Alright, a couple of quick points:
* My actions might reflect back on my Corporation, but they are not neccesarily the same actions and views that my Corp-mates share.
* I'm not going to tell you where I "hunt", it's bloody obvious anyway.
With that out of the way, I'll get to the main point.
In "my" system, and the surrounding areas (Although I'll occasionaly stray out to the Amarr border territories), anyone with a negative rating towards the Blood Raiders is considered a target; whether that rating is -0.1 or -10.0, I'll still attack them.
If they're in a Frigate, I'll attack them myself, if they're in a Cruiser I'll call in some back-up, if they're in a Battleship....well, haven't been able to get enough people together yet. ;_;
I'll destroy the pod if I get a chance (It removes them from the system, makes them a little more cautious about a possible next time and has a pretty strong effect on my character's...um..."state), and extend this to any player.
Simply put; do you think any of this justifies the killing of newbies?
I don't use suicide tactics with my Kestrel (I'm skipping Cruise missiles entirely, anyway), and very rarely, if ever, smack-talk so I consider myself a fairly "decent" person otherwise.
Thoughts?

If they've ****ed off the Faction my Enclave belongs to, they've got no business in Blood Raider space. Simple.
Would you allow a known killer of your allies to walk freely in your territory?

There are many other ways to get negative status with a faction other than to kill them. Example: You do some agent missions with a faction that they don't like (not neccesarily an enemy). Instant negative.
Second of all... message me in-game with what system you're in and I'm sure I'll have quite a fight for you

I never said killing was the only way to annoy people.
Anyway, the system I'm in is a hardly a secret. I don't stray far from my Headquarters....although I run like fark if my sields go "pop!".
Overall, I enjoy a good fight and the "job" of protecting an area of space (Even if the Faction system is a little faulty; "wanted" NPCs will always attack, even if you're their employers best friend. ), and if this means I have to gank the occasional newbie ship that wanders in for a look....well, so be it.

The fact you have a high standing with BR is probably the exact reason you weren't shot at by them.

Jessica I have a very good understanding of roleplay but I do not approve of imposing roleplay on people who are not interested. And what is the bit about shooting noobs? You are a noob yourself and your associates are not exactly the best combat pilots in eve either so please dont post your nonsensical threats on forums. If you wanna kill just kill no need for a detailed thread on how u are going to do it.

And the fact this is an OOC thread complete blows that moronic theory out of the water.

DarkenTwo: What's your point? They go into 0.3 space *which is owned by a Pirate Corporation* and you expect no action to be taken? Would you still be complaining about my actions if I was part of an Alliance killing newbies in 0.0 space?
Likewise, my own and my Corporation members' PVP skill has no bearing on this, so quietly toddle off and find someone else to slander in that way.
Finally, in what way am I "noob"? Elaborate if you're going to sling around accusations like that.

1.) When you go blind!....although I suppose that won't stop some people.
2.) Yup, for the time being anyway....I'm building up to use a Caracal (That won't be for about a month though, due to Caldari Frigate 5 taking 18 days to train.....yay a Miner history. ), and going to see how well I get on with Torpedoes.
3.) I *was* going to take part in an attack on an Aarmageddon the other day, but the damn server was going to go down in about ten minutes.

Well first off this is an OOC forums...
Second...she may not be a very good role player, but atleast she tries!
Its like saying...all PIE are griefers because they declarewars on minmatar corporation SOLLY because they are minmatar..
This person is shooting people with bad standings against her faction...its asmuch rp as any minamatr-amarr, caldari-gallente war there ever was...
Maybe having the word 'kill' and the word 'newbie' in the same phrase makes everyone a bit jumpy?
The threadposter did not say she SOLLY kills newbs, although maybe the exclamation was put on this (dunno why), it was simply stated that anyone with bad standing towards the blood raider faction gets terminated...regardless of who this is, but baring in mind that the threadposter is not suicidel...
On the topic of 'fighting with equal ods', dont even get me started. There are a number of people in this game who will fight with equal ods and who will fight with bad ods. Ironically its those exact people who mostly are the target of flames stating the oposite or who get called 'griefers' flat out. Not to mention the acusing is mostly done by exactly those who will never show up to a fair fight . So lets just leave that out of this...

No, sadly.
That's one of my chief complaints with the game: Faction ratings just don't have an effecy beyond agents.
That, and it annoys me when I see self-proclaimed Pirate Corporations with low standings towards NPC pirates yet high standings towards the non-pirate NPC corps.

Jessica sry if I somehow offended you. My point is that firstly terms like noobie do not belong to the realm of roleplay. Secondly I see no purpose why you declare all noobs KOS in "your territory" cos by ur roleplaying standards all players who have bad standings with BR should be KOS. The point of this thread still eludes me and no I see no reason why I should toddle off as per ur wishes. This whole post has been one long cry for attention from you and nothing more the sooner you admit it the sooner we can end this ridiculous thread.

1.) Erm, I don't use terms like "newbie" when Roleplaying. What the hell made you think that?
2.) As I explained; I don't discriminate between that Rookie ship and the huge lumbering Armageddon. The age of the player is irrelvant; my character treats all pilots, with negative Blood Raider standing, as a potential threat to the Covenant's resources (Which my Corp doesn't mine, I hasten to add) and ship movements.
3.) The point of this Thread was to get peoples' opinions on whether or not newbie killing can be justified. If you couldn't see that, why bother posting in the first place?
Calling me a "noob" and my Corpmates bad PvPers isn't something I tolerate, thank you very much.
Anyway, where the hell were you when 11101011 (Or whatever the hell his name is) posted his thread about killing the Velator pilot, mmm?

Well said...
And i think for once the newbie right crusaders should back off and realize this isn't about ganking nubs but simply about not making any discriminations, wether they be positive or negative ;)
Asking for an opinion on the justification of killing a fresh newb in a rookie ship is a good enough reason to start a thread for me personally... Although personally i would not care to receive the approval of anyone for my actions.
In you case however, from my point of view, you're doing it from an RP perspective and according to your own saying, have the stamina to RP in depth enough not to mine the recourses you protect. So its all fair and square in my book...RP IS still a part of RPG and if someone with negative standing to the blood raiders enter i think its justyfied you kill them, regardless if they are nubs or not.
Its not because its unexpected that its griefing. And its not senceless ganking either...i dotn see a problem here personally.

Actually, just to add a bit of fuel to the fire Engraver Logan is a very strong Roleplayer in-game and I've very rarely seen her OOC. However this forum is an OOC forum and I'm sure if she did RP there would probably be about 50 people in here saying take it to the summit, Damned if you do, damned if you don't For those of you who did not get it from Jessica's post we RP a new Enclave of the Greater Blood Raider Covenant.
And now to Clarify a bit. While I myself do not fire on new players, I'd rather RP a bit with them and tell them to run along, I don't have much of a problem with Engraver Logan doing this for several reasons:
1. Engraver Logan is only flying a frigate and does not use cruise missles, so in my opinion even a newb has a chance to at least flee, if not actually fight back. 2. I feel their should be some back water spots in the Eve universe that are at least a little dangerous and from an IC perspective this should be one of them.
One final note, this corp has existed for about 3 months now in largely the same form and will hopefully continue on for as long as I play Eve. I feel this is a very entertaining premise and I've had a great deal of fun Rping and interacting with our members and allies, all of whom are quality people in my opinion.

After reading the first post, I'm somewhat relieved that we're talking about a semi newbie attacking newbies in frigs.
If you can't round up enough people to take down a BS, and you need friends to take down a cruiser, you're not worrisome tbh.

On a personal level killing a complete noob i.e. in a noob ship and less than 7 days no don't. These people have to learn and shooting their ship is going to be a too harsh lesson that can put people off.
On a roleplaying level, why don't you contact them first and then either tell them to leave within a timeframe or accept the consequences, or try to recruit them.
Those are my thoughts..

1.) Well, if they're in a rookie ship still, and part of a "newbie" Corp, then I'll E-mail them explaining why I did what I did, in addition to giving them a small ISK boost to help recover any loss.
It's a one time deal, though. So the second time they stray in they won't get anything.
2.) My character's been through too much to consider approaching her target and speaking with them before opening fire; but she does lay off if the "Mistress" (Firehaven up there. ^) tells her to.
Similarily, if they have negative standing towards BR then Jess considers them "too far gone" for recruitment, really.

(Followed by the sound of someone lockng you, and then the squish of icky pod-death)
...That's something. That I am somewhat tempted to go there and show my .02$ on the Blood Raiders (filthy habitual, anemic cultist-wannabe's!) is another matter, but if I understand correctly, and the place is below 0.5, honestly, a rookie player (I am averse to using the term n00b - reminds me too much of CounterStrike) should well know the risk of being there, and an experienced player should simlpy just know better, really.
Also, what many tend to forget - true, it's not fun for a rookie to get wasted in lawless space, but what's the most likely to get helped back no their feet - a 150K gift to a rookie, or a 100 mil donation to someone who though they'd just take their brand new (and possibly uninsured) battleship for a spin?
Anyway...Aimed at Ms Logan, I have but one thing to say...
...Le tarte!
Cheers :)

Edited by: GoGo Yubari on 20/04/2004 14:30:44 Lemme just try to hijack this thread and steer it away from the mud-slinging.
One of the harder things in Eve is to succesfully combine being a pirate and still being interested in actual role-playing. The reality of the combat system isn't one where you can take time to speak to your opponent, except in certain lucky occasions which aren't too common. Too many times they just get away if you try that. That said, I respect any player doing their best to combine these play styles.
When you're in 0.0, or in this case <0.4 and pirate controlled space, expect trouble. Whether from NPC pirates, "w3 R dah r0xx0r"-type pirates or player pirates of other varieties.
The fact is, I consider myself to be role-playing in the game. However, because of the combat system, I've made the OOC decision of playing ICly a rather remorseless and trigger-happy killer, which means I often shoot first and ask questions later. That's because I want two things out of this game: PvP and RP. When I can, I combine them, but this is just too rare an event to happen everyday. So, usually I'm doing one or the other, which also now happens to mean shooting at anything that comes my way.

To those who wish to roleplay as pirates I say good luck, I try to RP a justice obsessed vigilante. I hope our paths meet so I can, as the amarr say, 'enlighten' you. ;)

Just a bit of advice, that might solve a few problems with both RP and the occasional valator or what have you that drifts into your space-
Take up a -slightly- more tolerant stance toward negative ratings with Blood Raider. A -0.1 isn't enough to get NPC's to start unloading on you in both pirate and Empire space, though you might still want to be a little less 'tolerant' to give you more targets.
A 'grace period' of up to -0.20 would allow those that might become enemies otherwise to 'repent', ie, catch an agent and repair their Blood Raider faction, as well as prevent too many really inexperienced players fall under your guns.
Few people flying velators or reapers are going to rack up that negative a standing with them that fast, and anyone that gets well below that should be considered well past their initial learning period.
As to the RP, I believe its a perfect reason and applaud you on picking that angle. Just wish my own BR faction wasn't so freaking low, or I'd come cruise your space openly just to interact.
Hell, might still tempt fate and explore a bit - Blood Raider space has always kinda intrigued me, and from what I remember from my early days, it was full of POE's.

Meh, if you're in < .5 space, those same velators are open game to anyone, soooo... you NOT shooting at them just so they can get ganked 5 mins later by some 1337 ub3r k!dd!3 is of dubious value. At least if they get whacked by you they may think combat has some style and point to it .
If you're doing this in any .5+ systems you are a jerk
that disclaimer out of the way, i think "allying" yourself with an NPC faction is a fairly unique twist on RP seen thus far and sounds interesting. As someone mentioned above, i would IMNSHO be a little more tolerant with the newest of the new, simply because it's in all of our interests to do so and serves little purpose to spank the confused. Frex i wouldn't really feel like i accomplished much by thwacking someone who's "in the University of Caille for less than a day." .
However, just because you attack someone doesn't mean you have to f1 f2 f3 f4 f5 f6 f7 f8 and wait for them to die... someone that new may not realize you simply damaged their armor and let them escape, they will just think they were attacked and narrowly escaped, especially if you play it up a bit . This way you don't break character, OR some poor clueless guy's brain. You can even help educate them as to the dangers of lowsec space this way and remain in character
You are in a maze of twisty little asteroids, all alike. |

Originally by: Jessica Logan In "my" system, and the surrounding areas (Although I'll occasionaly stray out to the Amarr border territories), anyone with a negative rating towards the Blood Raiders is considered a target; whether that rating is -0.1 or -10.0, I'll still attack them.
Perfectly fine and, for you, an in-character response.
Quote: If they're in a Frigate, I'll attack them myself, if they're in a Cruiser I'll call in some back-up, if they're in a Battleship....well, haven't been able to get enough people together yet. ;_;
Don't see any particular problems with any of that either.
Quote: I'll destroy the pod if I get a chance (It removes them from the system, makes them a little more cautious about a possible next time and has a pretty strong effect on my character's...um..."state), and extend this to any player.
Not to mention the fact that you get a nice corpse to drain dry of blood. Yarr! Nasty Blood Raiders!!
Quote: Simply put; do you think any of this justifies the killing of newbies?
Use some common sense and your own judgement, but don't let any eventual 'smacktasic' reply to an eventual attempt at communication stretch your patience. Pop them if they do, explain why, absorb eventual flames, and keep up the good RP with a clean conciense.
Quote: I don't use suicide tactics with my Kestrel (I'm skipping Cruise missiles entirely, anyway), and very rarely, if ever, smack-talk so I consider myself a fairly "decent" person otherwise.
Thoughts?
We all smack talk a little now and then. Well, everyone except me, caus' God made me perfect! ;) ----------------------------------------------
