As the title suggests I want to throw isk to a very good fit for a thanatos money no object.
ATM My thanatos is a cap battery type fit for sustaned use (mids cap rechargers lows cap power relays and 2 faction adaptive nano membranes). Kinda boring really when a chimera can fit gistii this and that.
Suggestions please. |

pimping a thanatos is pointless. Even with core x-type hardeners, you can't match a T2 chimera's tank. Just fit T2/AN and save the 2b it's going to cost you.

The point is you will loose every ship the moment you are alone and not in docking range or scrambeled. You can fit an insane officer tank but you will die if you dont have a support fleet and get bumbed away from station or scanned at a ss. A Thanatos aswell as a Moros or a Chimera
I personally see no point in high end facton fitting a carrier. I thinks its better to loose a good t2 fitted thanatos,learn sth from it buy a new one and go out, then loosing a multi billion fitting and not be able to buy another one to show your enemys what you have learned from the loss

What most people will propably agree on: If you are gonne die, 3b+ in fittings wont help you..

Carrier's strength is in spider tanking, if you're at the point where the spider-tank is breaking I doubt any pimp fitting is going to save yourself, it doesn't seem worthwhile. If you're not spider tanking, well nothing brings in the vultures like a lone capital looking for a fight, you might be able to fend off more than a standard fitting but they'll just keep on coming.
The most I'd suggest is throwing some t2 rigs on it, if you're very rich they can be a nice step up in terms of cap use etc, even at that price though you're throwing isk at something and having very little payoff actually stick.
If you just want a pimp carrier for the hell of it, officer cap rechargers, 2 CAR + core x hardeners + cap rigs. Highs officer Neuts 2x, then mix of remote repping + smartbombs. You'll be moderately better off, down a lot of isk, and just as vulnerable as ever, but what the hell it would be fun to be better equipped than half the motherships in the game.

Cap ships are just like Battleships now.
T2 fit is the norm. Anything less and you are laughed at.
Even Faction fitting them isn't a big deal, as if you live in the right 0.0 region, most faction items are dirt cheap.
Now, officer... another story. As others have mentioned. Cap ships are either going to be fine with T2, as they live, or they will die because of no support. The difference between T2 and faction for cap ships is so small that it's not worth it. The the isk you would spend on the Faction gear, and buy a second carrier and fit it with T2. that way, when you loose your carrier(and you will eventually if you undock and use it for pvp) then you'll have a backup one.

I dont mind putting a pair of Amarr navy EANM's on an Archon, hell even a TS neut or something. The problem is when you somehow think it will signifigantly improve your preformance in situation where T2 wont cut it. This is true for capitals, it wont make any difference.
Supercaps however will actually benefit alot more from Officer fittings, Deadspace hardners and a proper fit can give an Aeon over 90% resistances across the board if you overload it for instance, and stuff like that can actually save your ship.
