I'm new to the game and I'm not sure which of these professions would be best to start me off for PVP, any suggestions or insight would be great.

Depends on race and what ships you want to fly. Both are good. |

Can't go wrong with soldier, really. T2 Small Guns off the bat. I picked Special Forces but I kind of wish I had picked Soldier, although I can't imagine not having Drones V. I'm training Gunnery V as we speak. ---- In the beginning the Universe was created. Edited by: Archangel Reign on 23/04/2008 00:25:44 soldier is probably better, but as a minmatar spec forces,I was able to train for a MWD immediately, and I love speed :) since you can train any skill, doesn't matter, really.

I picked spec forces because it gave me good missile skills and decent EWAR skills. I wasn't too worried about DPS because the missiles were just for PvE. Really though, both are usually good depending on what you want to do with them. ___________ I Get Money in New Eden Federation |

Soldier ftw.
Special Forces has a lot of skills you won't need until much later on (if at all). [yellow]Your signature exceeds the maximum allowed dimensions of 400x120 pixels and filesize of 24000 bytes -Navigato |

Broadly speaking, Soldier for PVP, Spec Forces for PVE. Soldier can train T2 racial small guns immediately, Spec Forces usually has skills more related to a race's "speciality" (e.g. Caldari start with missile + ewar skills; Gallente start with crazy drone skills; Minmatar start with loads of Navigation skills).

I really haven't looked at all the races but the gallente special forces starts you off as a vexor pilot only without the cruiser skill book or a cruiser.
the caldari soldier is weird as there isn't really a good rail gun ship early on. but special forces drops you with 512k sp in missile bombardment (+50% flight time) i forget what other missile support skills come with each.
the other races, Im thinking soldier, as gunnery 5 and small turret 5 is great to have. |

both are good, but I'm torn too, as amarr spec forces have very nice energy skills to start with...and I can get a cruiser right away..hard to choose, even though, I know it doesn't truly matter. this guy is a soldier, though.

Make a trial acc, make 2 chars, one special ops, one soldier, then plug skillplan into eft.

Skills you get at the start are pretty insignificant compared to what you need to fly any advanced ship. The best way to go is a career which gets you skills from your low attributes (if you have high per/wil, get as many int/mem skills as you can).

This. I started my industrial character as a special forces gallente. the dronage is very effective for mining and missioning (which I occasionally endulge in). But continuing along Estal's line of thinking, the corporate executive would give you a decent fleet booster right out of the box (especially good since you're likely to have charisma as a low stat). And the engineer gets a lot of int/mem support skills. Not bad if you're weak in the appropriate areas.
