Hey guys,
I'm a real newbie when it comes to Eve. Only been playing for 4 days, but I love this game!
So far, I have trained and purchased a Cruiser, the Minmatar Stabber. However, I was reading an article that said was very against Cruisers for Solo play.
So I was curious about Assault Class Frigates. I need a pretty tough ship that can pack a punch. And I really do like the speed. Was thinking maybe a Wolf, as it has great armor and 5 hardpoints.
Anyone had experience with it? I am Special Forces, Brutor, and have some great pirateing skills like Microwarp and Warp Jammer, etc.
Thanks a bunch! Papa Gwan

Edited by: Nicholas Barker on 19/04/2008 01:58:44 Jaguar is an awesome assault frig, dunno about solo though.
interceptors are probably better off for solo stuff than assault frigates.
EDIT - thought i'd add abit more.
Solo stuff revolves around being absolutely awesome, or being able to pick fights and get out of the way when it turns bad, ceptors are fast as **** so can escape, and awesome stuff is like gankathrons that just tear the **** out stuff like a berserker gone mad. Although it's a rare treat to find a soloing mega nowadays. Although i suggest you look for some good videos in the video section of the forums. ---

The best ship you could get into would be a ruppy. Fit AC's, normal mids, and fit lows with 1600plate, DC, gyro, and whatever else fits. Drones fit 5 Ecm drones and go to town. If you don't have T2 mediums ac's try to web and get in close. That ship will put down almost any T1 cruiser. The AF's are kinda a ineffective fun boat so only fly them if your drunk or just want to fly something different

Assault frigates almost have a niche in PvP. In PvE a cruiser is better in every way at less than half the cost in isk, and a tiny fraction of the training time. If AFs cost half what a cruiser does then they might fit in between destroyers and cruisers, but as things stand they're Eve's red-headed stepchildren. A bit of fun for older players to scoot around in, but no real purpose that justifies their cost.
Stabbers are fun until you get your arse handed to you in a few seconds. Then most players climb into a Rupture and start training for a BC or BS. Bigger is almost invariably better in Eve.

As the above poster said, a rupture is likely your best bet.
Ive been flying assualt ships for nearly a year and a half and as it stands now theyre not good for a whole lot. A T1 cruiser of equal skill / expierience will rock an assualt ships world. They are the only T2 ship with no clearly defined role and thus no role bonus.
Theyre going to be more skill intense than a t1 cruiser, and require more practical in game expierience as well.
Plus, you can insure your T1 cruiser, which only cost half to a third of what a good AF is going to cost you, before fittings.
Right now I'd hold off on AFs untill you have more skill points, personally, as well as expierience and a slightly fatter wallet to blow screwing around and having fun.

Edited by: PapaGwan on 19/04/2008 02:42:40 Thanks a bunch for the quick replies, all! I really appreciate it. I'll see if I can get myself a Rupture for a decent price.
My ultimate goal is to be able to hold my own against PvE enemies, Solo of course, so mostly Frigates and Cruisers are what Ive fought so far. On the other hand, I love Pirating, so I need to be competitive in PvP as well.
So my next upgrade would probably be a BattleCruiser?

Edited by: Daer Vechesier on 19/04/2008 03:10:22 Training for turretskills (and all other skills you need for cruisers) will come in handy when you get into a battlecruiser so its a natural upgrade from the cruisers. Also the hurricane is one sweet boat

If your talking low sec you find the ruppy better bang for the buck sense you can use it to roam and throw away. I'd get into a ruppy then work all you bases.

Papa Gwam do yourself the biggest favor you can and train all the nessacary and relative support skills for flying your rupture or whatever you choose to fly.. Rupture is my personal favorite, the support skills are really what make a big difference with a ship.. the better your skill to fly, the better your ship will perform, making you the best PVPer you can be.
And Yes ECM drones are a must have.. they will jam any t1 cruiser not fitted with eccm and make a big difference when going against things like a thorax, or an arbitrator. Arbitrator is dangerous cuz its good to orbit at 20 and let the drones do the dmg.
