Module Proposal:
VX-91 'Swansong' Warp Core Overload Unit I
Fitting: Low Slot, ? core, ? cpu Required Skills: Science ?, Energy Pulse Weapons ?, Engineering ?
Attributes: ShipdeathExplosion: +??% damage (type?) ShipdeathExplosionRadius: +??%
Feel free to fill in the blanks, but essentially this device greatly amplifies the dentonation of an exploding ship, both range and damage, possibly damagetype also. It's a smartbomb that only goes off when you're killed, but is considerably more powerful.
Careful balancing would need to apply, obviously - how much damage/what range? Does it auto-pod you? How much does it cost? What fitting reqs does it need? And so on, but the sheer paranoia it would add to space combat would be entertaining in itself. :)

If there were no Alt characters this would be a nice idea. But there are, so it isn't ;-)

Well, they probably wouldn't be available in Ibis-Grade. :)

<cue Kamikaze char invasion>
It would be interesting though, to have the intentional-self-destruct inflict serious damage on ships unfortunate enough to be in the splash radius. Of course, this would have to damage both friendly and enemy ships, as well as the damage being based on the mass of the ship, and the distance between the victims and the explosion...

Make it take say a month to train the skill to use it. This would stop players starting a new char, buying skill and item and then 'BANG' a quick kamikarzi pilot.
Also I would suggest that the char is killed too. It is logical. How would a pod not take damage too? This also stops reusable kamikarzi pilots.
A quick puzzling question: Is a suicide bomber that lives through the experience a failure ?

Damage could depend on cpu and power core.
Being a kamikaze with a frigate would therefore not do much damage, but with a cruiser or a battleship or why not a indy as well (lets leave titans out of this. :P hehe) the amount of damage would be nice. I also think that by using this you would of course blow up your pod and not just the ship. I think we all know the amount of time to learn the different ship skills. |
