As we were just discussing on the idea labs forum http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=74129
Quite a few corps use voice comms to communicate more efficiently in battle and in large groups. I think it would be of great benefit to those who wish to play in this style to get an idea of which corps use this technology, so I am inviting any corps to advertise the fact that they use voice comms here in this thread, so other like minded individuals can find a common location to see which other corps use this method of communication and can find a corporation that fits their chosen mode of play. It may even boost your corp numbers.
I use Teamspeak and have a server set up on one of my work machines so it doesn't impact on my home network. Unfortunatly only a couple of my RL friends who play eve use it right now as none of my corp seems particularly interested in it as we are a small corp and we don't really have any massive events that require it.

It's invaluable in combat but the social advantage it gives is also not to be sniffed at. Just because your corp doesn't run events with lots of players or doesn't participate in fleet battles doesn't mean you won't get an advantage out of using voice software.
I have always found that the use of voice comms helps you build a stronger team as well as improving combat effectiveness etc..

I've had to withdraw my plans to apply to several corps because they would've insisted on me using Teamspeak, or some such. Thankfully, not quite "everybody" does it yet.

The biggest thing stopping people seems to be they don't have a headset with a mic. It is a very good and not very expensive investment. It sure beats taping a mic to the side of your head

Well i'm still looking for a corp without a chat channel so I never have to talk to my corpmates.

Edited by: Danton Marcellus on 18/04/2004 01:28:13 People I used to play counterstrike with gave me some sound advice,'don't ever get a mic!' & I haven't.
I'm a lot less offensive in writing and can't really be bothered to speak any of the witty remarks I type.
I use EVE to brush up on my english and in that sense the watered down teamspeak shorthand isn't too appealing.
We have people on teamspeak yes, just not me.

A voice comms is great for EvE, why?
(1) You get a better sense of knowing your Corp mates and guests on the channel.
(2) In a fleet battle communication is the key (but you do need a clear channel with dedicated speakers).
(3) It's so much more fun to take the p1ss outta your Corp mates *winks at Toulak*.
(4) Saves you from having to type all the bloody time!
(5) Many more bonus points but it's 04*41 here and I am going to bed!

A corp that doesn't use voice comm will most likely never be an effective combat force.
Also, voice comm can be very fun too.
My corp and I have lots of fun just chatting about random stuff. ------------- My salsa makes all the pretty girls want to dance and take off their underpants. I <3 ( . Y . ) |

yeah, and discovering that chick is a dude... priceless. lol. But seriously, I couldn't imagine doing anything of value in combat if I had to watch gang chat for someone to call a target, or give an order. If you want to be at all responsive in battles, you simply must use some form of voice comms. On a side note I prefere that EVE, and voice comms be kept like they are... I dont want CCP telling me what comms package I must use. And setting up TS, or V is a walk in the park for most peeps, personally I like TS best thanks to its handy bandwidth throttle (only really important to those of us on the bandwidth challenged short bus).

We use TeamSpeak too.
I don't like fighting alongside people who can only communicate via gang-chat (with various exceptions for pilots who I trust to know what they're doing).

Yep, I wouldn't doubt it. If I count correctly, Evolution believe it or not, has at least 3 female pilots. The comment I made about the chick being a dude, well that was more of an inside joke I guess. (;

I have a take it or leave it attitude, somedays I can be bothered to jack up but mostly not. I think if the GAME required it then yep use it but nothing can beat the panic of trying to type, fire missiles, look up stuff and warp where you didn't mean to go, sort of adds a bit of a panic/manic element to gameplay.
Don't try to be a great man, just be a man and let history make it's own judgements.

TS can be installed in 2 mins, and u dont need to have a mic, as it can be heard through your speakers.
You dont have to speak, u just have to listen.

We've a core of players who are on our TS server all the time just chatting and shooting the breeze, a couple of which have no mic. It's a great social tool, helps us to all get to know each other, it's easier to talk about issues, hell it is just far superior to text.
However, when we go into a fight everyone jumps onto TS mic or no mic. I'm generally very uncomfortable fighting without everyone at least listening on TS.
It's beyond me why some people don't like it and why not everyone uses it, I tend to log on to TS and speak to the team before I even get in game and sometimes when I'm not even playing.
It also saves me about $1000 every month talking to my brother back in the UK!
Also got 2 ladies in the corp and they certainly mix things up a bit on TS! Causes a few bizarre behaviours initially when we have visitors on our server ;)

EVE is a game, and Baldour Ngarr does not exist in real life. Anyone stupid enough to want to communicate with him in real life, instead of in the game, should be sectioned. And if I could install TS in one second I still don't have any possible use for it.

(nothing personal, that quote yust fitted)
some people like me dont like to use TS (even to listen) becouse we generaly play late at night with 2 parents and a sister sleeping in the next room...
Also the fact that allot of us can only type/read english (or thinks they can ) doesent help. People who can type it dont necesairly understand the spoken form of english...
Myself for example, I can write/read english, I watch most my movies in english without subs and understand them well, but if I tune in to TS for 5mins I'm lost... Nothing as strange as hearing sombady talk with a strong Irish accent

Garion, good point about the language sometimes being a problem. Some of the German guys get a bit lost on our TS server sometimes but we do have a decent mix of English, American, Swedish, French and sometimes German & Czech with very few problems in the main. Actually we get more confusion between some of the Americans and Brits than anything else ;)
It's pretty easy to get the point when only one guy is shouting out enemy players names though, that works in almost any language ;)

I luv TS, too bad my mic is alkjsdflajkdf....won't work.
I installed new drivers, then my mp3 player wouldn't work... beware!
TS is a great program the only other one i've heard that some think is better is Ventrilo, which is more confusing to use I think.. TS u just boot and ur on in like 10seconds.

Teamspeak allowes you to communicate to your fellow gamers and having fun on TS is sometimes alot more than half the fun while playing EVE.
A great bunch of people on TS make even the most boring chores fun.

Edited by: Khyle on 19/04/2004 10:01:27 My 0.2 isk:
TS in combat: can be invaluable, not that mandatory if you have ppl knowing their job.
TS for chatting: 1. I have yet to meet anyone being as chatty on TS as on chat. Including emotes and roleplaying, which is mostly impossible on TS(which is direct player to player communication), i like chats a lot more than TS. 2. Casual gaming. If i use a chat, i have no problem doing a biobreak, talking to my gf, whatever, as i cant miss anything. Along the same lines i have no prob waiting for an answer for a minute on chat, if someones busy, with TS you just drop your question into the void. 3. It is much easier to follow a multithreaded conversation on corp chat than on TS 4. TS often isolates non-native speakers to some point 5. Being on TS all the time can really annoy your RL environment
Conclusion: I personally gladly join TS during fights, but that is player-player communication. For char-char communication you can either mostly kill it, or still use the chat for, ermm, chatting.
