This morning at approximately 10am GMT 4 m0o ships, myself in a Raven, Omniwar, Doctor Strangelove and Motaka in Rifters engaged and destroyed Tyrrax Thorrk of Star Control who was piloting the Gold Magnate.
It is my pleasure to announce that we caught the engagement on fraps although the quality of the footage remains to be seen. At risk of sounding boastful, m0o corp has now destroyed 1 Imperial Apoc and has surely toppled said feat with this mornings destruction of one of EVE's few unique items.

Was a nice kill and the seccond most expencive ship kill in the game so far.

That didn't take long
At any rate the press release is correct apart from the fact it was I who engaged m0o and in my zealous stupidity kept shooting Omniwar's rifter just a bit too long.
Congratulations.
You took me out lag-free and in a fair fight, if I had to lose it to anybody I would have chosen m0o.
I'll post some screenshots after I've converted them etc.

Very nice kill, and good for Tyrrax for having the balls to fight in it.
No point in having something like that if you're going to let it rot in a hangar somewhere.

How ridiculous... These things should be used. the shouldn't sit in a hanger.
It is the same with the idle Imperial Apocs - If PIE had them they would not sit in hanger rusting - they would be used to smite the enemies of Amarr...

Sorry to say that the fraps is a bit borked.
But we can see the Gold Magnet take damage to about 50% armor and then I by mistake turned off fraps and activated it again to record the pod and the can, info window of the Gold Magnet is also seen to emphasize (sp) what ship it was that was downed.
But I was a bit surpiced he actually engaged since there were 4 of us and he was alone, he managed to take my rifter down to 87% structure before he figured out that he was in deep trauble and tried to escape, but with 2 webs on him he wasnt going anywhere.
Respect goes to Tyrrax for his bravery. Spawn of the Devil

Edited by: Zenst on 22/04/2004 11:13:18 Well respect again too Tyrrax Thorrk for not only flying in 0.0 space (saw few days ago http://www.oldhack.com/2004.04.18.06.30.jpg) but actualy using it in combat. Wouldn't be supprised if the Amarrian Emporer hear's of your loss and replaces it (nice story line =).
Shame about the fraps but nice kill. Shows how dull things have got when people have to fly unreplacable/uninsurable ships just for some excitement; But again kudos for actualy using it for what it was designed for.

That's too bad about the fraps.. I got some crappy screenshots, but nothing pretty of the explosion :/
I was carefully monitoring everyone's distance from me on autoscanner.. but as Omniwar said didn't respond fast enough when they got too close. Coolsprog's Crow Interceptor and some Aurora actor battleships were about the only good kills I got in my time piloting the Gold Magnate.. Coolsprog in a running battle with 5 m0o frigs.. (Where's the fraps of that Omniwar? ) All other kills were either frigates who engaged me or battleships/cruisers I assisted in the defeat of. (Or Aurora pods)
Glad it didn't die without doing at least *some* damage

We engaged Tyrrax and he engaged us several times, only twice were we close and once we succeded.
First time was in A2-V27 where we sacrifized one inty in order to try to get him but he escaped with severe damage.
Second time was when he was docked in gehi and we got a word that he was seen in the Gold Magnet earlier that day so we had 2 frigates near the exit of the station ready to warp jam and webify him while a Tempest was boosted to hell by a support ship close by to get few shots at him , we were ready to loose all ships in order to get that special frigate on our list, Tyrrax suspected faul play and undocked in a shuttle and quicly redocked again and the Tempest just scrathced it with his instalock and 11 tracking computers
Last of the three times was tonight when we succeded.
And getting such a uniqe ship on our kill list is a great accomplicment and we did not try to destroy it because we cant have it, we have alterad the game twice now, 1 Imperial Apoc down but there are more in the game, 1 Gold Magnet down and there are no more such ships and according to CCP there wont be ever again in the game so one could say we dealt a devistating blow to the Amarr Empire Spawn of the Devil

Hugely significant Hit with dire symbolic overtones for the entire Amarr EMpire (well, if you are a MInmatar believer it is anyway).
Deserves a huge sticky on EVE Guardian and much respect to Ty for using the ship to fight with. Respect also to m0o who have shown (once again) that they are no simple gate-gankers but put considerable time and effort into achieving kills and work hard to get the result despite failure in the past.

Usually I had one warp core stab fitted, was experimenting with a different setup when I lost. Don't think 1-2 wcs would've helped tbh.
And 5 ? cmon that's just lame. Then I wouldn't have had enough armor to survive 4 cruise missiles either. My setup when I engaged them quite simply wasn't up to par. Stupid.

yeah, i was impressed on how much damage you did, if i wouldnt had been so close to the jumpgate i think you could have taken me out. at first i didnt wanted to fight back as omni has helped me against CA a couple of times. but as you kept going i deployed my drones after awhile.
that other guy at the gate was just a bystander and wasnt toghter whit me, think he jumped out right when you engaged.
oh, and as i was armour tanking ofcourse you had no problems whit taking my shields down

As sad as it is to hear that one of the few really unique PC owned items in the game has been lost I am sure that now that the original is lost it will make it easier for CCP to award some lucky player with another one.
As for rolepley reasons for there being two... well why build one prototype when you can get two for just over twise the price :)

Small price for them to pay as they now go down in the history books for another first kill (first bship, imperial apoc, gold magnate).

I did allow him to blow up my rifter today when I chased him to T8H and warp jammed his Arbitrator there, I told the guys to not jump in yet,(2bs.s 1 frig) even though they were in jumping range.

not another amarr ship in sight, and flying for personal pleasure.

Congratulations to m0o for getting a truly unique trophy on your kill list and also to Tyrrax Thorrk for having the guts to use such a rare ship for its true purpose: fighting the enemies of the Empire. That sort of bravery deserves an imperial commendation, in my opinion... (not that the Emporor is likely to listen to a Gallente )

I don't get why M00 gets props for killing a frig with the help of 4 frigs and a raven though...if it had been a frig fight I would salute them for a good show but using a battleship to smack a frigate (although a powerfull one) is hardly impressive.

Even though its a "unique" ship, its still a ship, and worthless while docked no matter how uber the stats may be. Props to Tyrrax, I dont think many people would have the balls to take on a pack of m0o frigs alone in a rifter, or interceptor, much less a Gold Magnate.
Not your ship, so don't critisize.. if you had paid the money in order to buy it, then you'd get a say in how its used. _____________________________________ Perpetually driven, your end is our beginning. "Can I be a consultant for EVE II?" - WhiteDwarf |

Warhound> This is awsome man, I just bought this uber rare porche for 300k $. John Doe> Great man, how does it handle? Warhound> Well I just had it transported to my garage with an armor tanked 18 wheeler so it wouldnt be scrached and I havent tried it yet. John Doe> You think I could come and sit in when you try it later on? Warhound> No man, I wont ever drive it, it costs to much. John Doe> Well ok, but could i drop by later today to see it up close in the garage then ? Warhound> Hell no, I just oiled it and wrapped it up and I¦ll be damned if I let someone in the garage that might scrach it for me. Spawn of the Devil

hahaha well if you had big Gang of vigilante Car drivers driving around your block looking to ram and smash that expensive Porsche into little bits whenever you decided to drive to the burger bar i would let it be in the garage until authorities made the streets safe . RL comparisons dont work well in Eve..funny reading thou

Omniwar's example does work. The purpose of the car is to drive around. The purpose of the Gold Magnate was to fight. If you don't use either for their intended purpose, they are useless. Your example, however, does not fit.
And if you read the whole post, you would see that Tyrrax was out looking for trouble and was the one who initiated aggression. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |
