He he im sorta new to Eve but I love it. I could not help see them bragging about having 8k, 9k etc.. people on at once but what does it matter if those people are just staring at a pretty space wallpaper because its so lagged out you cannot do anything
Not bashing just pointing out a fact that should be included when they brag about 10k mark being reach at some point. heh

Xevin brings up a good point. Ya we're getting close to 10K....but the system lags like crazy. Plus, it also brings up a new point....how is CCP going to start a new server, assuming that the growth will require one soon????? I am VERY interested in this answer...hopefully a GM will read this and reply. Hey Xevin, do I know you?

Don't hold your breath man waiting for a gm reply. They don't give a damn about lag all they care about is getting more people and more money and their not got spend more money on the server which desperately need some serious upgrades oh no.

Had to post once I saw the title of this, every Sunday operations have to be all but suspended, which is a bummer as this is when most corp members/targets are actually active.

Read the devblog on the Highway systems, note the attempt to solve the lag and the comment about more hardware.

i think CCP underestimated how fast EVE would get to 10k after all the promotions they started, heck, even I'm surprised (in a good way ........way back last year, I the avg was about 6-7k on weekends.
hopefully it will get sorted out.... ______________________________________________ Hellmar > sorry for the attitude, playing a n00b character through the current state just left me a bit bitter dev chat: Mar 18, 2004

dont think they will open a new server and i dont think they should either...there is so much space out there its not funny...everyone is crammed around empire and the highway systems no wonder u get all the lag.
And b4 u say but all the 0.0 space is taken up and they blow ppl up that arnt part of the alliance well think again...CA the biggest alliance has what 100-150 ppl on max at peak time?? There are 9k ppl in game...even if 5% of the ppl wanted to settle in Curse region (thats 450 ppl btw ) and they all just brought frigats and not one battleship CA would still be fighting just to stay alive.

Well as far as I now, the big server update was meant to have been able to handly this amount of player. ROFL. Yer right, is get laggy at 8k let alone 10k. Sorry tosay but the upgrade was a waste of time.

Way I understand it, they underestimated the effect of the highways, and made too few. The new highway system should sort it out, clearing the systems taking up whole nodes, and reducing lag.

Good going CCP for addressing the problem and biting the bullet with more hardware.

Interesting fact is that according to the eve-i server status display we topped 9603 players before the servers blew up on sunday. It is interesting that CCP has not yet mentioned this with large fanfares on the front page...
On a positive note, Helmar's dev blog mentions getting new hardware, so let's hope we can get past 10.000 players on sunday AND perhaps do it without re-boots... -- "I am an expert in not caring. Lag only happens because we're all in empire space. As far as most people are concerned its not worth the effort moving out to 0.0.

They won't be adding a new "server" as far as I can tell. They will simply be upgrading the existing hardware - adding more nodes as the game population warrants.
I remember reading back in the day that they wanted to eventually support 100,000 people online concurrently at the same time in the same game world. That would be awesome.

I suggest we start bulldozing english counties until we have the floorspace required to fit all the hardware needed for that goal

I wonder how the DB server will do with that many concurrent connections.
I don't usually play that much on Sundays for the past few months. though it does run much better after when the population drops 3k right off the bat after the reboot.

The issue of lag has been addressed in this link and CCP does plan on adding hardware in the near future to reduce lag even further.

EVE has exploded with new users only very recently...
i believe ALOT of these new users are former E&B players who are trying their hand at EVE. Alot of these guys however will leave again once their trials are up OR once they subscribed for a month and decided the game isnt for them...
I think the online numbers will slightly drop again after a while.
I suppose upgrading a server takes a bit of plannign and coordinating so it would seem that CCP just did not expect players to suddenly arrive so fast.
Originally by: cashman It's time for Eris to get a clue. CCP should make a statement about this.
It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.

Lag is next to non-existent when you are out in 0.0 space. Only large fleet battles pose a problem there.

Lag isn't bad unless you are in one of the highway systems at that time, and maybe in places where you usually don't get lag you may get a little.
The hardware upgrade hopefully should help out :)

Actually I am truely impressed with what eve has accomplished thus far.
See I remember the last company and online game to try such a bold move as to have 1 server for a large amount of folks. As you can see I am no longer playing that piece of )*&^@ called Anarchy Online.
If you new anything you would know they are in a game breaking area unlike any other.
So if you don't like it go play AO with the last 100 people playing it.

The problem for me are rather developers stating stuff like "with the current hardware we would be able to run 14k users" in the devblog. It raises wrong expectations. -- Stories: #1 --
