Getting stuck in an asteroid belt, is that part of the game?

MAXIMO 2ND	Posted - 2004.04.21 16:21:00 - [1] Okay I'm just curious because I lost my ship like that. I warp into a belt and 3 rats were there. About 10km away. so I decide to warp away because my Omen was equipted with 4 miner2's and no weapons to defend myself. I just thought I'd warp out if it got hot. But when I initiate the warp to the station in that sector instead of just warping away my ship just sits there in warp limbo. I'm stuck at 35/ms not even moving at all and with the screen saying warping to such and such. WTF? If I'm warping why does'nt it go already and no stay stationery in one spot letting the rats take free shots at me. I got blown up because I was stuck at 35/ms but not actually moving anywhere. That is totaly bs and it's ****ing me off. Is this a problem with the game I should've known about. Does this happen to other people? Can I pettion to get my ship back?
Harcole	Posted - 2004.04.21 16:27:00 - [2] If you get stuck against something you can't get enough speed to warp, you should hit ctrl+[space] to cancel warp manuall move your ship somewhere better and then warp again... Its neither a glitch nor a helpful, you just learn not to let it happen again... I lost my Omen that way

Rizmordan Hillgotlieb	Posted - 2004.04.21 21:15:00 - [6] Watch for the object gravity wells - at least that's what i call them - all "collidable objects" in eve have some sort of "interaction" field that slows you down. You need a bit of space for you ship to align and get to warp entry speed. With more experience you'll be able to judge if you'll get stuck if you try to warp from your current position. But oddly once you see your engines die out then reflare, that sudeen alignment lurch you know you are in warp and will not collide with anything Posting for Numbnutz

You see you think you blew up cause you where stuck, problem that's not what killed you, "stop my ship" and a course away from the roid to get you into clear space so you could have warped out would have saved you, scouting a belt from a bit further out would have saved you, proper defenses for mining in the system you where in ( that includes being able to deal with spawns cause those will come ) would have saved you. Hey Alowguy, Do you see me blaming anyone about my loss? If you actually read my post you'd notice I was upset to loose my ship by being stuck and asking if it's a known problem or if it happens to anyone else. I did not accuse anyone for it so learn how to read before you try to make a point.
Andrue	Posted - 2004.04.22 14:58:00 - [20] I had the same experience. I was hunting a Sansha's Beast and two others. They got a bit close so I decided to try and warp away. Like you I found myself 'kicking water' at 35m/s (I was also in an Omen). I tried swiching off my weapons in case their was a cap issue but it didn't help. Realising that the situation was lost (Armour below half) I switched the weapons back on and logged out figuring I wouldn't have to watch the explosion and might take the rat down with me. I logged back on and my ship was floating in space. Nowhere near the scene of the battle and not trying to engage warp. The mysteries of my case are: 1.Why wasn't my Omen trying to warp back to the place I logged out from. 2.Why couldn't I warp away? I was not in the belt - I was quite some distance away. I'm a long range fighter and approach belts at 40km. I can only assume that Sansha's Beast has warp scrambling and that my final "take him down with me" killed him soon enough to let me go but I'm not sure. I don't recall seeing any message and unfortunately the logs never got written to disk. That still begs the question of why my Omen was just floating in space when I logged back in.
