Jim,
I've been doing a bit of google-exploring and there are more than a few mentions of CRC errors with Athlon 64's.
Wierdly, some of the sites I looked at reported that programs which fail to install from a hard drive tend to install much more easily from a CD.
Have you tried burning the full download to CD then trying it from there?

That's worth a shot.
Honestly I've had no CRC errors with any programs except for with EVE, and I've installed quite a bit of software (just formatted). :/ ------

Edited by: Luc Boye on 24/04/2004 14:17:02 Considering that I get CRC errors on perfectly sane Athlon-XP I think the issue is with Eve. There may be differences across the boards and chipsets, but that doesnt mean that the hardware is broken.
Not that this helps, but it might make you feel better about your new rig
Have you tried downloading an installed Eve folder? Should work in the same manner as when you copy your Eve folder to use with 2nd account.

I'd recommend trying this great freeware util to test your rams.
It tests your ram with some patterns and takes less than ¢ hour for ¢ gig on std setting. There is also a burn-in all nighter but usually the std is all that is needed.
In my experience faulty modules or just a loose seating is a very common cause of sudden instability in a machine. How, and when you see the instability is dependant on where the fault is. So you can run windows and std apps all day long without problems, then you load up a ram-hog and the machine BSOD's because the fault is located "high" in your total ram.
Dl, write to a 1.44, boot from FD and you are set to go.

IF and only IF you find an error, checking the modules again after reseating them is a good idea. If the problem is still there, it's time to test the individual modules one by one, or in pairs. (dual channel opterons etc)

Like I've said, I have no issues with stability or any other programs on this computer. Only patching EVE has given me any errors what so ever, I can run EVE just fine though (downloaded someone elses EVE directory). Hell I've run two clients just dandy as well.
My RAM is fine, I have already run a memory diagnostic program and it checked out OK. ------

Edited by: Zipoldy on 24/04/2004 19:00:56 Had about the same problem..... Only thing that worked for me was taking my comp to a friend and move a working build from his comp straight to mine....

Edit : Just copy the Eve folder to your Comp from a Comp that it works on..
