I know of one other person that sees this and was wondering if anyone else here does.
From time to time (usually when undocking) the 3D rendering stalls. The overview, HUD, chat channels and in-space icons continue updating but the 3D textures are frozen. If any new 3D object is loaded it will be rendered once on top of what's already there.
It can be cured by toggling the starmap on/off.
I've bug reported it and (for a change) it hasn't been filtered but there doesn't seem to have been any actual response.
My card is an NVidia 8800GT. CPU is Athlon x64x2 3.2.
I recently switched from XP to Vista and it still does it. It also only did it after the 1.1 patch. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran)

Please add one person to the list. I've had it happen infrequently.
XP SP2; CPU: Athlon 64 X2 dual 3800+.
Old graphics card: 7900GT. Recently switched to a 8800GT, and for the first time since the new card, had it happen today. Redocking fixes it, I wasn't aware that toggling the starmap changed anything on it. Can't seem to properly reproduce it, though; last time it happened was while flying, opening cargo and moving it about. Not entirely pleasant experience, being in an unfriendly 0.0 system ;)

Please bug report it. The more of us that do the better. I've supplied a logserver report for one instance but to my eyes it didn't really show much.

Heh, that's what most commonly triggers it for me. Every now and again I have to fly around picking up the result of buy orders and it happens every five or six undocks but possibly becomes more frequent as I fly around.
I have also had it happen once or twice when undocking for a mission but my guess is that flying around and docking at different stations is loading more and more textures into memory which triggers this. This fits in with the thread elsewhere that suggested it happens more frequently when running multiple clients. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

I had several of these graphics glitches today (not encountered them before) - they seemed to get worse with each session change. Relogging fixed them for the time being.
Appearance of the glitch is best described as the graphics that should be displayed being overlaid with oversized/distorted/multiple instances of portraits, icons, text etc.
I'm running the classic client (reinstalled when the last patch corrupted my install) on XP Professional. CPU is AMD Athlon 64 3500+, with an NVidia GeForce 8600GT and 2GB memory.

Same problem for me. with single or multiple clients running. Usually when undocking, trying to do a "show info" on a pilot, when a pilot in my buddies list logs on or logs off or at the very end of a warp, when entering the grid near the stargate.
Athlon64X2 5600+, GeForce 7600GT, windows XP SP2. (same bug with a Core2/ATI computer)
Tip: right click and "reset camera", it works. |

I noticed this after the boost patch and bugrepped it about a month ago. A few days ago it was finally filtered, but they said the description wasn't clear and could I send more details. I am going to refer them to this thread
I run off a 2Gb core duo Vaio laptop with 7400 GPU, but get this under multiple clients / extended connection time (ie high load and lots of leak), usually once the task manager says I am above 1.6Gb/2Gb memory in use.
I saw one worrying thread that suggested it might be first signs the graphics chip was about to melt (for some reason my laptop's NVidia control panel does not have the option to monitor GPU temperatures ). I do run my laptop on a cooling stand to help, but cannot verify what actual running temps are.
However, Since the last patch (star-killer + fps fixer) my PC has been much more tolerant to this problem, but it has still happened under prolonged use of multiple accounts.
So, is it a CCP problem, or temperature / imminent hardware fail ? I hope its not the latter...

I updated my bug report on Saturday with DXDiag output and a logserver report. It's been filtered as 'unreproducible' so looks like the devs didn't even get to see it.
I'm considering writing a snotty message, frankly. ISTM that bugs get filtered far too easily and there seems no point faffing around with the logserver or DXDiag. Guess we're going to have to live with this bug. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

I don't beleive it's a GPU fault. I run with Interval 1 so my FPS is limited to 60. GPU temp barely rises above 60 degrees.
It also seems unlikely to be GPU (or even driver) related if we can 'fix' the problem through a camera reset. The most likely culprit is the Eve client.

That isn't something to hope for. 'filtered' means that the report has been rejected before it reached the devs. It seems to happen to 90% of my reports and I'm sick of it.
As noted in my reply above this one - I've suppled a logserver report and dxdiag text and still been filtered. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

I have this problem too, have been having it for awhile, hence why I've been subbing, training long long skills, and unsubbing again. I recently upgraded to a quad core, 780imobo with 3x 8800GTS cards in SLI, 4GB of Dominator RAM...I mean what more could I need? I've seen NO change in performance between my previous 650i mobo with 2x 8800GTS and 4GB of Dominator RAM. The sole purpose of upgrading was because it was a cheap move and a good deal by Velocity Micro (the providers of my hardware) and that way I can completely max out my play experience on Crysis and LotRO.
So anyway, whenever I undock from a station, warp, enter a system, ect, I experience this problem. The client hangs up a bit and I drop to around 5fps or less. When I circle the camera around for about 2 minutes, it clears up and I have 60+fps again. This issue makes entirely no sense to me. When Trinity was in beta, I had 60fps with graphics maxed ALL THE TIME. There were no stalls, no hang ups, no fps drops, and no crashes. Why since 1.0.1 was deployed has this issue arisen? We've since had a couple patches and the issue still hasn't been cleared up. As I can clearly see, I am not the only one with this problem.

Edited by: Andrue on 21/04/2008 18:57:02 Sorry, Zeyphr that isn't the bug we are discussing.
What we are discussing is a complete 'stall' of the rendering engine. It isn't possible to do anything with the camera view other than reset it. It's as if our cards have just lost the ability to render 3D objects.
The comments I posted from CCP wrt to my bug report make sense..or at least if that's what's happening it explains what we are seeing. If the client can suddenly no longer find it's textures then I guess it will stop rendering.
The mystery is how on Earth it can suddenly lose access to them.
One thing does occur to me though:What level of graphics caching are people using? I'm running with Extreme. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

Let's just hope there's a hotfix on the way to fix this problem that was clearly introduced in the last patch.

I set color depth to : 24bits + 8bits alpha and for some hours and i haven't got the problem. I will test it more.
Can someone with the same problem try these settings too ? |
