So I have been moving to progressively lower sec space as my mission running career continues, and now I was thinking of making a big jump:
I was considering going to Venal to work for the Guristas, but it's a long way to travel without some info first.
Can anyone answer any of these questions:
1) Is Venal (especially the central / left hand side around 6NJ8-V) very populous? 2) Do I need to be in a corp to be able to travel safely there (and if so which ones are good candidates)? 3) What's the gank factor like? I mean are you ganked daily? 4) Is there stuff for sale there? Should I plan on needing to make my own ammo / drones etc before I go?
Thanks for enlightening a non-empire newbie :)

It looks like Venal is not under anyones firm control.

There are several systems that you can live in Venal - however, being a neut will not help you. Some back end systems (to the right) like Z3U-GI or underneath in AA-YRK are empty. I've surveyed the entire region with another character. Needless to say, you need access to a station and if you're red to eVoke or Phallanx you are not going to get provisions. To Rorqual jump in fuel through Tribute and Vale is impossible unless you pay Hydra or Morsus Mihi and they don't like strangers.
Quote: 2) Do I need to be in a corp to be able to travel safely there (and if so which ones are good candidates)?
Yes - Vae Victus, Phallax Alliance, or Hydra.
Quote: 3) What's the gank factor like? I mean are you ganked daily?
The ones I gave you are very quiet, it's about establishing a logistics route and making sure you can live there.. which you can't as a neut - you will get popped, and your towers (if you plan on dropping any) will get clobbered fast.

If you asking this question you don't belong there. There are NO friendly NPC station in any part of Eve. They are run by corps. So, unless you plan to get pwned daily, don't go.

Venal is Guristas space and as such will never be under a player alliance Sov. Last time I was up there various MM & TRI gangs were roaming about fighting.

Since when did NPC controlled stations become player controlled stations?

you can dock and buy.. but if you're in anything other than a covert ops.. you will die... and die fast when you un-dock.
Don't take my word for it.. go to Venal and die.

I have no doubt that he will die out there.
However, camping a station is not the same a running a station.

I'm a little confused by this. There are Guristas NPC station there...with said Guristas agents I want to run missions for. I intend to live in said NPC stations, not attempt to put up a station of my own.
Some of said NPC stations have factories too, so stuff like ammo I could easily produce from the refined T1 junk I will get running missions. Its only T2 stuff like ship fittings and drones I need to worry about buying, and of those, drones are the only one that I would (hopefully) need that regular a supply of.

I'm aware that there will be some random fatality rate, but it's risk vs reward. If I can run missions there and only get popped once a week or so, its probably worth it. If I would likely get popped twice a day without a gang to guard my back then obviously its probably not worth the effort.

6NJ8-V has clone, refining and manufacturing facilities. You will need to visit that region to find out how long the wait is for queing jobs at that station.
As for the frequency of death, I would expect it to be fairly high. Bubbles allow for very effective camps. Given that system has one of only two cloning facilities in the region, I would not be suprised if it was camped most of the time.

Edited by: Emperor D''Hoffryn on 07/04/2008 22:52:07 The station systems in Venal are a quigmire. When Im in Venal I avoid them for anything other than a fight.
*edit*
and yes, anyone can dock there. All of Venal is NPC space, and it its unclaimable. It stops bigger powers from really doing much in Venal, as you cannot claim it and build it up. You also cannot do super cap building programs there, as you need sov to do so. If you time your runs properly, use scouts, with practice you can live there in the backwater systems without too much problem. The main path to empire goes through tribute, which is MM space.
If you run missions in the station systems people will scan you down in your mission.
Originally by: Meridius Dex I could actually fit a Thorax WITH LASERS and get better DPS, better speed, better tank and - wait for it - better cap stability

Unless things changed, be prepared to pay ten times the norm for any kit you need up there too. Cheapest shuttle i got was 250k once.

Currently, 6NJ8-V and it's sister system 6NJ8-V is kind of 'controlled' (as far as NPC space can be controlled) by an alliance called 'Souls of Vengeance'. There's always between 10 and 20 of them 'active' in these systems.
It might be possible to live there for a while and you might be able to run some level 1 and level 2 missions (I'm ve been doing that for 2 days now), but it's very hard, very time consuming, and not rewarding at all. To survive, you need to watch your back constantly, cloak like hell, safespot the whole system, and even with all these precautions, you need all the luck in the world to succesfully manoeuvre your PvE-fit stealth bomber out of that bubbled gate camp that they set up once in a while.
It's just hell, actually.

Venal is currently under residence of Phalanx Alliance (and Insurgency post-Branch evacuation). Both are NBSI (not blue shoot it) as far as I'm aware.

only one good idea is to join any of SoV corporations to be able to run missions in 6nj area :) but wait, you cant be just mission runner, pvp is mandatory :)
but, you can try :) if you will start doing lvl 3 or lvl 4 mission - you will get popped often, ppl up here dont like neutrals in big valuable ships
