I got a mail concerning something in eve (was asked not to disclose it, hence also posting with alt since it could be real), i was wondering who should i contact in CCP to find out whether or not it is real?
Thanks!

Is this an e-mail or EVE Mail? Was it regarding forum moderation or being banned or a petition you files?
If they're asking for your username or password or wanting you to put that information in at a site that isn't www.eve-online.com I would contact CCP immediately - it's probably a phishing attempt. ---------------- Tarminic - 34 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.8 (Updated 4/7) |

Also be bloody careful if it tells you to go to any links in the mail. A few phishing attempts have contained links to a page that looks identical to the Eve O login screen (you can guess what happened to people who were careless enough to enter their login details there).

Reply to the email with loads of really abusive and sexually perverse pictures. When the authorities arrive to arrest you, ask who sent them.

If it involves a response to a petition you sent, it has a high probability of being legit. Or, if it is a response to some other previous forms of official communication.
If it involves some special offer "only you and a select few" received... most probably fake.

i'm not sure if i can do that.. as if they go where they supposedly goes it would give it away.
i went the manual route through to the site it supposedly links to, only difference is that the link in the mail has .asp at the end while it doesn't show in my browsers address bar...should that make a difference?

Response to a question you asked, or survey you took part in, or stuff like that, that was certainly an official CCP endeavour.

the link shows http://www.eve-online.com/xxxxxxxxxx , but from what i understand there are ways of concealing to where a link leads....thats what i'm concerned about, not the sites that it supposedly leads to but the small chance of it being concealed and leading somwhere else...

Your best bet here is to contact CCP, or go through our normal ways of interacting with CCP. Like using this site. Legit emails usually are used to notify you of something, but they do not provide "convenient" links to provide feedback. Especially regarding sensitive information.
When in doubt, don't click it :) If it's really that serious, they will notify you some other way. With phishing, spam, scams, etc. email is just not that reliable for communication. _______________________________________________

If you are part of their official program and have a non disclosure agreement with them, you already would know it , wouldn't you? Otherwise I dont know if they are playing 'This is top secret' game with people , but dont you think its best petitioning it using this website including the mail you received and get a real answer from CCP? Nobody can really help you here without knowing true nature of it. Petition system is their official method of communication, use official communication channels since faking an email address is so easy today.

Hover your mouse over the link, and look in the bottom of your browser.
If the link is anything but eve-online.com, it's probably a phishing scam.

That rules out the legit survey that has been going around recently, although, to be fair that shouldn't have been outsourced anyway... -----

If you type out the URL that you want to go to, you can be sure that you end up at the right place. So just type out the url into your browser if the URL looks legit.
The way that alot of those phising mails will send you to the wrong site is they will put the correct URL as the text of the message, then put a fake url as the hyperlink, like this: http://www.eve-online.com/
If you simply type/copy the url into your browser, it won't matter where their hyperlink goes.

while were on the paranoid train anyway, that above way isnt 100% secure if your browser/system is compromised example host entry 123.45.6.7 www.eve-online.com
would redirect "legit" www.eve-online.com to a ip 123.45.6.7 (lets say some evil webserver) :P enjoy
