Manually converting au to km is a pretty crappy and labor intensive way to use the system scanner. EVE measures interplanetary distances in AU, why doesn't the system scanner?
Also, is there a reason for the range limitation other than 1111111111111111111111111111111 in binary equating to 2147483647 in decimal? (That was rhetorical)
Is there some reason you guys can't use a float so we can scan the whole system? The existing probe mechanics still prevent people from being precisely pinpointed across a 200au system, so I don't see the need for the limitation on the directional scanner other than developer convenience. - Support fixing the UI|Suggest Jita fixes|Compact logs |

I don't use the system scanner much, but if I remember correctly exploration probes automatically go from AU to KM once you drop below 0.1AU or so - perhaps the system scanner should do the same or even have both measurements in different columns?
Agreed though, it's not terribly helpful to know that an object is 1984375726 KM's away... ---------------- Tarminic - 34 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.81 (Updated 4/8) |

Simplest way would be to add a checkbox to the directional scanner that changes the used scale from km to AU when checked. There's enough room and the conversion can be done client side while the server keeps the km. -------- Ideas for: Mining Clouds

I support this change.
Could we also have the directional scanner show on the solarsystem f10 map view? It would be helpful to see the "searchlight" from your scanner sweeping the system... --

Better yet, can we have the searchlight display on the solar system map, and have an option for making the transition between ship view and system map instant? -

Au would be a nice change, though ironically for the first time last night I was using the scanner down to a resolution of about 20km. So I would like a toggle option, or anynumber entered greater than 14 is automatically km, otherwise, au.
And I think they ditched the searchlight because the scanner went into Three Dimensions. With that in mind, instead of a searchlight on the minimap, can we have a disc projected onto the celestial sphere based on the current Angle Cone we're set to?

Correct. Also with that setting you can hold Alt Gr and rotate the mouse wheel to go straight to the system map(from my experience F10 goes straight to the star map). ----
Nothing is as it appears; nor is it anything else.

The range limit is the is the max number a normal unsigned Int can have. As for inputing it in AU as long as there's an option to input in km as well. Sometimes you only want 500-2000km. Try writing that in AU... ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

I prefer a mix of 1au, 5au, 10au, max buttons and a custom option. There are situations where i want to scan in km; for instance during exploration where i want to know if someone is allready in a site or not or when scanning out a gate before jumping on it from a close range bookmark. - - -

Easy solution, either add radiobuttons with KM/AU/M values - or allow us to type 10au, 50km 5000m or whatever.

This please.
A few other things I'd like:
- A range slider bar
- Option for changing the size of the 5au range sphere
- Filter settings that can be saved and used separately from the overview * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

It really makes no sense for it to be a random number of km, that doesn't even fit into the size of the input box they provided.
Either make it in AU, or make it a slider, or ditch it. - - - - - - - - - Do not use dotted lines - - - - - - - If you think I'm awesome, say BOOO BOOO!! - Ductoris Neat look what I found - Kreul Hey, my marbles |

Seconded. Guessing whether a celestial body is in my scan cone or not is not very accurate. |

+1 both to the AU and the "cone" thingy, and while you are at it why dont you fix the solar system map too. Something in the lines of the homeworld's map would be nice. |

Either make it in AU, or make it a slider, or ditch it.
It's not random. It's the largest integer that can be represented within the confines of 32 bits in binary.
Whatever the solution, what we currently have is consistent with the rest of the UI. It's crap.
Here's the idea I like: Radio button to select km/au Text field to enter km/au and a radio button that selects 5/10/20/40au (the scan probe sizes).
Selecting this button "greys out" the text field. Clicking on the text field "greys out" the au selector radio buttons. - Support fixing the UI|Suggest Jita fixes|Compact logs |

I was gonna QFT this, but i just checked ingame and i think it is "more instant" than it once was considering how usefull it would be to be able to allign your scanner from that map, i'd call what delay there is acceptable. |

wow, just wow!
Who here actually remembers when scanning down ships in safes was an art? (Before scan probes)
CCP have already dumbed down the scanning/probing enough where any clueless Joe can launch a probe and push a button and yet there are still some people that find this hard... unreal
