So what class will you try in this upcoming game (if you try it)?
Here are the options: Linkage.
The PvP in this game is similar to WoW (no looting of corpses afaik) but at least it has collision detection and line of sight so you can use the environment to your advantage while fighting. Probably will be fun for a few months.
Im leaning towards trying the Bear Shaman first myself. Healing classes are hard to kill and this guy also seems to have good offensive power for a bit of imba touch. :)

I'd probably roll a Ranger and a Necro. Those classes always appealed to me.

I'm thinking either necromancer or demonologist. I'll have to see how the demo differs from my lock in wow (I'm thinking atm it'll be just a destruction lock). The dark templar and the tempest of set also looks interesting. As you can tell, I'm a caster man at heart. As for the looting in pvp issue, as far as I'm aware they haven't made a final decision yet

I would consider Age of Conan if it were based on the Conan franchise instead of the Arnold Schwarzenegger posedown special.

Demonologist or Assassin, if the description is anything like the way they'd play. But then again, I most probably won't stick around for the entire duration of just the trial, if they even have one.

Wth, he played the barbarian role to date. No one can match that. Ironically the greatest asset was that he could barely speak english so his dialogue is short and to the point.
The John Muilus Conan was great.
Oh, and Stygian all the way, I'm looking at the Necro and Herald of Xotli.
Ironically, Conan is working with a directional shield system I always felt should have been in this game so direction and placement matters. While I feel the way it's implemented in Conan is a bit iffy, it would be better in this game.

I'll try a Conqueror: heavily armored, offensive tank that also gives bonuses to his mates.
The dynamic attack and defense system looks promising, tougth I'm not sure it can be truly mastered, unless maybe by a four-handed mutant... ------------------------------------------

Originally by: scientology 1.8 What will make Age of Conan stand out among the other MMOs out there? Besides aiming to create a great representation of the sexy, savage and brutal Conan universe, one of the main goals with Age of Conan was to improve the MMO formula and take the genre in an innovative new direction. Funcom has focused on taking the best from past and current MMO games while creating innovative and fun new systems. Playing Age of Conan should feel new, fresh, and exciting.
One of the key features of Age of Conan is the unique combat system, which is a huge leap forward from both a technological and gameplay standpoint. Fighting in most MMOs involves targeting by clicking something, clicking auto attack, then occasionally clicking a special attack, but fighting in Age of Conan centers around something we call the Real Combat System.
In this innovative approach to MMO combat, you donÆt pick a ôtargetö and focus your attacks on that target. Instead, you actually move up to your foe and start swinging your weapon in different directions in real-time, using direction keys or even a gamepad. In this combat system, you can unleash devastating combos and even brutal finishing moves. Fighting feels dynamic, exciting, and most importantly, hands-on and real.
In ranged combat, you can actually string your bow and aim manually from a first person or over-the-shoulder viewpoint to strike your enemies, a first for any MMO. Spellcasters can combine a series of spells in what we call speallweaves, like combos for melee fighters, which unleash devastating results and fatalities.
In addition, Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures features mounted combat, where players can battle from the backs of everything from horses to mighty mammoths. Age of Conan is also one of the first MMOs to feature a Mature rating, giving us the freedom to create truly brutal battles, providing both a visceral and satisfying gaming experience while staying completely true to the Conan lore and story.
Age of Conan will not only showcase all the features you would expect from a triple-A MMORPG, it will also feature a limited single-player portion at the beginning of the game. Here, you will advance through a deep and involving story, where the focus is on you, your character, and your place in the world. After a few levels to learn your way around the game, you will start meeting other players and adventuring with them, but you will be able to switch between single-player and multiplayer content during the first twenty levels of your characterÆs life. This is a brand new approach to leading MMO players into a deep and engaging world, and it means we can focus on telling an exciting and meaningful story with widely interactive quests, while making sure both solo and group-focused players always have something to do. Finally, Age of Conan also features deep and engaging guild systems. Guilds can build and maintain entire cities and fight with other players for control of cities and resources, engaging in massive PvP battles to defend their homes (or destroy their enemiesÆ homes!).

What's important is that it looks like it plays smoothly, since it's action based.

I really like how the Bear Shaman looks. It reminds me of pug healer because it can do melee and support role. I'm not really sure how often I'll play though so might just role a assasin and solo alot. The game looks pretty good so far just hope the arena type of mini-games don't ruin outside pvp.

Dammit lost my post! Anyways last article I read about War was a seven pages of a regional boss that one of the factions could take down. You had to go out to a rvr arena and collect some widget with your buddies. Once you got enuff of the widgets you could take on the boss with a group of 20 or something. To me that sounds just awful and I'm steering way away from War/WoW. The good thing with AoC is atleast they'll have a FFA server.

Having been playing the beta for a while the most difficult class seems to be the assasins (impossible to grind with). Guardian is win as is barbarian. I have a personal gripe with the magic users as they didnt appear very often in the chronicles but in AoC every other person is a daemonologist or shaman, kinda a little sucky

magic users are invariably more powerful in the endgame.
even in single player mmos, you spend half the game running a proper main-tank to protect your wimpy cloth wearers, and the second half of the game nuking everything that moves whilst your fighter skulks around getting in the way of your AoE spells.
was hoping AoC would have fixed that imbalance, given that everybody should be running around dual wielding enormous axes and **** :(

That's what you get for making eleventy magic monkeys in a supposed low fantasy game. Just you wait for those armies clashing with mammoths are far as the eye can see and demons all around them 'cause that's how battles always were fought in the age of Conan.

At the risk of making a small pyramid . I guess my opinion is a bit skewed as the chronicles seemed to have almost no magic bar the big main baddie. Guess when you translate to the MMO market you have to add lots of those classes or it just wont appeal. Shame really that the markets diversity has shrunk to wow clones even for conan. On a side note, it does look very pretty, havent seen the DX10 content but im not willing to download another 8.8gb patch so close to release even then I dont know if its in it.

They could've easily went for another ranged class called Pikeman/Spearmen or whatever, having spears, javelins and shields but I guess you can't lure in the grats without the big blinding lights.

I can think of a fair few magic users in Conan, but it is true that they are rare. The ability to cast a few spells can get you the ear of a king or the eye of any number of manipulative women, frequently both. ---- Infiniband can do more than just prevent lag |
