When I was a wee nipper in Eve, I used to salvage wrecks from my missions, and the salvage and loot used to just about double the bounty and rewards value, if not more. Well, I ran some missions again these last couple of days for the first time in months. What happened to the market value of salvage materials?! It's not even worth spending the time to salvage anymore...
It's a shame for new players who want to fight and not fiddle around with inventing or playing the market to make cash. It used to be a nice sideline for the budding combat pilot to make some cash, but it seems theres just none left in it anymore.

Are you running missions in Gallente/Caldari space where most people do?
Can you really be suprised that the salavage gained from the types of wrecks that most people salvage has gone down in value.
Try salavaging from Angles/Blood Raider/Sansha's wrecks and you will probably find it more worthwhile.

As a large scale rig producer I'd say the value of salvage has in general increased in the last year. I buy over 1 billion in salvage every week and I'm paying more now for my salvage than I ever was. Some salvage items have decreased in value sure, but those are mostly the ones that are used to produce rigs nobody buys. The salvage items that are used to produce rigs everybody wants have definitely increased in value. A few examples:
Alloyed Trit Bar - 1 year ago 270k, now 460k Armour Plates - 1 year ago 25k, now 150k Burned Logic Circuits - 1 year ago 80k, now 85k
BTW the market value of salvage, like most items in EVE, is determined by YOU not by CCP. If you think salvage is too cheap buy it and increase the price or shop around a bit more, the value can vary greatly from region to region.

For the past month or so I've been switching between L4 Navy missions and L3 Caldari Busnies Trib. missions to raise faction. I find that I get better salvage from the L3 17+ agent missions then I do from the L4 6-12 level agents I run. That being said I get better loot and bounty from the L4 missions. It seems a trade off. Personally I like Rogue Drone, Sansha, and Serpentis missions. I always seem to make out better with them.

The salvage from an Angel level 4 Blockade can range from 10-20 million. I know because, as an environmentalist, I find myself having to clean out a lot of other people's missions.

Proof that CCP needs to flag dead space wrecks to whoever killed them for at least 60 minutes. Suicide Kessies!

Whereas on the other hand, Melted Capacitor Consoles used to be the daddy at around 400-500k, but now are around half that. I'm guessing it's because everyone and his dog wanted CCCs for mission ships when rigs were first produced; and as time goes by, most of that market is now saturated (missions ships don't tend to pop too often) so demand is much lower. Whereas rigs like Polycarbons and Trimarks are arguably the two most popular rigs for PvP - and they will need to be replaced a lot.
Irongut hit the nail on the head: Quote: The salvage items that are used to produce rigs everybody wants have definitely increased in value.
It's like everything else on the market, supply and demand largely set the price. If every wreck gets salvaged, salvage prices come down. If people keep losing rigged ships (or wanted to buy more of them), then ceteris paribus rig prices go up, and salvage demand and prices go up.
(This is probably why CCP want salvaging to be free for all, since rigs are already much more expensive than they intended them to be, and the more wrecks that sit in space unsalvaged, the higher that price is going to get. If a wreck is salvageable by anyone, it increases the general supply to the market.)

Not true. CCP can change rig stats, if they want to, so that all rigs become desirable. -- Salpad |

If you're willing to suicide me, why do you need CCP to flag the wrecks? The system ain't broke, no need to fix it.
