It would be nice if CCP would focus on making their game playable to a large audience. I have a mobility radeon 7500C (Dell Inspiron 5100) and can not engage in battle, for whenever I get webbified my game crashes. I would think these types of fixes would be the most important first, then add content later.

Its not the card its the drivers. Unfortunatly those drivers are made b the jackasses who make the comps, so they never get updated. So you need the catalyst drivers. Now those normally don't install with that chip set. But the do work search for Patje's moddding tools and get it then use it to mod the catalyst drivers so they install. Then voila it works.

the problem is, that the newer catalyst drivers (when modded) REALLY dont like the mob radeon 7500.
i had problems with the 4.4 - my computer really died on me :(
had to clean and reinstall many many things - and am now sitting on Catalyst 3.9
but still - using warp disruptors is very very nasty on my computer - basically i get mega-lag, white screen, and usually crash.

Yes I have tried using the modding method, but the drivers only cause other problems and still don't fix the problems I have. I've gone back to just using my old drivers again. Wish there was a fix for these things. One can hardly blame the drivers entirely though. Why has every other game worked perfectly? I'm a gamer...I play a lot of them, and never have I had another problem with my video card.

Well, I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 with mobility radeon. And the only problem I have is with the avatar portrait. Most of them (if not all of them) appear hairless. Some of the ships and drones icons appear black, blank, or not complete.
This is really annoying, and cut a good part of the fun of the game. ----

Edited by: Activor Faust on 20/04/2004 13:44:34 Edited by: Activor Faust on 20/04/2004 13:44:07 I have the same bug... All characters appear bald (without hair) on my HP Evo 610c (with mobile Radeon 7500).
Amusing; for about 5 minutes.

and do you get horrid lag/crash from warp disruptors? -----

About the warp disruptors...yes I do get horrible lag and a crash with them...my whole screen goes white. It isn't as bad when I disrupt someone else...I can see the white and is annoying, but my game doesn't crash. I was using the Dell provided drivers, but I've switched to the Omega drives...i haven't noticed a difference yet, but I haven't tried being warp disrupted. I'll test it and get back to you.

Im running eve on an Mobility Readeon 9000 with the newest Catalyst drivers. Works Nice...I only have some bad textures at some amarr stations. The thing is that ATi drivers dont support the mobil chip normaly. But i found an nice little tool that changes something in the drivers Inf file.
Its called mobile mod Download

I'm runnig a Fujitsu N3010 with the ATI Radeon Mobility 9000. I'm glad, well not really, to hear that there are others experiencing the same problems and not just me.
I'm running the latest driver provided by Fujitsu but with the latest patch, I can't even get in the game. I can get past the character selection screen, but then the game is stuck on black screen.
Anyone have any tips on how I can at least get on and play? Will this Fatje's modding site help me? I don't wanna screw up my laptop just for one game.

OK. Fujitsu Lifebook E7010 radeon mobility 7500
my original drivers wouldn't really run eve - it loaded by all sorts of graphics glitches - and modules (shield, web, ab, etc) would usually crash me, or give huge lag spikes and funny images. I also had a "box" of coloured static surrounding me - basically where the starfield was painted i got glitched graphics
sometimes playable - othertime not. (try seeing anything when the universe looks like purple black and yellow static... <shudded>
atm using Catalyst 3.9 drivers - modded my patje's modder so that the 7500 will run them.
everything is stable :) Eve runs mostly well (avatar bald etc - webbers still crash me - couple of icons are incorrect/missing for ships etc).
its a huge improvement, as 90% of the time i play normally now.
today i am going to try the upgrade to 4.4.... <scary music>
normally its worth it i would say. -----

why you are buying graphic cards without sufficent support? Not all feature are implemented in the different driver or some features are buggy. Moreover many of this special OEM-cards (or on board cards) do never get updated driver.
If you don't get support by the seller of the PC/Laptop, you are lost. Buy the hardware of the mainstream... --- FSR in EVE

Pham - i agree, but sometimes we dont get a choice. Or have computers that were meant for other things.
Mine is for work, and from work - i had limited choices, and this was the only one that would even vagualy have a chance of playing eve when i got it (like 1.5 years ago)
and ps - DO NOT install catalyst 4.4 on a mobility radeon 7500. it does not like it.
<sigh - back to fixing that macing now> -----

umm, if by special-oem graphics you mean ALL laptops, then you are correct. just what is "mainstream" for laptops??? Its obvious you are not a hardware person, so stop trying. the 9600/9700 are the most powerfull graphics cards hands down for laptops. nvidia has nothing even close. the only probleem people have with the mobility cards is with EVE. i have not heard of anyone not having problems. alot of people have problems with ati cards in desktops as well.
oh, and if you rely on the seller for support, you either overpaid, or your gonna be screwed.

I use a mobility radeon 9600 and I am very satisfied with my notebook and graphics card. Although about half a year ago, some games always immediately crashed (C&C Generals for example) and eve from time to time, those bugs are now fixed in the graphics drivers and everything is working fast and well. Even Far Cry runs perfectly smooth with medium details and looks great. When the Notebook is running on battery, the GPU chip/mem clock speed is throttled down to reduce battery usage (like the CPU does)
The Radeon 7500 is unfortunately rather old and therefore I am not surprised that some games don't run on it but it is true that its partly the fault of the eve-developers.

I have a suggestion for CCP...since they can't seem to figure out how to fix this, or they don't care enough to worry about it...why don't they just in the next patch add an option to turn off the effects that cause people to crash...That can't possibly be that hard.
Oh, for clarification, it is not merely the graphics card drivers...NO OTHER GAME do I have problems with JUST EVE.

grab the standard ati drivers, then google dhmodtool, and use that to make them compatible and install them, works like bliss

yeah, but some of the newer Cat versions dont with with older cards very well.
the cat v4.4 works with a mob radeon 7500, but it has WORSE performance that cat v3.9 does.
+ i get more graphical glitches with v4.4 :(
but even with 3.9 there are still some effects which pretty much kill me - especially webbers - when i look at the web effect i get like 1 frame ever 2 seconds. :(
that is death in a battle.
so at the moment i feel i am constrained to mining :( -----

I too have the mobility radeon 7500c and Eve is the ONLY game that gives me grief. However, having read this thread things are much better now. That dhmodtool is a Godsend! Before my main problem was amarr stations. Just looking at them would give me the blue screen of death. Too bad I couldn't avoid them as my corp uses them often. Anyway, after moding the catalyst driver (version 4.5) I can now look at them without much effect to my machine. It lags slightly but I'll take that over crashing. Also to my surprise the "Sun is occluded by ships" works too! This mod is one of the best things to happen to my little ol' laptop. Thanks to whoever made this tool, we mobile radeon users owe ya one. ;)
