as there is not much response in the geek forum :P i want to ask here as well if there is interest on a standalone map application based on opengl at all. currently i spent several months on it, but continuing this project without any interest by people may be a waste of time :)

Impressive work but I must be honest and say I fail to understand what use it would be other than studying a route or similar, out of game.

it is intented to show sov data, outposts, well everything the eve-api provides. there's a server part as well which imports all the data and provides it to the map application. the server has a small built-in http server as well, so it's possible to show pilots on the map due to positional data provided by the ingame browser, so it might help to keep an overview over a fleet. _________________________________________________

The only out of game map functionality I'd like to see is a visual display of the relationship of heavenly bodies in system otherwise Ombey's eve maps are functional enough for me. It used to be possible to get a 2d image of the system and clusters of moons and belts in a single glance and it intuitively aided directional scanning. What the christ happened to it?
Basically I'd like a surrogate for this absented feature as there is no way to study a system layout short of visiting it.
(Unless there is and in which case I just lost the game). ___ Eve Players are not very smart. Support Killmail Overhaul

what exactly do you mean with relationship? distances, positions? _________________________________________________

2d positions, for example I jump in from gate x, how many celestials will be within scan range?

Your app looks good so far, keep up the good work.
I did start a FlashMAP some time ago, but then stopped working on it, as it was just more of a project born out of boredom that time. Also has no real functionality rather then looking nice .

So far, this looks good but as you say don't do much. I'm no programmer but the following is my thoughts on possible uses:
could capture fleet data and show where fleet/wing/squad commanders are & then the target system. Full API keys needed? But when following where the stragglers are this could help, or even checking your cyno mate is in the correct system.
Out of game route planning; select two or more systems & optimise a route between the two. The in game planner will only allow you to start in/from your current system, which is useless for future (none jump) freighter movement planning. If you could then copy this planned route to the clip board for sharing it would help immensely.
A system search function is obviously needed, it took me quite some time to find my current system being as their is no labels.

this was the primary intension for the application, there's no api key required. the pilots have to visit the server's tracking site as trusted site with the ingame browser. so this gives very exact positional data with a resolution of 5 or 10 seconds, depending on how many pilots are in the fleet. i'll need to tweak that because i have no experience if the server can manage up to 600 pilots a time.

this would be no problem, thanks for the idea.

of course, it's only a, umm proof of concept, this will be possible in a first useful version, if i decide to continue this project :)

As someone with 2 computers on my desk the idea of having the EVE map up on my second box all the time showing tactical data is extremely appealing. Not to mention it would increase immersion a great deal. So ya, I'm interested .
