I can fly a Rapier in 2 days. This is possibly one of the best options to counter nanos. But still.....
What about the Dominix?
Was thinking neuts and a drone range augmenter in highs. Cap booster in mids, maybe web/scram, something else? Lows heavy armor tank. All T2 tanking skills and Gal BS lvl 4.
Drones, now heres where I'm a little lost.
Training for T2 Ogers soon got T2 minmatar and gallente med and light drones already. All drone support skills to lvl 4. No sentry drones skills trained.
Should I train up senty drones? I heard that they could do well against a nano ship as they don't have to fly to it and can be pulled in at will. How should I fill my drone bay? lots of smalls? small and large? Small, large and sentry?
Suggestions? Or am I just off my rocker here?

Edit - Warrior IIs are the fastest drones.

Domi isnt a great choice for fighting nano ships, even with higher skills than you have. They probably wont be able to kill you solo, but you cant kill them either unless they do something dumb, and they can always hold you down till help arrives.
The only drones that have any chance of catching a decent nano ship are warrior IIs, and even they wont catch the faster ones. No nano pilot with half a brain will get himself within web range. Sentry drones can pop a nano ship quickly, but only if hes moving with little transversal, and is at decent range. So you can kick out sentries and pop one when hes on his approach or exit if hes dumb enough to do it in a straight line from you. Other than that, your best bet is to dock the domi and change ships.

sentries are worthless against nanos, dominix isnt best for that either but if u have to kill that damned fly, warriors II with omni track link and drone nav comp (2 of each, yeah im pervert ) is your best bet. Along with tracking disruptor (tracking script) so your drones wont get killed too fast. Targeting painter sometimes allows your big gun to hit.... do not count on it. Ever. Still a usefull tool. If nano is dumb enough to fly in your neuts range.... well wave it goodbye blast it and move along. All IMO. ---- Drones eat everything. Trust me. |

Edited by: Chr0nosX on 16/04/2008 18:55:34 If your looking for a bait setup for the odd nano ship. Use Ogre IIs. Neut dominix setup with 3 large neuts. Let him come to 18km. Slap the neuts on him hit mwd and overload web those 5km should go pretty quickly and you should be able to web him. Once hes webbed launch ogre IIs and kill him. Few nanos/ods in lows helps. 3 large neuts will instanuke most hac's cap but sometimes they fit cap boosters so you have to be quick.

Edited by: Trevor Warps on 16/04/2008 20:57:41 I'd wait for him to steady near you, either slowing down, or orbit, w-e. Then I'd nuke its cap with 2-3 neut and stagger the rest. At the same time i'd pop out a wing of webber drones. All at the same time approach him with mwd full blast. If you can manage to hit him with your webs (dual webs would be good), hes screwed. Pull back web drones and finish him with w-e dmg drones.
I wouldnt go too heavy on the tank, skip plates and armor rigs, imo.

A Vaga, unless super pimped, isn't out running Warrior IIs with a drone nav link behind it.
Another evil thing to do to ammar/minni nano hacs is to employ racial ECM against them. A major weak point of ammar and minmatar ships is overall weak sensor strength. Exploit that.

Well, if you're going to use sentries, you'll want to stay as far away from the fight as possible - 100km+ so that they can hit before the nano ships can close. You need a dedicated setup for that, so you'd need to lose the neuts and let the rest of the gang do the tackling. |

Edited by: Danari on 16/04/2008 22:45:22 I doubt a recon/hac pilot will take on a domi pilot of any credibility solo. I've seen some of the nastier domi pilots fight off gangs of five rather easily. But if you park one in a belt and make it believable, you could spring a nasty surprise. Fit a mwd, a couple neuts, a cap booster, a few sets of drones. Maybe one of those nasty structure mods that domis used to use, if they haven't been nerfed.
When he takes you on, tank him but don't align. Put a set of t1 heavy drones on him but otherwise give him the "deer in the headlights" look. The drones (in addition to his directional scanner which he's spamming the whole time) will help to keep his attention and slow his response. When his orbit has stabilized, pull your drones, hit your mwd, approach him, neut him to hell, and scram him while you send some hammerhead IIs at him. With an overloaded web you have a good chance of sucking him in.
Or you could have a m8 tank up a bs and park it in a belt while you sit there cloaked in a rapier.

IMO, the Domi should make a fairly decent anti-nano platform. You can tank the poo out of it, remote rep with it, or run neuts.
Check out the cap size on most nano ships some time, and you'll find that 2 neuts cap most out, and a third def will.
No cap = no MWD = No Range Control = Webbed = Dead.

this
the only drawback i find is that warrior II's will move fairly quickly....till they reach their target.
at which point they'll slow down to shoot, so you're really not getting *that* much dps in when you factor in the fact that they get a volley off and spend the next 3-4 seconds catching up to fire another

WTF? Were you referring to a web as ECM?
The ECCM lets you actually target and make sure your enemy isn't getting away.

Edited by: Cpt Branko on 17/04/2008 11:21:22 Well, we did use a semi-nanoed neut domi with web drones and drone nav computers to catch a nano-Sleipnir once.
He didn't see *that* coming, and as a bonus we ganked a nano-Huggin which warped in neut range of the Dominix thinking he'll do something to save the Sleipnir, he just got instant-capdeath, a bunch of very fast webber drones on him + jamming from a Falcon + a heating Hurricane on top of him... poof
Anyway, neuts work quite well, given you can insta-zap someone's cap (which is why half of them won't even come to 24km off you) and have some tacklers.
Just a word of advice: don't immediately fire off neuts / release web drones / etc. It scares them off in the initial phase of the fight... you want him to settle in a nice orbit after he sees you're harmless.
The last Vagabond I killed I just sat there tanked a bit in my Cane until he relaxed, firing one gun and HAMs just to make a show - if I had fired on him with all the guns and released Warrior IIs, I'd force him to go to 20+km to mitigate my damage enough for a 2x LSE II tank to whitstand it... this way he came to 13km to break me (he can't really do it at range unless he wants to spend about 4-5K of Barrage M until I run out of cap boosters). Heat web, heat MWD, ka-boom

Ahaha, yeah but you have to realise that Vagabond pilots have lots of things to worry about anyway, doing a 'look at' is too risky - if he bumps off on the gate or a asteroid he dies
However, he is stupid because, well, trying to save 3-4K of Barrage isn't worth risking your ship like that, nomatter how it looks like. A (almost) year old player flying a BC and -10 at the same time should probably give you a clue that he knows what to do with it, and Tier 2 BCs you should be wary of in general in a nanoship.
The thing with the Dominix, even if it's not a specific setup but a cookie-cutter dual neut one, he can kill a Vagabond easy once the Vagabond pilot decides to stop MWD-ing (which he must, he's not cap stable, and doesn't do DPS at the range) and get in 17-18km range where his DPS isn't worthless... if you zap his cap at this range and MWD off (and he must shut it doen eventually) - he's not reactivating it anymore, and his 500 m/s most likely won't be enough to take him out of your range once you MWD towards him even with the Dominix's slow acceleration (although, a istab+nano would greatly help your chances of catching him at this point, Dominixes accelerate like fat cows).

Once it starts actually engaging, yes you can kill it. If you fail, this is your problem.
You can't really catch nanoships at gates and stuff, because running is what they really really excel at.

Many a killboard disagrees with your assessment of the situation. Maybe you should learn to fight them - indeed, take some of the suggestions from the thread?
