WH's were considered and may be where we end up once we can manufacture cap ships inside the WH. Actually we can manufacture cap ships now, but a discouraging aspect, as far as we can tell, is that a "death" of a corp member means appearing in normal space with the difficult task of returning to said WH. Maybe there is a trick to it we don't know about.
On PVP comments, we are fully vested in "home defense." We are of a mind to not go out to fight others (although that happens to be an acceptable playing style for others).
The game mechanics can be bolstered to help the little guys and gals. For example, have WH's without their weird physics, and with a stable entrance, and etc.
Have systems that can only be sov'ed by established, small corps (even though the CCP code would have to be careful about large alliances spawning off small corps to snag new systems).
Another suggestion is to do what Ultima Online did years ago: have one system for the pvp'ers, and another copy in parallel with no pvp (or restricted). UO started out with a full on, pvp, kill or be killed, world. They evolved into two parallel worlds that one could choose over the other.
The same effect happened to Dark Ages of Camelot. They had total pvp and then they bridged their worlds and restricted pvp to areas in between the worlds.
I don't have the answer for Eve. And as one writer posted, "maybe this isn't the game for you." That remark plays into my concern for Eve's future growth. Why not provide a game system that serves both sides? Otherwise, the writer is correct, Eve was fun until I hit the glass ceiling and now it may be time to move on. I really like many aspects of Eve. If CCP cannot change their business model to widen their customer base, then I look forward to the next company that does see the market and provides a choice for me.
I will end with an example but you must not get upset due to certain key words; reach for the message: the reason World of Warcraft is so popular is that they provide both pvp worlds and pve worlds (with portals into pvp areas). 12+ million subscribers versus 50k subscriptions? CCP, please consider the math.
The whole POINT of EVE is that it is ONE UNIVERSE, ONE PLAYERBASE, ONE WORLD. You split it off into different worlds, you have WOW, which while successful, is also incredibly stupid. You would destroy EVE if you divided it into different worlds.
As was said, make friends with older players, work towards gaining their trust, and go from there. You'll get there if you want it enough, but don't expect it to be handed to you. |
