - you should've switched to another 'long' skill before going to work.
Originally by: Kusha'an I've been playing this game for several months and often I've ended up with several 'long' skills that are now short and I can't finish them due to the fact that they finish while I'm asleep.
So train them while online...
Originally by: Kusha'an So you never finish a skill when you want to; instead you have to finish the skill days later than you planned,
If you really want the skill to be finished, noone is stopping you from setting it anyway and losing some skill training time. It's your choice.
Originally by: Kusha'an while in the meantime you have to train astrogeology 5 (which you NEVER plan on using) because it's the only long skill short enough to matter.
Train something else to V. Don't tell me you have no other skills at IV.
Originally by: Kusha'an This has happened to hundreds if not thousands of people and many of us are sick of it.
Speak for yourself. Argumentum ad populum won't work because (1) it's a logical fallacy and (2) if "hundreds if not thousands of people" are sick of it there are still hundreds of thousands not sick of it.
Originally by: Kusha'an There is absolutely ZERO reason why a SINGLE skill que would hurt anything. So your post is FAIL.
I never said a single skill queue would hurt anything. In my two posts so far I've explained why "It would seem logical that my character could just train on his/her own." isn't a good argument and I've explained what the current best way (in my opinion) of skill training is.
But I can see the whines already: "ZOMG my two short skill are going to end during the night and I'll lose skill training time, [stike]I want[/strike] we want more skills in the queue!" "Ah", you'll counter, "but you can set a short skill and a long skill." "But", I'll ask, "what's the difference between just setting a long skill?" "Well", you'll answer, "at least you get the short skill trained." "Yes", I'll reply, "but you can train the short skills in the current systems too." "Moreover", you'll say, "you can have a skill 'in reserve' for when the server goes down unexpectedly." "That's nice", I'll confirm, "but what if the server goes down when your skill queue ends?" "If so", you'll reply, "that's still better than not having a queue at all." "Damn", I'll decide, "that's right!"
Wow, this is the best discussion I've had with a skill-queueist I've ever had. If only they'd all use sensible arguments like this, instead of unconvincing logical fallacies and personal attacks. I didn't even have to pretend to have multiple people (using 'we') on either of the sides either!

Or the one in my signature - Sadly CCP thinks its better to just ignore something MANY people want... And before we get into a discussion its about a ONE Skill-Queue aka Backupskill for unscheduled downtimes/isp-problems etc CCP Please give us casual players a Skill-Queue !

Ah what happened to your original response "Et tu, Brutus? "? Realised the irony of using an actual logical fallacy to accuse me of doing the same?
("Et tu, Brute" was used by Shakespeare. "Tu quoque" would be a more literal translation of the Greek words Caesar allegedly spoke at his death; it also is a name for a logical fallacy, a subset of ad hominem.)
