So.. Apple claims that the latest release of EVE adds the Trinity graphics upgrade for the Mac. Woot.
But...
I downloaded it and installed it on my x1600 equipped iMac and MacBook Pro, and still see "Your computer does not support premium content." Apple's page lists x1600's as a supported card:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/games/demos_updates/eveonline.html
Is this just the minimum for "classic" graphics, or has the download not actually been updated (even though the file's creation/modification date shows today at 12:18am)?
I guess I'll find out for sure when I get home to my Mac Pro..

Edited by: Memkani on 04/04/2008 20:23:25 The current build is 51200 which is the same one that you get when you download the full Mac client as of this writing. I don't get though why the Apple download page basically says that version has the premium graphics in it. Looks like a mistake with whoever submitted the description.
I am guessing it just showed up on the Apple site because CCP just submitted it yesterday. They lost a lot of people due to constant crashes in previous builds and feel they got a lot of that taken care of. Because of that they wanted to make sure people were aware of this newer version (which we already are running) and entice them to try it again.

Edited by: Browncoat Kageryu on 04/04/2008 20:42:44 So now all those people are going to be disappointed when they think they've been promised the new graphics, but still don't get it.
The odd thing is that the installer I re-downloaded from eve-online.com/downloads has a very recent timestamp.

They use Mac's to make the game but what??
You can't play premium graphics on them!!
Mac's are just like PC's now anyway so this is a complete unix matter. Run the Vista or XP they say!!
Cmooon! All my work is on OS X and the software I use is not available on win.
Hope they are doing something about this!!
(I have some trust issues there though!! since waiting for this for more than 3 months now!!)

You know, all that fancy smancy stuff would be nice... for screengrabs , but even the PC dudes play largely in 'classic' because of the huge FPS hit they get. I don't think you want to PvP with premium graphics on. ----------------------------- No, you cannot have my stuffÖ. |

Yeah! But there is a HUGE difference between having only Classic Graphics and the ability to CHOOSE when to use Classic Graphics!

I would hope they've made at least SOME progress, considering Q1 is now in fact entirely over.

Edited by: Caxie on 12/04/2008 09:38:57 I don't understand what is taking so long. In other games and applications when there is an update to the graphics engine that is reflected to the users regardless of operating system and client. Graphics content are objects and are not different based on the users operating system. So in truth we may have the game content (storyline and updated modules and ships) but that is the only part of Trinity that we have. They should put a disclaimer on their website saying that the new graphics engine is only for PC users so that it is easier for us users on a Mac to explain to buddies with trial accounts that they need a PC to see the new graphics.
I"m all for bug fixes, but there shouldn't be a Caste system in place for users on different operating systems. Clients need to be updated concurrently so that all users are able to get the same gaming experience regardless of system that they choose to play on.
My system for reference is a 2008 Apple Mac Pro running a Dual Xeon 2.8 GHz 8-core with the graphics card being a NVIDIA Geforce 8800 GT 512MB DDR3 dedicated with up to 2.5 GB shared memory. I installed Vista through Bootcamp so that I could play Crysis at the highest settings. I can play EVE with the premium content with Vista, but I didn't by a Mac Pro to use Vista.

As far as I know, CCP is relying on what appears to be a different company - TransGaming - to implement the Trinity graphics engine for OS X.
So it seems that the project isn't entirely under CCP's control.
