Totally agree to the insurance thing. If it was such a good and realistic concept, why is it done by NPCs? Because it isn't good nor realistic. No insurance company would be so stupid and insure any ship on the terms that are currently implemented. Because you cannot make money with it. And why can't you make any money with it? Because it's cheaper to blow up an insured ship, buy a new one and insure it, than to renew an expired insurance contract. Because you can blow up your ships on purpose and still receive the payout. Because most ships not even survive the three months of the insurance contract.
If I would run an insurance business, I would not pay anything to people that
- selfdestruct their ship - die to Concord - die in any gatecamp at the empire border - die from sentry fire etc.
The price of the insurance would depend on the frequency of losses (taken from killboards). - Success=Achievements/Expectations

into new ships. ... snip ...
JUGGARNAUTS & SOVEREIGNTY REVISTED First off, the recent sovereignty changes are little too extreme. Take morsus mihi, an alliance that has turtled itself into Tribute. They have 5 titans, and a huge cap fleet, and a giant jump bridge network. Even if you manage to get a jump on one of their systems with say 200 BSs, and had another 200BSs on standby out of system (because lets face it, these nodes can only realistically handly 200ish people and even then its lagged to all hell) .. you are confronted with 2 choices.. knock out the cyno jammer or the jump bridges. Chances are, you're first fleet is going to get DD, or double DD to oblivion. Well then you bring in your other 200 ships into the lag fest, hopeful to down a titan still hanging around the carnage. Oh but look, theres now 10 MoMs and 20 carriers on grid. Only half your BS pilots load grid before getting wiped out by the shredder pos and fighter pwnage. The rest die soon after. So, 40 or so MM just pwned your 400 guys. A little ridiculous. Yes, the home turf guys should get the advantage in battle, but the scale really needs to be lowered. This is why the role of system sieging needs to be turned over to a mini dread, a ship that needs no cyno, a ship that can mix it up with caps and non caps, a ship that can withstand multiple titan DDs, and that ship is the JUGGARNAUT. Now instead of a laggy 200man BS fleet, you can roll in with a 50man JUGGARNAUT fleet and have some chance of at least clearing the way for your cap fleet. And the currently impossible become possible. The major point is, again, if you want to hold space you should have to defend it with more than your handful of super weapons that your pile of t2 bpo's and legion of carebears has afforded you. AND the experience should be fun and accessible to all.
Acutally, I don't think you need a new type of ship to deal with this kind of thing. Imagine a new kind of jammer called a "covert-ops cyno-jammer".
1 It would be some kind of module that can only be fitted to a black-ops ship. 2 It can only be activated when the ship is uncloaked and stationary 3 It uses some kind of fuel to limit operating time to say.... an hour or so without being supplied. 4 It has a limited range, for example 14 au or so. 5 It can not be activated in systems where either your alliance or an NPC corp has sovereignty.
The first point is to finally give a worth-while roll to black-ops ships
The second is to make it possible to find the cyno-jammer and take it down. Meaning that the team who put the jammer up will have to vigourously defend it.
The third point is to make the logistics of holding down a system more complex and to give the defenders a secondary mode of defense.
The fourth point is to ensure that you will need multiple black-ops ships working together to blanket a system. This creates yet another weakness to defend against and makes the job of getting system wide coverage more complex. It also gives the defender another option, which is to look for a "hole" in the blanket where their ships can be cyno'd in.
The last point is to avoid these ships being used to nerf POS warfare.
so now your fleet of 200 battleships, with a full complement of black-ops ships, logistical support and whatever has a good chance of making a score even against an alliance with a butt load of cap ships and titan support.
All from the addition of a single module.

Some very good points there... apart from the insurance one. Insurance is a necessary thing and should not be altered at all. Dont forget not everyone in eve has 100s of millions and can grind out level ivs solo. You dont want any deterrents to PvP but an insurance nerf would be a massive one. Besides you still lose almost the same price of the ship when you die in mods and re-buying insurance most of the time so it only ever accounts for part of the price back anyway.
Personally id love to see firing arcs put in the game as this would add a whole new dimension and hopefully introduce some new tactics other than orbit at x.

Edited by: Ellaine TashMurkon on 28/04/2008 15:15:22 What if cyno jammers were just double edged swords like warp disruption bubbles in small scale?
Your enemies cannot cyno-jump capitals in, but You cannot cyno jump in nor out, even with bridge network. You can still move conventional (sub-capital) fleets with bridge network.
So, you can make one unbeatable system with cynojammer, titans and capital fleet, but you cannot make your whole regions like that, simply because you'd have to offline cynojammer to get defensive fleet in. Or out - to help other systems. CCP alreday stated they don't want cynojammers working 23/7 - moving own capital fleets is a good reason to offline them sometimes.\
This does not render cynojammers useless nor capital systems defenseless. It however requires more planning, strategy and risk taking to defend vast areas with a single capital fleet.

cyno jamming ships.. Dont know about that.
Personally i think CCP needs to stop throwing random crap into the game hoping that it will somehow make things better. Instead they just need to refine whats already in the game. Now i know ive already suggested a Juggarnaut class of ship, but the problem of system sieging could also be solved by a HP increase to BSs. However that doesnt really solve the numbers problem, and the fact that eve really cant handle the large scale system sieges.
My point being, focus on refining the game instead of bloating it.
CRTL-Q
Something really needs to be done about loggers. Might as well reprogram BACON to just hit ctrl-q for you. So many times i enter a system with a couple of carebears in it, and by the time I hit scan they have logged out. Again where is the risk v reward? These guys just sit around making billions with hardly anything to lose. Its really at the point where eve might as well have a 'pvp flag' button. Which is sad, since the lack of such a thing is what made this world a great one. The only place you can get a fight in eve is from those who are also looking for a fight (blob v blob.. bleh), and those who live in 0.0 who just want to carebear can easily avoid combat. Im pretty sick of this WoWification of EvE!! I dont want pvp zones, or soverignty objective sites, or factional warfare. I want 0.0 to be 0.0 again!
So what needs to be done? At the very least, when you log out without agro your ship stays in game for 2 minutes after e-warp. That gives you at least some chance to scan someone out and kill them if you have a cov ops with you.
What if Sal controlled the universe?
No ewarp with aggression.
The amount of time your ships stays in game after you log is proportional to the size of the ship. Frig 1m, Carrier 15m. If there is aggression, that time is added to the base log out time.
NPC agro timer, 5 min.
Far more rats that scram. Every other spawn at least.

Are you all really THAT happy with eve?
I really cant understand why more people arent as ****ed off and disgusted at the current state of eve as i am.
It really comes down to this, risk v reward doesnt exist in eve anymore.
Why? You can make too much isk risk free in empire.
0.0 is where you used to have to go to make real isk in eve. Losses meant something, kills meant something.
Now, 0.0 is just a carebear vacation zone for those whove made a ton of isk in empire and now want to toss it around. Or dig themselves into some alliance in 0.0 that holds space, and like a tic they sit there and no one can do a damn thing about it.
Where the hell did all the risk v reward go?!
Without it, we might as well go play WoW!
....
Oh but Sal, FACTION WARFARE! .. you can take your faction warfare and shove it up your..
PvP zones suck. I dont want to play capture the flag in eve. In the end itll just result in camp fests.. and camping is boring...
Oh but Sal, soon we will be able to walk in STATIONS! omfg, just stfu. Yes, because people should spend more time in stations, and not in space f'n doing something.
CCP.. just start up another server running eve 1.0 on it.. it was better than this BS..

Insurance allows people to PvP more often and allows new players to get into the game without risking 'everything'.

And now we get giant blob wars that eve servers cant even handle..
Why? Because battleships come a dime a dozen.

Edited by: Krathos Morpheus on 14/05/2008 23:18:26 Insurance also limits the ship's price. It limits the min isk they cost. If you remove it, EVE's economy will fail. You have no global picture of EVE you are here only to kill other players. You have the rights to do so. You can and you should search for and kill other players if that is the game you want to play.
But you have no rights to kill other player's fun making your playstile the only one possible. Furthermore, new players need help to get into the game.
I agree however that you shouldn't get the insurance if you destroy your ship. It is your choice to do so and you shouldn't get rewards for it.
No capital ship insurance, maybe? But definitly not on lesser ships. That will limit the number of capitals around and i find it fair enough for them. This way it will be a real pain to get one destroyed and it will be worth to sacrifice other ships to destroy them.
