1.0.0.1 is up. Fixes: - Removed the default standings list -- everyone will alert as neutral until you set one up yourself. - Removed some code that was left over from beta that likely was preventing people from outside my alliance from using it - Made the limiter for the Arrive/Depart log actually work |

Id stop work untill the program is approved by CCP, rather than the method of data collection.

Since people seem to be too lazy or incompetent to follow the links provided by the OP here is what has been said by CCP regarding this program: Originally by: GM Grimmi There does not appear to be any violation of our EULA or TOS here so we believe this should be ok. Please be advised that we will thoroughly investigate any reports that would point to the contrary and reserve the right to change our minds if deemed appropriate.

I'm genuinely hoping this program is already violating the EULA; this application is reading information as it is provided from the server for the sake of metagaming.

Originally by: Lord Lycos if you read what i said, i acknowledged the METHOD was approved, in that thread what the data will actually do isn't mentioned.
Learn 2 read aswell?
I did read, I have been following the original thread since it was opened.
That GM quote comes from a thread that specificly states what that program will do, not just how it gets the data.
The GM did not only approve the means of collecting data, but the appilcation of that data.
Of course there was also the disclaimer that they reserve the right to change their minds regarding this application, but that is not in itself a reason to suspend development.

Originally by: CCP Lingorm Please do not take this as CCP approval, but I will go ask the appropriate people and get you a definitive answer.
Mostly because this is something that I would hope would be looked at at a level higher than the GMs. I won't be satisfied unless I hear something from Oveur.
While the "method" it grabs info from might be perfectly legit, It still basically enables you to play the game without even needing to pay attention to it, or have it open.

Originally by: Cesar Malari Gunfleet Logistics is proud to announce a product we've wanted to share with EVE for as long as we've been developing it: BACON.
BACON is a software tool that works with CCP's log server to collect real time data about entries and exits in a system that you are in. It then compares that data to a standings file, and sounds different tones/sounds depending on the status of each entry. For instance, if a war target enters the system, you hear a muted pistol shot. If an unknown enters, BACON sounds a click. Friendly and known entries are low tones. You also hear different tones when people leave the system. The sounds are completely configurable by the user, and can be imported and exported.
BACON's performance is, quite simply, real time. You can rely on BACON to let you know when someone enters the system you are in. If you happen to be in a different conversation window than Local, you still are alerted to system entries. If you happen to be quickly checking a forum, or momentarily distracted from EVE û BACON will save your ship.
BACON can log select EVE data to a secure server, without associating it with you. (System Enter/Exit, Station Enter/Leaves, Contact Logon/Logoffs only.) The user has absolute control of the data BACON sends: you can turn off all data, or filter it to only upload data on hostile forces, shielding friendly movements.
BACON's method of interaction with the log server and logs are EULA and TOS compliant and approved by CCP. Please see this thread for further information. (Specifically, CCP Lingorm and CCP GrimmiÆs statements) In addition, weÆre releasing the code under the GPL license for immediate community use and review. Gunfleet Logistics believes that it is important that everything be as open, transparent, and safe as possible.
For more information, please visit the installation pages at: http://bacon.gunfleet.org/
Thanks,
Gunfleet Logistics Cesar Malari, Mad Scientist.
so are you even playing the same game we are? If you want to avoid fights this bad, there are probably other games out there better suited for you.
Nobody has said it yet, so i will spell it out for you: your program is the work of the spineless whiners who are unaware they play a PVP spaceship game, and only wish to safely amass some ridiculous collection of pixelated ships without getting blown up.
Get a spine, stop being a chicken**** and learn to play the game, instead of moding it to avoid combat (*****). Your program sucks my hairy balls, and you should be banned for eliminating the tiny bit of lag free pvp we have left.

Oops, too late.
Not going to use this, though. I love staring at local, and it gives me more information than a little beep ever could.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started.

Extremely clever. However I hope to hell that CCP wakes up and swiftly kicks your product and any other like it to the curb. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I'm going to assume that the sounds are played through the program itself, and have no direct contact with the eve client. Peeping into logfiles and playing a sound is a far cry from peeping into logfiles and forcing a reaction from the eve-client itself (be it a warp out+cloak, ctrl+q or similar, etc).
But this really does make me

I was going to mention this actually.
Yeah, they did, and if I recall correctly it was a direct EULA violation. I don't remember why, I just know it was.

I don't really see what the problem with it is honestly... I mean, whenever I was out in lowsec and 0.0 a while back, I always had local open and looked. Fit a cloak onto my drake and had safespots, always SS'd out before I left. it makes it a little bit easier, potentially, but I don't really see why so many people are getting this angry over it. Its creative to say the least. (although I can understand people getting angry period, since it does exist as a tool for the lazy)
Honestly though, lets see what a higher up CCP says about it, before going RAWR. it is their decision alone. (and Honestly, I doubt for those few saying it - Don't honestly ever bet on a local change. you know its absolutely bottom on their priorities list at the time, given still lag, many really bad ships, and cap and supercap balance.)
Another one bites the dust. |

I don't see what the fuss is about really - this program is no different from the many addons you can use with WoW to improve various parts of the interface.
And people quite frankly need to calm down and stop acting so histerical when their only experience at pvp is killing afk miners.

If this program doesn't alert people to neuts/hostiles already in local this will be epic win when people start forgetting to look at local in the first place.
Otherwise this is clearly crap.
