Seems like CCP has reintroduced this as a "intended game feature". Last night we caught a guy on a gate, he started the pew, then jumped through when his Falcon alt couldn't bail him out of trouble. We had 2 guys ready on the other side, pointed and started the beat down again. Then his ship just vanished. He just logged off, supposedly with a 15 min PvP timer, but was gone, not even on scan.
Now I remember about a year ago, if you jumped through with no aggression at all and logged this would happen. So to combat it, we always shot people at least once before they jumped through so they had a 15 min PvP timer. When they tried the logoffski after thier jump, we had 15min to kill them. Seems like CCP has changed this recently, and now jumping a gate clears all aggression timers, so its free reign for anyone to Ctrl-Q if it gets to hot.
We tested this within the corp, had a little 2 way fight, then one of them jumps through after the 1 min timer. He logged as soon as he jumped, his ship tried to warp on the other side, and gets pointed. Not only did he just disappear, when he logged his ship was 1 million k out as if it had done an emergency warp.
So here was he BH reply: // This is by design. When a ship jumps through a gate, it clears all aggression. // The problem you have described as an intended game feature, and not a bug.
Thanks for taking us back in time CCP, maybe we should get the old stabs and Nano Phoons back to. |

If I'm not mistaken this was happening not only a year ago but even just before the latest patch was applied. jump -> clear all timers and log off. Seems that hasn't changed since the last patch
Sucks though :(
(ps, you nublet, fix your killboard ;-))

At least a year ago you could shoot someone before they jumped, then they had the timer, so they stayed around for 15 min. Compleat clearing of all timers after a jump is just teh ***. ------

Yeah, tactic used frequently.
Coupled with login/logout/login/logout any ship inc freighters can walk through low sec, as the emergancy warp will give them safespots.
IF you manage to tackle them after they have logged you have 30 secs to BBQ.
IF they jump through the gate and log under cloak they have no timers, (or twitch, cloak and log) you only have the few secs after the cloak wears off to turn them into a wreck b4 they vanish. If your gang cant lock and BBQ in 4 secs any target can escape.
Its a bloody joke imo. |

"Intended game feature" - Hah!
Maybe we should ALL start doing this. Seems CCP doesn't do anything about exploits until they're abused to the max.
I'd feel dirty if I did a logoffski though. ----------------------------------- You're not a pirate unless your -10 |

It has always been this way, at least you can bubble in 0.0 and get that 30/60s timer to kill them.

While i'm working over here in the US i'm forced to play eve on a laptop with wireless connection so as you can imagine i'm crashing out of game left right and center. Last night i warped to a gate to find a small size IVY fleet waiting i jumped through and crashed immediately. By the time eve desided to let me back in i was in a pod. My tempest bless her socks was a wreak. It is possible it would seem to keep to kill a target if they where todo what you said. They only had a raven scorp and hyp doing damage so that shouldnt have been enough to kill me off so quick. I'm guessing they kept bumping me with the smaller ships to prevent my warp so i must have been at gate for longer than 4 seconds. |

You don't warp though... you simply disappear so I don't think bumping works. Also, I can see 3 BS taking out another BS in time assuming it's not super-plated. ----------------------------------- You're not a pirate unless your -10 |

A few months ago, we had a roaming gang in geminate, tempest jumped in and tried this, put him in half-structure before he disappeared.
We waited.
He logged back on after about a half hour and exploded. |

rgr that your probably right there I've been out of game for a while. In response to what you are saying about logging i have no real opinion on the matter anymore as it seems to be a valid game tactic that most players are using to get out of being blobbed. |

I'll admit, this is the first time in a while I've had someone do this. However, it is fairly new, since Trinity maybe? Been playing 2+ years now, and in the past the mechanic was that you always kept agression flags when you jumped though a gate. So if he was shooting on one side and jumped, he'd be there for 15min on the other side if he logged. ------

This "intended game feature" is garbage. I understand the argument that this "feature" is there to help people with crappy connections, but I bet if there was a way to track it you would find that there are over 1,000 abuses for every one time this legitimately saves a person who lost connection. How much does this need to be abused before the complaints of the PvPers outweigh the complaints of the people on 56k?

You were unlucky, your hardners werent on as you crashed. Try it as a "trick". turn the tank on and log. Try it in a soak tanked BS or Frieghter.
It doesnt help those who actually crash, just those who log. IF it wasnt that the timer expired on a gate jump it wouldnt be so bad. BUT with a soak or heavy rep tanked BS you can fight, tank, de agro, jump and log and be safe from enemy tacklers. login , logout login logout. safe |

i think you misunderstand what i'm getting at, maybe i didn't saying correctly. I'm not saying i agree with it, i'm simply saying that it seems to me CCP allow it therefor its not the players who should be in question its the Game Rules in respect to allowing players to do it illegitimately. Anybody who knows anything about server administration will know that when a company says there logs show nothing what they are really saying is they do not want to put the effort into looking into the logs further. So a company who says that they can't prove that the player has done it intentional after they log on and off 3 times to place themselves in a safe is in fact telling porkies. |

I dont really remember when what was introduced etc, but it is at least 7 months or so ago for sure. Combined with the mentioned RA special, logon, logoff, logon, logoff etc it does suck. Even some farmers know this trick now it seems.

The issue of jumping clearing agression has always been in place, it wasn't fixed for any length of time since I've been playing. The loggin in/out to get a safespot was actually adressed in some patch notes around Rev2 IIRC. No idea if it's still working or not, but I do distinctly recall hearing about it being fixed. |

That's a major problem with this game, the secret list of intended game features is word of mouth or in someones bug hunter mail.
Crazy is right, a little over a year ago when I used to pvp, I'd chase flagged targets through gates, watch them warp 'n log and they would be on scanner till the 15 min timer ran out.

This tactic is a load of crap. One of my corp mates had a RA Freighter tackled while the rest of our gang was one jump ahead. The guy logs off and vanishes within 30 seconds. What happened to the risk in 0.0? |

The way it works is that you log off while still cloaked, and your ship appears for a few seconds between the cloak wearing off and the server removing your ship from the game. You can place a point on the ship during that time, but it won't start the aggro timer. |
