Edited by: Feek on 23/04/2004 11:55:28 I had a skill scheduled to finish at 11:50. I was logged in and docked, but downstairs watching TV.
I come up 5 minutes early to start off a 13 hour skill and I find that the servers are already down.
This has really pi$$ed me off. I'd carefully planned my skills around the 12 hour downtime and I feel as though I've been jerked around somewhat.
It's bad enough having downtime on a Friday afternoon/evening (I'm in the UK), but to pull the plug early is just taking the biscuit.

Not really.
Skill scheduled to finish at 11:50, I come up at 11:45, five minutes before the end of the skill (I was already logged in and docked), fifteen minutes before the scheduled DT.

I totally agree with ya, but it is partly your own fault as well. Take this to heart: There is not a single plan which survives first contact with reality. Always expect something to go wrong

Ofc you have every right to be ****ed. But those of us who have got to know and love ccp will have a 24hr or longer skill training running. If the servers are actually up again at 00:00 I'll erm... erm... be shocked? |

You get to learn that when there is a patch day/maintanance day etc you set a long skill way before DT starts thus avoiding your prob. Anyway your only gonna miss about a day of training at the most, hardly something to cry over.

Looks like you shouldn't beleive what you are told :) I was less lucky than you. I was in the middle of a fight when the server went down at 11:20 GMT (approx.), and now instead that fight to be over in a matter of few minutes, I am stuck there who knows what will happen when the server gets back up online, since I will not be able to log in at that time. So don't pout :)
I am the one that should !!! :) hehe
BTW, anyone has any idea what might happen if I do get destroyed there? Actually, what will happen when the server comes back online (try a lucky guess?) will all the ships be there as they were .. in the middle of what they were doing.. or will they be a bit safer until a person logs on at least?

I'm in exactly the same position. I bet the servers come back up with your ship dead in space, not moving, no shield boosters, while the npc's come straight back up to speed and shoot you to bits. --

FYI: the server is starting up (325 sec) as we speak... perhaps ccp will give you a couple of minutes to set a new skill :)

Well I hope that this countdown of server coming up is for real.. And that they will let us get out of harm's way.
And it says now 353 secs till boot up. And counting :)

Well.. the scheduled downtime is 11-12... I don't know if they wasn't going to have that but otherwise it's not so odd..

AFIK, when the severs go down all ships vanish, when you log back on your ship should be in what ever state you left it in at the usual log-in safe spot.

Think of this poor n00b. I just started last night and played all night thro. I had no idea about a daily downtimes... whats that about???
I then find out about those, and then discover its a one off 12 hour job... I'm not training a skill either... Ah well, means I actually get some sleep...
I'd rather being playing...

Hey, I partly understand the anger - when a skill leveling is precisely tuned you damn well want it to go as planned. But if you're almost getting into a rage over it I think you should find another type of game to play. The MMORGP is probably one of the most difficult genres to be a developer in - and technical issues will be part of the playing experience (not that I'm generally condoning sloppy game development).
imho this game rocks, despite what happened today!

You do know you can interrupt training don't you? In this situation, you could have started training the new 13H skill 30 or so minutes before the current one completed and just finished it off at a later date. I do this all the time "to avoid dissapointment" and just finish off the interrupted ones whilst I'm online.
Just an idea...
