the carebears, whilst in my opinion seem to have a larger voice on the forums (probably cos they have more time to whine on forums than actually having fun on the game because they have not discovered the immersiveness of the game due to being focussed on the whole kill this get x ammount of money and LP '2d' version of eve) the vast majority of the game are pseudo roleplaying in eve. doing their thing, protecting their interests. ...

I think it's slightly easier to alt-tab out of Eve when you're mining than when you're involved in a bit of pew-pew.
That's why carebears have a larger voice on the forums, they are so bored drilling holes into asteroids or working out how much profit they will make on a run of paradise cruise missiles that they need the forums to stay sane.
Just my opinion.

All in all, many goods points by the OP.
Thank you. I was beginning to despair. :) Seriously though, I appreciate being understood.

So, here's the interesting part. I've created a new character since my resubscription, and she's a straight-up miner all the way. :)
However, I spent a lot of time and attention making sure that I joined a corp with goals (one of which is piracy) and without fear of low-sec or null. Once I've got the cash, and the corp has it's stuff together, then I'll bring in "Q" here, and get to some abusing of some other poor mining bastard. :)
I really do appreciate the (good-natured) responses I've gotten. Having just gotten back into things, and participating for the first time in forums, it's good to know that some of the things I think are valid and shared by others.

Must admit I never read the OPs post in full. Gratz you've experience the fun and excitment of pvp and converted.
Seriously lets leave the carebear bashing alone, the last game (WoW, I had fun) with a bodycount I killed 112k characters for fun, probably didnt better in the past but without a count who cares.
But this is an ffa server were you lose items on death, without a steady income you'll never achieve anything... how do you think RA or BoB manage to build multiple titans ... by ratting or salvaging nub ganks.

No never compare WoW pvp to EvE. I'm never going to let you guys somehow tell me that game is good for anything PvP related. It opened your eyes to online gaming and took pvp to a all time low. Just don't talk about WoW xp and everything will be all good.

Woah... try to read more than a few words within brackets.
Another problem I have with EvE players, WoW bashing its a fantastic game but its a theme park not a sandbox... but after a while you get bored of the same rides.
I never said EvE should become WoW, its a fun game with mindless pvp but I wouldnt be posting here if I didnt prefer EvE (actually fk EvE, I like Sci-fi and ffa)... Inveniam viam aut faciam. |

Just stating throwing out you killed 112K in WoW means nothing.

Exactly my point.
You need to train reading to level 1. if you got any more dumber, we would have to place you in the shade and water you twice a day.
re-read my post and think about what you have said - as you have just reiterated what i wrote.

Sigh, do you have anything to actually say... a point to be made or are to just another one liner forum warrior?
OP: PvP is fantastic unless you have nobody to fight, like the pirates crying about low-sec being empty. Or you dont have the resources to continue fighting in both cases you need the carebears to kill or supply you.
I've played on brutal ffa servers in the past and in one case when the game became too pvp focused the population dropped to below 100 active players and nobody won, the company just turned the server off (Name the that game/server for bonus points). Inveniam viam aut faciam. |

Eve Pvp is like old school UO. *Skill based system *when you die all your stuff is on your body/ship *Towns(gates/stations) had guards(Concord) that were beatable til nerf
And UO was out before Wow/EQ/Eve where even thought of

Honest when my friends got into UO I went into the service and missed it. Used to play muds pk online and play supported UO 6 I think on hell mode on boards. After this I got into mordred and nimue for ****z and giggles. I really wish people would give pvp a chance and not knock it because its the future of bored mmorg players.

WoW's the new benchmark due to its success, ok its a carebear thremepark in which you have no effect on the game and cant killed the annoying twerp next to you because he's in the same kingdom, but its mindless fun in short bursts. Imagine EvE with 10+ million players.... carnage. :)

I know your pain m8, wasnt in the service myself but ended up in a job which involved alot of travel so missed most of UO/EQ years. Most ppl love pvp once they've been given a chance to experience it cleanly e.g. no smacktalk or griefing ... nothing will put off a player more from pvping again then being called names after being butchered 10 vs 1 for the X time in a row.
Ok funny story of carebears going pvp; Ive played mmos for years and my niece used to love watching. When the game I was playing died, friends and enemies (good lads) joined the same server which made it the most "nasty" WoW pvp realm.
Next thing I know my niece joins the same server to play barbie online and thousands of alliance have to die because one kills her. Then the rest of the nieces and nephews join the same server, followed shortly by their grandparents (my mum and dad!). Now they're an arena team with 2k+ rating not the best but far from the worst.
Smacktalk isnt possible in WoW and griefing isnt possible in BGs/Arenas so its a fantastic introduction to PvP,hopefully a few (millions) will come to EvE when they're bored.
Fake edit: Imagine playing on the same server as your mummy!
