some friends and I will be putting together a gang that consists of myself in a blasteranis, a wolf, and 2 very low SP players in a griffin and an arbitrator. What kind of prey can we realistically expect to take down while roaming?

Where do you plan to roam (0.0 or low sec?)
Switch your blasteranis to a railranis - do not let your gang interceptor get into web range. That's your point man - speed tank and keep point - rails will still do some healthy damage. ECM in a griffin won't be enough to keep your ranis free from harm in web range.
I'm not too familiar with wolfs but why not a Rupture (read: threads on why AF suck vs T1 cruisers). I say this because if you already have an arbitrator you will gang warp at cruiser speeds anyways. The ranis will get the quick lock and point - Rupture with a web will do more damage.
Can your low SP mate in the Griffin go to a Blackbird? Not a huge deal, just a way to add more jam cycles/range/small amount of dps.
Arby may be lacking without decent drone skills.
That said, you can take on anything BS on down depending on what the target is doing. A ratting Raven neuted by your arby, would go down. Most pve/ratting ships would be toasted by this gang.
Really it depends on your target. Solo targets ratting you'll get active tanked ships. A drake will shrug you off. Really depends on yoru target. Passive buffer tanked BC and BS will tank you fine. Tech 1 cruisers will get smoked. Give more details on what you're trying to do. __________________________________________________ Sup brosef! The wolf pilot has Minnie cruisers to 4 and the ability to use t2 medium AC.
I am able to fly gallente interceptors, assault frigs, and can fully t2 fit a gank/tank brutix. i can also fly all Amarr t1 ships up to BC but can't use their t2 guns yet.
The arby pilot is approx. 2 months old and has drones 5 and scout drone operation 4, amarr cruiser to 3. He started out as a Gallente pilot, trained his learning skills up and got all the way up to Gallente BCs before he decided he'd rather fly Amarr ships.
Griffin pilot is 10 days old, created his char as an industrialist/miner and only has a smidge of combat related skills.
We just wanna look for stuff to gank in low sec and get the 10 day old guy into some pvp so he doesn't finish his trial period with the attitude of "this game sucks and is boring" so hell start paying for it.

My main reason behind this and doing a lot of what I do because I like this game and hate WoW. Thus, I have been trying to convince my old WoW guildmates who i still keep in touch with to give the EVE 14 day free trial period a try. But if I can't take them into winnable PvP encounters during their 14 day trial period, then it probably won't go beyond that.
So I've been trying to put together small gangs of low SP friends who are on trial accounts backed by myself and 2 other 5m+ SP players and introduce them to the PvP this game has to offer. Haven't met with much success yet though because things like Huginns and other t2 cruisers have managed to wipe out our entire gangs single handedly, but we've never brought EWAR or t2 ships in the past either. Only t1 frigs and cruisers.

Wolf > Rupture Taranis > Thorax
Make sure both are gank fitted with a plate and preferably with ecm drones __________________________________ Garmonation - Rupture fun video

I would look for soft targets that aren't well tanked. Haulers, t1 frigs/cruisers, etc. Ewar makes a huge difference.
Much of what you'll find in 0.0 is either heavy tanks that log, or nanos that log. Nano'd Huginns & rapiers are very common as they're the best options to counter other nanos.
You might run from a tanked hac but against a nano cruiser your gang has very little chance. Go for heavy ewar, tracking disruptors, and shoot the drones first and you might get away.
Avoid the fast stuff, go for the slower targets and you might get some kills. Stay out of web range, and be careful with battleships as they can neut.

i strongly disagree, if that thorax has t2 blasters then its a dead ranis, same goes for rupture (well, t2 ac's then)

Four cruisers can easily kill a battleship. And cost about the same as your ranis and wolf. (Since t2 frigates cost WAAAAY more then they should.) Miz Stelth Bomerz iz the ****nit.

OP, go with what people are suggesting then - move from tech 2 frigates to tech 1 cruisers (wolf to rupture, most of your low sec prey won't be fast enough to warrant a taranis over a thorax). The Arbitrator pilot is fine - will add a nice cap killing bonus for your side and some drones (alternatively you could also have him do some minor logistics for your guys with logistics drones). A Griffen would be an effective pvp ship for a 10 day old caldari player in a gang. |

Things that you can take out (assuming you bump the two t2 frigs to cruisers).
Solo pilots (some). If you go after a solo ship, especially an active tanking one, you will probably kill them. That being said - i would avoid battleships, unless they have players in them that are less than about 4 months old. I would also avoid drakes and HAC's - drakes because they are usually stupidtanked, well beyond the ability of that gang to kill, and HAC's because many are either nano'ed out or will just clean your clocks with their damage. On a similar note - avoid command ships.
Small gangs. Your gang could with decent leadership take on a gang of t1 frigs/cruisers, provided that it is a gang of less than about 5 or so. You can also run down larger gangs and kill some of them, though only do that in the expectation that you will die.
Things you need to watch out for:
High skillpoint players. I have personally killed a gang similar to yours in about 30 seconds in t2 fit brutix, and it only took about 30 seconds. However, I killed that gang because they made the mistake of diving in and trying to take me on in my range. With proper leadership, that gang might have been able to defeat me, had i been solo. As it was, even if they stayed at range all that would have happened would be them surviving long enough for the rest of my gang to warp in.
Nano's. A nano will ruin your day - he can stay out of your range, move faster than you, and basically engage each of you on his own. Tactics for surviving him depend upon which nano it is that is attacking you, but that is for a different topic.
Bait. Ooooh - nice little drake you have there. Engage and voila - a hostile gang warps in on top of you and you loose your gang. Drakes and other BC's are often bait, though not necessarily always. Just be careful about attacking that jucy looking target because he may have friends.
Gate guns. Do not engage under gate guns. Period, end of story. You will die, and it will be humiliating. Just don't do it.
Otherwise, just go out, have fun, and don't die too often. And have patience - you will not get targets just popping up waiting to be killed.
Hope this helps
