Ok, so I'm trying a bit of this researching melarky to get myself some datacores, great. My problem is this - I have a mechanical engineering agent giving me 25.5 points per day - they are level 3, quality 1. I then have a minmatar starship engineering agent, again, level 3 but -18 quality, giving me 54, and a -13, again, level 3, giving me 58 points per day. What's going on? both skills research skills are level 2 (and yes I'm going to take them higher) so how come the -18 and -13 are giving me so much more rp/day?

RP/Day formula:
(Agent_Lvl + Skill_Lvl)^2 * (1 + (Effective_Quality / 100)) * Field_Multiplier
Effective Quality formula:
Base_Quality + (5 * Negotiations_Lvl) + (1 if Connections = 3 or 4, 2 if Connections = 5)
So to answer your question, your discrepancy comes from the fact that (Racial) Starship Engineering is a field with a x3 multiplier. Mind you, the cost of datacores for a field is also multiplied by the field multiplier, so in essence each of those starship engineering agents is only getting you a datacore every 3 days while the ME agent is getting you a datacore every 2 days. ---

Edited by: Sensor Echo on 08/04/2008 19:45:03 ok, I hadn't twigged that they ask for different amount of rp's to provide a datacore

where do you get this field multiplier number from?
edit:
Thanks btw!

Good question from what I recall you can see it on the agent info after you ave chosen a research field with a multiplier.
Another factor that can give odd RP out is if you have increased your skill or your agent quality and you haven't still visited him. Even if the RP are given out at the right rate, the amount of RP/day under research will display the old value till you visit the agent (but, to repeat it, the RP are given out at the correct, increased rate, it is only a display bug).

I was about to call foul on the negotiations affecting the rate, but, when I went "show info" on the agent, it magically pinged up in the journal!

Also keep in mind this no longer has any real effect, you get more RP/day but they ask for more RP for the datacore, it's left over from the T2 lottery where focusing on fewer BPOs might have given you a higher chance at getting one of them. (so lots of people focused on the isk fountains that were ships).

About 3 years ago I trained negotiation one level, noticed it didn't seem to do anything, then didn't train it on all my other chars and have spent a good 3 odd years collecting RP without it. What a fun bug that is/was.

Social just boost the standing increase when you finish a mission. No modification on effective standing :)
