With all the questions raised about how to do missions I thought I might be able to help the newer people with their job as an agent runner. This is in no way a complete guide on how to do missions but it might be of some use.
1. Do the training missions. This will give you a faction standing of 2.0 when you are done with them. What does this mean? Simply put if you are Gallente, and do the missions, then you will be able to access any Gallente corp agents that with ranking of 2.0 or less. This usually works out to be any 1st level agents and any 2nd level agents with a negative rating.
2. Find a system that has several stations of one corp. This will allow you to run multiple missions at once. What I have done is looked at several offers and do all the missions that are going in one direction. I usually am able to complete them within the alloted bonus time. When you get back to the home system hit the agents again and see what allows you to do the most missions per trip.
3. Train social, negotiations, connections and criminal connections. Social gives you 5% greater rating, per level, with an agent per mission that you do with the agent. Negotiations gives you more isk per mission. I must admit that this skill is hard to see the difference. Connections gives you a .4 bonus ranking for a corps agents per level. How does this work? If you have a ranking of .6 with a certain corp then a connections level of 3 will give you a 1.2 increase to the corps rating with you. You will be able to access any agent that requires a 1.8 or greater rating. Connections does not give you a higher faction, however. Only doing the training missions or doing important missions will increase your faction.
4. To gain the fastest is to do as many of the highest rating agents at once. If you get to the point of having to use a high quality Lev 1 agent vs. a crappy Lev 2 agent use the lev 2 agent. The Lev 2 agent may not give great rewards you are not there for the good rewards per se. You are there to gain as much corp rating as soon as possible. A lev 2 agent will always give more corp rating than a lev 1 agent. The whole point of doing lev 1 and 2 agents is to get to eventually use lev 3 agents.
5. Important missions. Eventually you will get "important missions." Put your highest priority on getting these done first. These will significantly will increase your faction, corp and agent standing by completing them. It is the only way, I think, to gain faction.
6. There are different divisions within a corp and those divisions will determine what type of missions you will get. Certain corps, in and of themselves, will give out more combat missions. Any Navy corp has a higher proportion of combat oriented agents that a production corp. Keep this in mind if you want to do mostly hauling. Also showing up in an industrial ship will tend to give you more hauling missions than combat missions.
7. R&D agents. This is a specialized field that requires a lot of extra work to do. It is better covered in another letter.
Let me leave now and think of a few other items before my brain melts. If anyone has any other suggestions bring them up.

Important missions are very important to get your standing with corp up. They count as probably 15 to 20 normal missions. They also get your faction standing up. Those 2 are the important factors cause the rating with the agent in itself is not that important although the more he likes you more is the probability on getting good missions. Corp standings are very important as you advance in the game cause when a corp takes 5% of your refining of lets say 10K ark, well, U do the math. Faction standings are very important too because with high faction standings U can choose from many different corp under that faction to do missions. Hence important missions are VERY important to do, AND PLEASE MAKE THEM MORE COMMON. Praeludium to success |
