CCP, please! Please! Please!
Tell us when to expect a Os X version that supports Premium Graphics. Give us a week, a month deadline! Give us a schedule. Or something like that!
I need to thrash my old windows laptop, and I would not to buy another Win machine. I could to buy a mega-power-MacBook Pro, but I would play EVE on it. So, please, tell us when you guys think to release Premium for Mac. Please! Please!
We apple-maniacs are desperately waiting for it!

I third! I think we've been fairly patient, however it's frustrating that there isn't even a revised target date. After all Q1 came and went already.

Don't want to step on anyones toes but we did have the following statement from CCP Whisper in this thread.
Quote: Now, while I can put my hand on my heart and claim with total honesty that there were good reasons to not deploy a Mac patch sooner, I cannot do the same for my omission to inform you, the users of the Mac client. One of the main things which makes EVE Online special is the degree of interaction the developers maintain with the playerbase, and not keeping you informed about something like this breaches that relationship. For that I apologise, and I will do my best not to have this happen again.

A post dated 2008.03.07! Almost two months ago. C'mon guys. We all know not to expect premium graphics for Q1, but I think it's fair to start setting another time-frame. Isn't it?

tbh, i dont care about the premium client - stability is more importand for me and then performance. And the premium client for windows is not the Formula 1 client ;-). At the end you have to disable all the effects and... then it looks booring too.....
Premium Client would be nice - if its runs stable and fast - but i dont believe at the easter Bunny - well not in 2008 ;-)

I must say that after the last patch I haven't had a single crash or stability issue anymore.
As for the performance, well it's ok at least on my machine. I can play on full effects/native resolution and I'm getting 50fps. Of course in big fleet battles...that changes. Of course...I think that happens on ANY machine (still, better is always better).
The premium client isn't a speeder that is true, but certain things run faster on it due to updated techs that it can use. Not sure though if macs can use that to their advantage in Eve, but I'm no expert on that. I'm just saying that if Performance in hardware isn't the key to the slow performance, but the software behind it...a premium client might actually be faster.
Of course...if both things suck... hardware and software...oh boy, a 3fps premium :)

CCP is relying on TransGaming for the bulk of the Premium Graphics client for OS X, as far as I know.
But I see we're approaching summer and still no Premium Graphics for Mac. Really though, it isn't just up to CCP. They're also subject to TransGaming's schedule, I would imagine.

Mh ... you're probably right, but what is quite disappointing to me is that we hear absolutely no words in about premium graphics new release date in months (!). I don't want to think who is subject to who. CCP is rensponsible for what they're saying. And the fact is that they told us "Q1".
Now we all love this really fabuolus game, but c'mon ccp guys! Plz! Tell us a date!

Well timetables always stretch that's nothing new. I'd just like to know if I need to "return to the underworld" and install XP with boot camp to get my premium...
Paying the same price as the PC versions...and no premium...no updates on the matter either....tsk tsk

Honestly ?
Until the Gfx on the classic client are sorted, there's no point seeing the premium client.
I'd rather hope we get the basics right before looking for the bells and whistles.
Given OS X is supposed to be slicker and faster than Windows, XP can still give me a 20 fps boost on my MacBook Pro.

Also remember that some graphical elements work FASTER on the premium (hardware support). So getting a better running eve might actually be due to the premium client. Of course this is speculation...because we have neither... no premium and a poorly running classic.
Perhaps we should change the question. When will we see a premium OR a client that runs as it should run...?

Maybe should we send a group petition asking CCP to at least give us a new release date..?
I mean, i can understand that it takes more time then planed but not telling us a word about what's going on isn't customer friendly.

I just started EVE for less than 2 weeks and i already find some graphics a bit sketchy(stations, background doesn't blend well etc), it's not AT ALL like what i saw on the trailers! and I checked before I downloaded the game and I thought the Premium Graphic was already available for Mac since it said 'Q1 of 2008' lol guess i should have check the forum first!
btw i hate the idea of running EVE on BootCamp(installing windows on a Mac when you can just buy a PC in the first place??), without mentioning having to buy a brand new Window Vista software(around 200 Euros the cheapest version)to install first. Most softwares/programs are either compatible on both platforms or have specific version for different platforms or not and they LET YOU know. What EVE just did is "oh we support all platforms, except that you don't get 100% of what you paid for if you're on Mac!"
I must say i am disappointed as a Mac user who newly joined EVE. Any words from CCP regarding this matter soon is better than nothing.

Sure, el cheapo PC = 600 buckazoids. Installing Bootcamp = free, copy of XP through online auction = 15-25 bucks = profit!
For the rest, being here from day 1 the Mac client of EVE was released, I've seen things go up and down, going left and right. ATM I'm quit happy the way things are. Yeah sure, would be nice if we had the *option* to choose between classic & premium graphics, but knowing my ingame PC compadres, the moment we get to fight they all are running classic. I'll be patient, we get it when we get it.
And except for the eye-candy there is no difference, mind you, beyond all the glitter lays a real deep environment waiting for you to be explored. ----------------------------- No, you cannot have my stuffÖ. |

Mh ... yes. Eve has a strong "data-driven" way of playing. There is no "aiming", there is no -real- need for a beautiful graphics. We almost could play it thru "command-line" or "DOS-mode" if we wanted to.
But ... hey, I WANT glitter graphics, 'cause we also know that Eve is a game made of loooong waiting sessions. Waiting for aggression, waiting for the right moment to undock, waiting for fill up that containter with precious ice, and so on!
So...
I WANT staying docked looking at gorgeus ship models! I WANT to stare at the stations monstrous detail. I WANT to see glow reflections on the hull.
Please, CCP, give us another expected release date. |

I wouldn't get your hopes up for a Premium release before the next next expansion, as in whatever is due in December of this year. The Premium graphics renderer requires D3D9c (Shader model 3.0) functionality, and at a moment that's a mess in Wine. They've only finally hammered out SM2.0 functionality, and that's on the Linux side. On the Mac side there are some outstanding issues with the GL Shader Language (GLSL) being fully supported/operational, which precludes SM2.0 operation never mind SM3.0 operation. Before we can have Premium graphics Apple needs to fix some stuff on their end, and a lot more work needs to go in to Wine to help it play well with SM3.0 graphics. That's not going to happen in the next two months.
Plus, as someone so eloquently pointed out, the client still isn't running very well with the Classic graphics. The Premium graphics mode isn't going to fix the crashing or the corruption, and it'll definitely be slower than the Classic graphics mode (just as it is on the Windows side) at a time when the Mac client is already slow enough. What you should be hoping for is Cedega finding a way to separate the EVE and Wine translation threads, the biggest holdup to performance right now is that everything the EVE client does and everything Wine does exists in a single thread on a single processor core. |

Allow me to once again point out some extremely poor business practices on CCP's part:
1) Advertised announcement with the release of Trinity that MAC & Linux will have premium graphics in early 08.
2) Late February roles around, CCP Casqade or GM Retrofire, post regarding the soon to be finalized release of premium graphics within 2-3 weeks. (Post is no where to be found now, wonder why?)
3) Constant out cry by the CUSTOMER for an explanation/information.
4) When is the last time CCP has said anything about MAC or Linux stuff - we're the illegitimate child that no one wants to touch.
Thankfully the client runs quite stable now, for most of us...
Please hire people who went to business school or at least some that have some common sense. Don't promise your customers something you can't deliver on and if you can't do it you really need to give us a lot more than a BS statement that is several months old.

The only thing that will get certain people's attention is for customers to stop subscribing to Eve. With such a lack of communication as to what is even going on I am considering dropping. Lack of customer communication is a real pet peeve with me. Anybody try Vendetta? At least their Mac client is a real native Mac client.

Well basically i think CCP regrets putting out the client for Mac as its helluva buggy and requires quite alot of support attention.
Stable client hmm debatable.

Well I'm not so sure if they regret it, but I do think they have this "WHAT NOW!!" feel with it. Of course the fixes that are needed from Apple's side are probably in the works (almost finished), due to EA and Id jumping into the ride.

Although I stick with my earlier posts, its aparent that CCP isn't as vocal as they used to be or promised like CCP Wishper did:
Quote: Now, while I can put my hand on my heart and claim with total honesty that there were good reasons to not deploy a Mac patch sooner, I cannot do the same for my omission to inform you, the users of the Mac client. So me to wonders what, if any, progress is made with the Mac client. Just tell us CCP we can take it, we're doomed right? Our only option is getting into (/me shudders) bootcamp right?

Edited by: Case Reiderer on 16/05/2008 20:06:52 @memkani:
Vendetta is a ton of fun!--for the first hour or two. You're actually controlling the flight and aiming of your ship, which makes it a completely different game from eve. The only problem is that the player base is non-existant, economy and crafting are simplistic, and the universe is a 2D grid about 20x20 squares large. The game is basically unplayable if you've even heard of Eve.
