Originally by: Xublai I fully understand the purpose of allowing criminal activity, like piracy, but the punishment system is woefully inadequate. As I mentioned in another post, loss of security for a gate camper is the equivalent of telling a murderer that they can't shop at Macy's anymore. Since Eve attempts to recreate a practically lawless environment, then they should increase the realism and allow players to form their own militias and posses to hunt down criminals (hiring of mercenaries is allowed, but is more like privateering than actual private policing). I would also like to see pod-killing allowed with kill rights if you are pk'd. Again, the rules as designed now not only don't really punish griefers, they positively encourage them by not having anything close to a balanced system.
I think this would help Eve evolve into a real virtual world as opposed to the very sophisticated, but unbalanced PvP arena it is now. The typical response by griefers--to spend more months and monthly fees to build up a strong character--is really a joke since I would guess that it takes at least two and a half years for the skill training to balance out. I suspect that's why nearly all the strongly pro-PvPers are established vets--they don't understand that Eve is categorically different to noobs now than it was 3 years ago. It's a problem exacebated by the fact that one's chances in PvP depend almost entirely on the the time one has played the game and learned requisite skills. Three years ago, the Vets typically were only playing a few months longer than the noobs. So what to do?
I would like CCP to allow players take on the pirates and gate-campers; get rid of Concord altogether. Let players and player-corps take on NPC corps and eventually supplant them altogether. Let the security of various systems be dynamic and based upon actual lawful/lawless behaviour. Let us police Eve ourselves and it will be a better game and more of a truly virtual world. Otherwise, it will remain a nice PvP game for vets and a frustrating bore for everyone els
Negative security status prohibits pirates from entering high sec and recieving npc protection. They have to stay in low sec which is already player policed. You want to be allowed to hunt down pirates? You already are! I just don't understand what you are after, how would you like to police eve for the greater good that you aren't allowed to currently? You have high sec which is mostly safe and justice is enforced by npcs, then you have low sec where npc's are still a bit harsh on the more evil aligned pilots and local vigilantes can lay the smack on any pirates in sight, usually with the blessing of 2 sentry guns. 0.0 of course, might makes right and everything is governed by players.
As for needing several years of skill training it is complete rubbish. If you can fit an mwd and an improved cloaking device you can enter all of empire space with no risk. Thats 10 days training tops. Surviving really is nothing about training skills, but learning Eve. The people who wait 3 years before they feel they are ready to enter 0.0 is the laughing stock of eve. Because they die the funniest.
