Now, usually when I go through these forums it's full of pubbie whining scum who are moaning about pirates not paying ransoms, of course this brings the bad name for every pirate out there and destroys financial opportunities.
Whilst it isn't exactly thread worthy, I thought I'd post just to show that some pirates do indeed still honour ransoms, which I must admit was a slight surprise for me but it's a releived one at that.
I bought myself some Giga Beams in a low-sec system (Jita was out) and simply couldn't be arsed to either a) get an alt to scout or b) go further afeild, because I'm a lazy ****.
So, jump into said system stabbed/inertiad up the wazoo, bah HIC. Scrambled, guy ransoms accordingly and let's me go free.
Just destroying a few myths for you filthy carebears out there which refuse to pay ransoms.
Well, anyways, thank's for taking the time to read my medial tale and flame away. |

I have never been ransomed, but I think I would simply reject comunication with the pirate.
I'm paying no ransoms to anybody. I'd rather see my ship destroyed and have them loot the crumbles.
Because, let's be honest. They blow you up: fine. You move on.
But...they get your wallet, THEN blow you up...well, that has to itch you forever :P

Well, durrr, you lose less ISK when you pay a ransom and be on your merry way. Which is why it's a mutually beneficent arrangement.

Of course. IF you had anything but the looter's word for it. Which is always the only thing you have.

A lot of pirate-corps have rules in place to honour ransoms, not doing so means that member gets ejected from the corp. So I'd usually take an offered ransom from them if it was beneficial. Of course, you can never 100% trust someone to honour a ransom, but anything I fly in lowsec is hardly worth someone getting kicked from their corp for blowing.

Hundreds of satisfied Veto clients can't be wrong.
"Pay the Man" and off you go. It's that simple. Verone's policies insure client peace of mind.
Bear in mind that ransoms are not always practical to offer due to local tactical considerations . And 0.0 is ALWAYS a no-ransom zone.

I have done a few ransoms, and never dishounered them. Altough Ransoming in a fight is a PITA. Personally I prefer to ransom pods, considering T1 ships are often insured to the brim. I get the loot, and the money for the implants .

Veto always honors ransoms. However we offer them at our own discretion, as bone said, at times it is not wise for us to spend the 30-45 seconds it would take to convo, negotiate terms, and come to an agreement. However if a ransom offer is given, it is honored.

Similar situation, only difference being I was one of the mates on the giving end instead of the receiving end.
We locked down a faction BS in "our" system and had pounde through shields and most armor when we considered ransoming it. Someone mentioned in local a possible ransom but while we were setting to invite the chap to our private ransom channel things sort of went to pot and we just blew him up.
Wierd thing is that some random neutral in local chimed in with 10 mil ransom demand that the vict....errr client paid thinking it would save his ship. Well, when the random neut said he got paid we made sure we sent the guy his money back with an apology and our customer survey form.

This. Ransom offers really are a gift from a pirate. The pirate is taking a big risk that you might have friends moving in at any time. I rarely offer ransoms, but I did yesterday and of course honored it. Not because I actually care about the other player's ship either. The thing is it's REALLY bad buisiness practice to break ransoms.
If you break one not only will that person you broke it to not trust you, but they won't believe pirate's ransoms in the future. Not to mention anyone else they tell. Often a ransom breaker will find an army of ****ed off pirates on their own tail if word gets out. Simply put, it's more benificial to let them go then to milk em. _______________

As a general rule I'd say pirates in pirate corps will honour ransoms as its good business for both parties, they get their missions we get payment. I would advice against paying ransoms to people in npc corps and those that don't rely on it as an income.

Veto taught me how to ransom the hard way. Also taught me trying to split there AF gang with my trasher wasn't balls but bust. If a ransom isn't offered its either for a reason or they simply don't want to which is fine. Also some of the leeters that kill after successful ransom are actually rping badmen.

lol, smart neutral in local.
This is why I get on my corp mates about ransoming in local, it's bad business and alerts everyone present as to what is going on.
If someone has a high CSPA charge or rejects convo, I'll pop them. I'd rather keep a private transaction... well, private ------------
