Best single change I've seen from a patch. They must be listening to the economist. :) Here's hoping that all NPC-seeded items that can also be built by players will eventually be removed. Vive le laissez faire!

Bah - they could have at least had npc orders sell them one at a time. I'll hate being in a lowsec hole and 4 jumps from the nearest shuttle, and paying 0.0 prices for low-sec prices is going to absolutely blow.

Great way to remove the symptom of the problem without removing the problem. And cause another symptom at the same time.
It had already been discussed that lowsec/0.0 should have more abundant trit as to overall reduce the price of it, as long as it stayed well below the capped price, the cap was a non-issue. Now the cap is gone but the issue of abundance is not (this is supposedly the most abundant and 'cheap' mineral out there) the price can rise without them fixing the problem, if they eventually do fix the problem it will cause a crash they might have avoided by fixing it before removing the cap.

It was often easier to buy the needed amount of tritanium in the form of shuttles instead of hauling it. Yeah it's a bit more expencive than sitting on buy orders for few weeks but it did get you what you needed without wasting time hauling it.
Ravens give also pretty good prices if you refine them and build capitals instead, btw. Or well, used to few months ago.

Don't get yur point. Where you see this shortage of veldspater asteroids in low sec?
The shortage is in people willing to mine them as there are more rewarding and less dangerous things to do than mine veld in low sec/0.0, but that is another kind of argument.

Pardon me, but WTF? Have you ever checked the belts in low sec and 0.0 or in missions for that matter? Plenty of trit. The problem isn't the mineral distribution. Make it worth while and we might just mine it. But every miner out there does a isk/h calculation on the minerals he mines vs risk in the area he mines and for the most part goes for what gives him the most bang for his buck. So you have to do one of two things: lower the risk or raise the reward.
In the meanwhile: go trit go.

Ok, removing the price cap on trit = good.
Removing shuttles = bad. As if players are going to stock every single station in every single solar system in EVE with shuttles.
Why couldn't they have just made shuttles refine for, I dunno, construction blocks or something?

Yeah, I mean, why don't NPC's sell Raven's too... cause like... there is no way players could supply them throughout the universe!
The people around here tend to love that this is a player driven market, so you may not have much with your views here.

If Tritanium goes up doesn't that mean that, once again, the price of high-end minerals is going to go down?
Veld is already more profitable to mine than *deep breath* Scordite, Pyroxeres, Plagioclase, Omber, Kernite, Jaspet, Hemorphite, Hedbergite, and Spodumain. All this when mining even Bistot or Mercoxit in a maxed out Hulk won't net you more ISK/hr than you can make in an average Raven running missions.
It's almost as if CCP were trying to improve mining for all the empire macro's while messing it up for everyone else.
I'm all for removing the cap on tritanium, but it's yet another kick to the balls to anyone who still mines (I gave up a long time ago). It's about time CCP looked into the impact their changes have had since the last time they examined the balance within the mining profession. |

This... is going to be a fantastic opportunity to see if shuttles can create stable networks of supply chains. - Assuming we get a distributive goods model, there could be a fantastic opportunity for someone to relocate goods from remote stations to hubs. |

Or just make them unrefinable like rookie ships, or for all that matter, just replace the rookie ships with shuttles, that would be easier to program I guess. So you get a shuttle when docking in a pod. I just don't see shuttles being as available as they were and I certainly won't go even 1 jump out of my way to go get a shuttle. I'll just go in my pod, happy podflying everyone. |

Kernite and Plagioclase were more profitable. Scordite was (not is) on par. I don't know about the low sec ores, but I'm not seeing your point with the high sec ones. |

Not at all. The value of the ore will rise and fall based on market pressures. Citing their current value was an exercise in futility, as it really proves nothing. You'd need a long-term graph to determine whether or not one or another ore is in need of assistance. ------------------------------------- NECB |

Edited by: Chssmius on 19/04/2008 01:22:25 He is probably referencing url=http://eve.grismar.net/ore/. All you need is to input the current market prices for each mineral and you will get the isk/m^3(you mine at a rate of m^3/cycle with cycle/time for those noobs among us).
Mining veldspare has been more profitable than about half of the other ores ever since I have been playing eve(about 6 or 7 months now I think). It has occasionally lost out to Plagoclause and rarely to Scordite as the mineral market flucuates....
The point is, all of the high-sec, low-sec, and some of the zero-sec ores are locked in around 110(and some much lower) isk/m^3, and among the front runners is Veldspare. Far and away the most common, lowest risk ore.
There is something unbalanced about a system exhibiting these characteristics.
I don't think it is really in mining itself but in reprocessing and loot. In my experience, running level 4 missions. I get more minerals from reprocessing most of the loot per hour than I ever did mining(not to mention the isk and the occasional item worth keeping)...with the exception of tritium.
I think this is the real problem.

A graph showing ore values this soon after such a significant change would be far more pointless.
That said the values of ore have been terribly out of whack since the introduction of capitals and later the drone regions. The first pushed low-end minerals up the second pushed mid-range minerals down, and now we have trit being pushed up yet again. These market pressures are certainly not part of EVE's "free" market, they are changes made by CCP and they haven't addressed the impact such changes have on miners who aren't in empire running macros.
As for "phasing out" ores, that's akin to killing the dog to get rid of the fleas. Theres nothing wrong with the ores themselves they were fine before certain changes were made to other areas were made. If I were to change anything to do with mining I'd alter the loot tables and put minerals back in the hands of the mining profession and change the mineral requirements on capitals to require more mid-range and less low-end minerals. As for the mess caused by the drone regions... I'm still of the opinion that was one of the worst ideas CCP ever had but it's too late to go back on it now.
Removing the shuttle cap on trit isn't what has caused the "oddness" of ore prices, but it has uncapped how far this oddness can spiral out of control. They should have checked things were balanced before taking the stabilizers off.
