Oh wait, she had both but she divad it up and lost both.
NW's music would have always been pretty generic and forgettable rock opera, if it wasn't for their lead singerĘs unique voice. I'm not much of a fan of NW, however, objectively speaking, their new lead sounds pretty generic and is nowhere near Tarja Turunen's singing ability.
The success of their latest album is, IMO, in no way a measure of their new quality, unless, off course, you feel that sales numbers and talent is one and the same. ...

No, they lost her she didn't lose them.
They sacked her.
Edit: reference
It's nothing new and probably the worst mistake they ever made. So like I said they lost her and not the other way around. They also "sacked" their fans evidently.
I honestly don't get what they were thinking. Sacking the lead singer of a female-fronted rock band was never going to end well, esp. when they have such a distinctive voice. Could you imagine Evanescence without Amy Lee?
the whole thing was over the males in the band having an emo jealousy fit that they wern't getting enough attention anyway.
Totally agree with you, when she walked on stage everyone went wild and I don't think the males liked that one bit, but the lead singer is pretty much always envied for the adoration they recieve from the fans. If it wasn't for Tarja I don't think Nightwish would have ever achieved what they achieved. -------------

True, but the success of dark passion play has shown without a doubt they no longer need her, and probably haven't for a long time. If the kind of stuff in that open letter was true, I'd have fired her ass too. Nothing worse than a diva in a relatively minor band

I think it's hilarious how all the Tarja fanboys are raging about her being kicked.
Her new album is, well, ****. She's just trying to cash on Nightwish's fame. I expected more, tbfh, not just a straight by-the-numbers mediocre Nightwish ripoff. It's painfully obvious that while she is a awesome singer, she's a ****ty artist, with the creative talent of a, well, something with no creative talent.

Well, their music might be generic rock opera as you say. But IMO their new bass player/vocalist Marco Hietala added more to NW than lead singer change. He brought in some more harder elements. Even my musical taste is far heavier than NW or similar they are still better than any of this techno/rap junk spewing from every channel and horn. -----------------------------------------------------

I agree. I like the music on their last album much better than their previous stuff, I just don't like hearing their new female lead straining to try and hide her limited vocal ability (this is truly painful to watch during their live performances).
However, with all these changes and additions, NW is now a different band. ...

The new singer made some of Nightwish's songs listenable for me. Dunno why, just can't stand the old one's voice. I guess I just don't like operatic warbling, uncultured as I am |

Nope , neither party will go anywhere close to their former glory. It doesn't take much to wreck a perfectly good team. Can't blame nightwish for trying to survive , and while Tarja obviously didn't forget how to sing I don't expect her to show much creativity.
It was a brief moment of brilliance in history. Like the privateers. |
