If this were a debate about a fact, then yes, the burden of proof would rest upon those that say they are broken, however this is not a debate about fact. Yes, there must be a way to intercept traffic, that however does not require that all traffic be forced to a little doorway. There are other options.

Yes, it is my problem, I am however not alone. Lots of people do not like them. And does it fit the dev vision about how space should work, really? Once upon a time Eve did not have gates, it fit the dev vision too then, by your logic. They added gates to force people into the same place, to force combat - that is what the devs wanted, conflict and ships going boom. There are ways to force conflict and ships going boom with out gates. Gates are a means to an end, there are other means.

For low sec this COULD be possible, even though I don't like it.
For 0.0 it completely breaks it. When somebody claims sov, it's their system. When they put up a gatecamp to protect their system, and with your proposal, they can completely bypass that. In low sec, it gives the carebear the major advantage. But in 0.0 it completely gives the raiding pvp'er the advantage.

Gatecamps are the devil. I get the impression that many of the 0.0 and 'Yarr!' folks support them, for defensive and offensive purposes respectively, but... for god's sake. They're a ridiculous artificial limit on travel. The simple way to fix this 'problem' would be to have multiple gates, instead of 1 gate rens to jita (sic) have 5 gates rens to jita. And an increase in routes into 0.0 would be nice :). Then i could pop carebear miners without concord jumping on me as the greedy buggers will be mining in 0.0 for the good stuff as they'll have a chance of getting in and out of lowsec without being raped. |

No gates means no gate guns, no gate guns means solo piracy can come back. Depending on the mechanincs, no gates could mean more piracy. What matters in the debate about getting rid of gates is the mechanics that replace gates.

Its extremely tuff to fly light in low sec. Flying light is what newer players should be doing. I have no clue how they'd go about fixing it but as a person that just come to this game in the last year I see it as a problem.
