Just a suggestion. I find it a pain having to close to 1500m with a Cargo Can to open it. How about introducing a "Transporter" module (probably as a High Slot module) and a skill to use it? Initial range would be 2500km, with a 10% per level of "Transporter Operation" skill increase.
Rares could have more range. You'd have to target the can as you would with a cargo scanner, but when the window opened you'd be able to move stuff to your cargo hold.
Thinking ahead - another more advanced skill, "Combat Transporter Operations" could allow you to access items from another ships hold, IF the shields were down (or, since they can recharge mighty fast, less than 10%). I think this might reduce the amount of poddings as pirates would be able to take cargo without destroying the target ship. Weapons jammers would stop Transporters working. The advanced skill would add another 10% per level to range, thus making max range 5km.
It would also allow "Tranpsorter Mining" - an Indy could transport ore directly out of a mining ship's hold - providing the mining ship allowed the Indy to reduce it's shields to 10% or less .
I think as it's described, the penalty (learning two skills, sacrificing a high slot) and reward (saving some time, especially in slow ships), are about balanced, with the bonus of adding a new element to combat.
What do people think?

Great idea for cargo pickups, but I see two problems. One is that it could be abused by ore thiefs, which are annoying enough as is. Two is that usage on other ships would not be fair, and for one simple reason. Swipe a ship's ammo and their guns simply become hull ornaments. Way too unfair. |

I see it as a way to make energy weapons popular real fast. _________________

This could actually make the amarrs greatest "advantage"(lol) into something useful. but instead of the shields down test armor down and into structure. So energy weapons could actually become a viable asset on the battle field, for now if even try to fit some mega on an apoc everyone will wonder if youre stupid or just daft.

amarrians don't suck at PvP, their ships are made for fleet combat and concentrated fire.
