WTF Does it do? - see quote below
Originally by: Gremrod Edited by: Gremrod on 07/02/2008 18:27:50 It allows you to import the market log files you can export in game.
Once you have the data imported you can find seller to buyer trade routes. Also lets you see the movement of items giving you a good look at where to place your manufactured items for sale and get the best price. You can see where to buy from seller (at low price) and move to a different location to put back in the market for a good profit.
Allows you to compare region data in a single window or in seprate windows. The UI mimics the Market tree and the seller and buyer grids. The difference is it allows you to see how many of the item was place on the market and if they ahve sold any at that price they placed them at.
You need to import the data for the items and regions over a period of a 4 days at least to get a look at the trending this application can expose. The reason for this is the fact that when anyone changes/modifies their order it resets the issued date and duration. During import EVEMarket leaves the issued date alone for all existing imported data. This way you can see some type of trending.
My corp has been using it and we ahve done pretty well with it. Example by reviewing the data for Hammerhead I drones I saw I could buy them from one region for 21K a piece and could move them to a region and put them back on the market for 80K. I knew this because I saw in another regions data someone was selling them at 100K a piece and I could see they were moving since I could see the issued date and the QTY. Entered and the QTY. left. I sold them for that price until I was under cut. I am still selling them for 64K a piece. Still triple what I bought them at.
Now with that said I have bought stuff that sells but they are not moving as fast as I thought they would, but hey its a market what can you do. :)

By the looks of it, there is a method in order to retrieve data from the websevice.
The name of the methods in the code doesn't exactly make good sense. But when i hit up the WSDL(The webservice), it seemed like it was a 2 ways communcation.

At the current time it doesn't use the webservice. I am still develping it and even not sure if it will be hosted at the site that is in the config file. If it made any connections your firewall software would alert you. And if you do not have firewall, then get one.
Yes, we plan to have a central daatabase for upload and download of data. This would mean a wide sharing of data from all regions. Of course it will only have data that ppl upload.
This is a totally different way to look at the data then like lets say eve-central.com and even the built in tools that eve has for you in the market window.
This doesn't just let you see a region wide volume movement but it will let you look at a single order and see how much that person has made.
I have an update coming and will have it up on eve-files.com soon. Not sure when we will have the two-way webservice put in place. This can take a lot of bandwidth that I do not have and neither does the person that owns the site that is referenced in the config file.

Supports only XP SP2 and Vista. Also only US and UK English regional settings for your OS. Also requires the MS .NET 3.5 framework.
I have heard some people having trouble with the 2.0 framework still being used even though they do have the 3.5 version installed. This is an issue with the two frameworks install and falls on MS as far as I can see.

If you do not have it already then get this one.
Full download of release 0.0.1.0 download Here
Still no use of a central shared database yet. Hope to have it soon. I can have the development of it done pretty quick. The only thing that holds me back on the central database for sharing is the bandwidth this could cause if a lot of people start to use it. But I will get a version ready for me and my corp to use and see how it goes.

Why does it only work on certain regional settings? Why make something only some of us can try to use? Make a product that I can use and I will happily test it and give you constructive feedback.

Edited by: Gremrod on 19/04/2008 00:50:06 Here is a nice example of how EVEMarket ( ISK Medic ) can call a prediction of an order placed in the market but the full day has not passed yet.
Screenshot You will notice in the picture a small seller's details screen to the left. You will see that the seller has sold a total of 33 of 95 placed up for sale.
Now EVEMarket shows total untis sold is 46.63 a day. and the days total net is 107 million. Well since a full day has not passed since the seller place the items in the market he really has only made a total of 75mill for the past 0.71 days. The item was placed in the market in the beginning of 2008-4-18.
So if the movement doesn't stop do to someone under cutting him or jsut a slow in a need for the item, in this case is the skill book "Medium Artillery Specialization". The seller could make 107 mill by the days end.
You will see in the same picture a seller gridline highlighted in blue. This is the seller I have analyzed and he is selling them for 2,298,998.83 a piece.
Now I found in the next region over "Metropolis" Someone has them up for about 3.9 mil but I choose not to place the book I bought there because that person had only sold 3 in the last 22 days only making him 11.7 mil.
I think I like the faster movement right now, Since I am starting small with this alt and need a quick turn over in my investment. So I have a better chance to sell my item quick by under cutting the guy that looks like he may sell 46 units in a single day.
He won't care if I under cut him since I am only putting up one and he has 62 left.

Well the prediction in the above post was spot on and the skill book sold in 3 hours. Made 50% profit so I turned 1 mil into 2 mil. This was just a simple example of one way you can use EVEMarket ( ISK MEDIC )!

It does look like a promising tool... great work so far
But in my case, it seems to have a problem with the decimal point in the price Some lines in the buyers or sellers list dont use decimal points, and others do
which results in prices being represented up to 100 or 1000 times higher or lower then they are in the game.
Probably this has to do with regional settings (english vista with belgian regional settings) Just thought i'd let you know

Yes, this is an issue and you are correct it is do to the your regional setting son your computer. Right now it expects US/UK English. I have to change it to support multi lang regions.
This would of course lead to File/Prefs having a setting for you to select your region and lang.

I just did a build to be region netural. Who would like to test it? Forkrim, would you? Just wondering how to get it to you besides putting it up on eve-files.com. I set my system to location Belgium and left my lang setting to English and it appears to format correctly. But I would like someone else to try it.

The issue is with the formatting of the data. EVEMarket is using English format for numbers, dates, etc.
I think the easy way to fix this for now is to do a override of the default system language and tell EVEMarket to format everything in US English format.
Number: 1,999,000.00 Date: Month/Day/Year
These are really the only format that ISK MEDIC needs to worry about so it your data is at least correctly displayed when pulled from the database it imports the market logs into.

I havent yet been able to determine what exactly makes it go astray for some detail lines.

Is that the belgium format for numbers?
At this point I think I am just going to override the UI culture and have all numbers format in English along with dates.
Let me play a little more I think I can get the default culture fromyour system and applie that to the UI and everything should display correctly.
For now if you set your default lang to US English and your Location to United States it should work fine for you. but this is a hassle....
give me some time and I will get this all worked out and solid!

Like this, very nice. Suggestions and Commentary (Here is one (1) grain of salt)
- Folder Settings - A pain in the arse to always have to keep changing to the directory where the log files are kept. Additionally, even if someone is sharing logs between corpmates it is just easier to have a configurable "log" location, per user, that they can move or copy logs to at their discretion.
- View Pane (Possible Setting) - I notice that when you double click on an item it brings you up a view pane. Double click a different item and it brings up an additional view pane. This might be great for comparing some items one from another (and perhaps there is also another use - still new to this app) but quickly enough you could have a dozen view panes open one on top of another. If you have the screens maximized you might not even notice.
Basically I was wondering, as a suggestion, if you could set it to operate somewhat similar to how eve "optionally" handles show info panes. I.e. Use current unless "toggle key" is pressed. Ironically I have other ideas but I'm going to keep my mouth shut. I've got the skill to leverage what this program does, at it's core, into various personal ideas/projects. So on that alone I love this app. The core functionality is very much one of those "need to have" things that I can mark off my list. PS: I also just realized one other thing. If you make the "server" capability functional I think you should consider it as a two part open source project. I think most would prefer to have their own servers running instead of having one centralized server under someone else's control/purview. Or, if you choose not to go with a community released server version you might think about adding in an import/export feature so people can share data direct from each other. Just a thought as I'm having no trouble extracting data myself.
To Shar -verb: 1 - To say what you mean. 2 - To say what it means. 3 - To say something mean. |

Ok, so you would like to have a setting where you keep your files? Right now ISK MEDIC opens the dialog box to the documents folder which is where the EVE folder lives. You want it to open right to the marketlogs folder when importing?

Yes, I have thought about the multi windows you could have open. I am a big user of the Windows menu that list all open windows within a program. But your correct these can go unseen by most.

Yes, we have thought about this a lot and we have kicked around a few ideas. One was to do a release of the web service and the app so corps could host their own data. The other of course was a centralized database. Could have many problems. One being some ppl will not want to share their data. Very good point. Or, if you choose not to go with a community released server version you might think about adding in an import/export feature so people can share data direct from each other. Just a thought as I'm having no trouble extracting data myself.
I agree at this point I have not problems exporting the data myself. But a way to share data with corp. mates would be nice. One idea would be to allow ppl to set up their own peer-to-peer network between friends and corp members that use the tool.
Just an idea....
Thanks for the input I will get these ideas boxed out in a plan and see what I can come up with.

Sadly, i've still got the regional settings problem.
It still screws up the numerical format for some lines. (wouldnt be that big a problem if it did the same for all lines, but it doesnt ;) )
Is it possible that you didnt update the version number in the programme? under about, it still says version 0.0.1.0.0.0.1.0 ? or is the latest version link not correct perhaps?

btw : setting the number format to US does make it work perfectly.. so i guess mine doesnt listen to my windows settings (Vista) but that's not really that big of a hassel anyways
I do have a feature request
What's the point in having a huge item tree on the left filled with stuff that doesnt have data? Instead of using a colour that shows what you have data on... why not only show the items that you have data on? or atleast the option wether to show everything, or only data holding items?

What are your region settings?
That version number is not being used yet by me really. I will get that all inline soon so the version in the application is the build numbers I go by.

Thanks.

Try getting the version from the full version link 0013 in this thread. Wipe out your old database with a clean one from the full version download. And give it a try again. |

I was looking and something I noticed... filtering would be helpful. Being able to quickly filter columns would be very helpful. (Or if it is in there I don't see it). Also when I un-check a region it is not excluded from the represented data. Not sure if this is an intended feature or not so... again healthy grains of salt.

You can sort the columns by clicking on the column heade name. By filtering columns, can you explain a little more, do you mean to want the ability to exclude columns from the data view?
Also, the unchecking of regions only removes that region at the time you click to see the specific items data, Once the window is open and you uncheck the region it doesn refresh the data window. but I think that would be a good idea.
I am going to compile the list of requests so far and get started on these right away. |

Not exclude columns but have the ability to exclude data itself that do not meet with user defined criteria. I.e. Rows where qty >= 1000, Rows where price <= 25000, etc., etc. Of course the idea is that the filtering would be one on top of the other. (I.e. kind of like Excel's autofilter). |

Yes, when you said filer the columns not data I had to ask. Yes, I think this is something very well needed. It will make the request list!

Okay, last thing for the day I promise!
This could be considered a feature addition but it is one of them things that seems like a no brainer. Add the system table (from the export) to the database and have system security rating added as a column to the view panes. (Include it in filtering too.)
Oh, and keep your app focused on what it does now. Improve the functionality of it, the look of it, etc., etc.. But resist the temptation to start bundling other metagame functions to it. In my experience this complicates matters (introducing bugs) and can cause the application to appear to be doing too much at once.
Right now it is very very good and very very slick.
And I've yet to actually use it for trading! |

yes, the security column is a good idea. I had thought about putting in a feature for you to enter your current location and a column would tell you how many jumps each station is from your current location. but I agree I need to focus on what it does it make it better. Plus you can click the station cell and right click and copy the station name into eve to link.
Oh, you have not used it yet for any trades? :) |

A little bug report. When i try to import my 985 marketlogs it seems the string list of files is cut of at some artificial length. I get an error saying that the path doesn't exist then showing the correct path and half a filename.
Oh and i vote for the open dialog opening at the default marketlogs path.
Good luck with your app. I don't really understand what i would use it for. but thats probably why i only trade on a very small scale, and pvp more

I ran into the same thing... I figured it was a limitation in windows o/s on how many files you can try to open at one time. I usually just do 150 or so at a time.

Ok, I will look into what could be causing this import problem with so many files at one time. I would say for now try to import your files in small amounts until I get it fixed.
Thanks for the report!

Eraggan, that is pretty much why I made this tool. It can be used by hardcore traders or pvpers like yourself!
pvpers sometimes need to make some isk in ways outside of missions and ganking people. Pirates even have strings of bad luck and need to make some isk and if you have some to invest in the market then ISK MEDIC can help you do just that...

I must admit, i haven't really given it much time yet. So my remark on not understanding it, was based on the fact, that i haven't really seen what the app can do . My bad. Btw, i like the fact that you can see all items, but i feel there should also be an option to filter the item not related to a marketlog, i.e. the green ones.
Oh and on the bug.. It seems that i can import around 500-600 logs at a time. Heh...while i was writing that, the app just disappeared (crashed silently) while importing . If you like i can zip up my logs for you, and send it if you can provide an email. |

I am adding features currently. One is a check box just about the Mark item tree that will only allow tree nodes that have data import to expand. This way you know exactly what market categories you have imported data under.
Also working on the request to filter the data view.
No, no need to send the log files. I can dump a bunch myself to trace the error.
Thanks!

Well that is good you figured it out. But the only thing is I have it set to use your default regional system settings. I will try to figure out why it crashed on import. I will look at the regional settings for the import thread.

Ok, I have the new build ready. This is a full version now at build 1.0.0.15
I have added in the following features:
1.) Ability to filter market tree so only node/categories with imported data will be expandable 2.) Market details data can now be filtered by quantity and price. (for price the numeric value must be a whole number with not formatting: Example 8,000.00 should be enter as 8000) 3.) Changed the Market details UI, added in a moveable divider between the seller and buyer datagrids. 4.) Import logs dialog window now defaults to the Eve\Logs\Marketlogs folder.
Full version download: 1.0.0.15
Patch Download: 1.0.0.15

Looking at adding in an export feature. This export will be in XML format and can then be sent to a corp buddy to import on their end etc.
Does this seem useful? This would be used until I get the portiable web service piece built for those who want to host their own corp shared market data.
