Their is no way to save the password.
But you could do the following. open notepad and put your password in that then save it to your desktop. Then when you want to loginto eve open the notepad and copy the password and paste it into the password area of the log in.

Hi Jenny,
There is currently no way to save passwords as this could lead to numerous security risks. At this time the only thing I could suggest is to copy your password on a notepad file and simply copy/paste the password into your client.
So that your threads will no longer go off topic I will do my best to correct any spelling errors that may arise in future.
Please mail us at [email protected] if we can help you in any otherway

Yup. I'm not sure what the great security risk is anyway. There's always keylogger threats in the Eve-news. Is it really that much more likely that someone will gain access to your config file than infect your computer with a keylogger posing as an official newsletter? I'm seriously asking, because I have no idea... ================

Im no expert but i think ccp is just trying to reduce the workload on their gm¦s. Sure its your risk but its the gm¦s that need to fix this when stuff goes down.

The client used to be able to save passwords. One of my buddies edited a bit in prefs.ini (at least, I think it was that one) and there would be an option to save password on login...

No, Jenny is being hugely funny pretending she's Dyslexic without really knowing what it involves.
TBH I think it's Jenny #1 just having a laugh with the forums. Doubt the char has ever changed hands.

i never figured out how is it a risk?
passwords used to be saveable and encrypted, sure someone 'might' manage to un-encrypt it but as it is now everytime you type in your password, if your system is compromised there is a chance of a key logger recording it unencrypted, then they fetch username from pref file... so its less secure now since they don't need to un-encrypt in

CCP are doing the right thing leaving it as it is, I don't want my account at risk from other people using the computers I use.
And I'm sure other people don't want their little brother/sister etc... buying 1 billion shuttles off the market, or taking your freighter filled with all your worldly goods into lowsec and saying hi to everyone in local and you'be bought them a gift.

Originally by: Nyphur Hold on, so CCP removed the client's ability to store the password in an encrypted form in a config file in favour of officially endorsing a strategy where players copy-paste it from a plain text file? And more to the point, the reason for that change was to increase security?
He would have suggested writing it on a sticky note and putting it under your keyboard, but then everyone at CCP would know where Navigator puts his passwords. :)

this is a good reason NOT to save the password. but as already mentioned, if optional those of us who live alone or lock our computers etc, could still benefit.
but TBH i have never heard of an MMO that "saves" your login password, ever.
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
