When you look at the descriptions of planets at stars the descriptions of the planets are incredibly unrealistic. Most planets (everyone I've seen) says it has an average density of thousands of grams / cm^3. The densest substance we can create on earth is solid hydrogen with a density of around 70 g/cm^3. If the eve universe was just made up of super dense matter then I could understand, but then escape velocities and gravities would need to be adjusted. Additionally if you use the density and radius of a planet you should be able to calculate the mass of the planet, yet when you do, the mass is different. For example: Salah I has a density of 4100.6 g / cm^3 and a radius of 1,865 km or 1,865,000 meters. To find the volume of the planet use Volume = 4/3 (pi) * radius^3. You get a volume of 2.717*10^19 m3. Multiply this times the average density to get the total mass of the planet. First convert density to similar units. Density = 4100.6 g/cm^3 or 4,100,000 kg / m3. So, total mass should be: Mass = Density * Volume = (4.1 * 10^6) * (2.717 * 10^19) = 1.114 * 10^26 kg, but the planet says it has a density of 1.1 *10^23 kg. Why can't CCP use an algorithm to automatically calculate the correct mass? Why do planets register densities that are absurd? Additionally, when you look at the mass of a Titan, it says the titan has a mass of 1.6875*10^9 kg but are said to be able to affect the tides of planets. This is the mass of about 5 empire state buildings. A ship of that mass could not effect the tides of a planet at all. If 5 empire state buildings were to orbit the planet there would be no affect on tidal movements. The tides around Manhattan island aren't disrupted and there is an equivalent of many many titans worth of weight not even as distant as would be the case in planetary orbit. I like how CCP tries to include all this background information making the EVE universe deeper, yet it seems they pull numbers from random places to use. They don't need to make perfect estimates, but a density more than 57x greater than anything humanity can produce in a lab as an average measurement is ridiculous. The average density of the earth is estimated by scientists to be 5.515 g / cm^3. Please CCP, reevaluate how you define objects in the EVE universe to make a better and richer story.

Thanks Cailais!
I'm here on the set of the EVE Online Official Forums following this development. There are some new and disturbing revelations we're uncovering regarding this story. The news team here at channel 1337 has determined that there are, in fact, no sentient self-replicating robots inhabiting space that we are aware of. This comes as a blow to many pilots who rely on income from the supposed "Drone Regions" and this could have many negative effects on the economy that used to depend on the influx of high-end minerals generated by destroying these "rogue drones." I encourage all of our viewers to remain calm and please do not panic as this story develops. ---------------- Tarminic - 34 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.81 (Updated 4/8) |

Well, the situation doesn't look very good for the citizens of New Eden.
Despite the urgings of this reporter on behalf of channel 1337, the tensions caused by the recent revelations have continued unabated. Markets are reacting quite unfavorably to this news, though zero-sec miners have reportedly embraced this revelation as "something that should have been known years ago." Why this specific demographic has reacted so differently is unknown at this time.
I've just seen one of many Pod Pilots that are quite distraught over this development. How do you feel about this, sir?
Oh, excuse me viewers, he was unaware of the drone region calamity, he had just boarded a Pilgrim.

Well, harrowing scenes there viewers of man boarding a pilgrim seemingly unaware of just how bad a ship it is - such is the state of shock brought about by these incredible reports.
*adopts serious reflective tone*
We can only watch now, as the citizens of New Eden battle to come to terms with this news, watch and pray for those countless poor souls as they struggle to come to terms with such a devestating announcement.
*flashes the camera a pearly white grin*
Next on channel 1337! One of our well known roving reporters is caught on film in a flagrant posistion with a fedo whilst watching one of those holo reels.

Heh, based on the stats from the Amarr Homeworld they are, supposedly, utterly nocturnal pancake people.
But seriously. You go get a doctors degree in astrophysics (cause otherwise I can't really trust you know everything about all things stellar). Afterwards commit yourself to get a job here as the resident astrophysicist, or just as a contractor. Convince my superior that he should devote my attention to you. Sit down with me and we'll discuss some sane ways to re-calculate these stats based on the planets orbit distance from their star of stellar class X, their sattelites and the effects of their distance from other orbital bodies of the same star, the systems distance from the center of the universe, the effects of the systems around it, shape of the constellation it is in along with the plethora of other effects which would define the celestials statistics. Obviously there's more to it than just that. I wouldn't really know as I didn't have much time to dive into astrophysics while I was getting my computer science degree. Won't be very easy to accomplish through the limited scope of T-SQL but where there is will there is a way, no?
Even more seriously. A man who deserves all my respect spent a whole lot of his younger years to generate a seeder which produced the current EVE universe. I'm sure you mean no disrespect but at some point you realize you're losing yourself to the devil in the details and you arrive at a compromise. As after all you're making an MMO rather than a perfect replica of the Big Bang. Furthermore a lot of other great people spent a portion of their lifetime creating the lore behind the EVE universe and I reckon none of them had the time to study astrophysics on the side as they had to generate content to keep their jobs.
But I'm not kidding. You come to my desk with complex mathematics I can implement perfectly in X much time. I'll be happy to do it (and usually when people approach my desk I make a point out of making them understand they're diverting my attention from other things). But it has to be 100% perfect. 100%. I'm not going to waste my time to raise the bar from X% to Y% as it has zero gameplay effect and I do have things on my todo list which will imrpove the MMO we're making here.
Don't get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with perfection in theory. It's the practical bit that gets me. If you can make it practical, I'll make it happen.

It's interesting to read :P
I've noticed that most planets that has npc's stations - especially the homeworlds for each race - has incredibly strong gravity and they are incredibly cold.
Minmitar home system for example, they have several planets which are all very similar.
If i took a Vagabond, going at MWD speeds... and I entered orbit of my home planet and started going down into the atmosphere - as SOON as I dropped into the atmosphere, my entire Vagabond in less than a second would freeze completely to the point where it's as if my ship is made of chalk, the engine is still burning hot enough to keep going though. The force of the engine in that split second would then rip through the rest of my ships brittle hull, blowing it and my clone into a trillion pieces. The shards will then fall down to the planets surface at the speed of light due to the intense gravity, and and literally fuse to the ground because it dropped down at 100x faster then it could go intact with the MWD active. ____________________
