How hard is to keep the bookmark folders? Every patch folders just disappear, leaving me with 100 bookmarks to sort out.

Edited by: Omniwar on 24/04/2004 04:52:11 I have never problems with folders after patch, as far as I know then they are kept client side so if you uninstall EVE client when a new patch comes and install a fresh one to patch it then you loose all folders.
In 99% cases there is no need at all to make a fresh install.
On a side note, if you have a chaos folder then copy from that to your main TQ folder and your bookmarks should come again. Spawn of the Devil

Yeah you loose bookmark folders if you delete your whole cache folder. Don't delete settings folder and you should be fine.

Please CCP, make the folder serverside, It's a big pain when you have sort things out with 500 bookmarks.

I agree with sly. I'd really like to see server-side folders.

No, that would mean more data exchange between client and server... we don't need more lag, do we?

Indeed, I've also got this problem when I play from another computer.
Would it help if I just copied the files in the cache dir from one computer to another or doesn't that help?

BMs folder can be cached as all other things that are server side... i tink that server side BMs folders canot increase lag if cached.

Can't there be at least 2 or 3 server sides. It wold help a lot if you cod sort them by just a bit.

you need content of eve\cache\settings\ copied to new install dir or anohter machine (in the same spot on other eve install ofc) to retain ALL settings and ALL BM folders.
Your Heavy Neutron Blaster II perfectly strikes Serpentis Chief Sentinel, wrecking for 660.4 damage.

We have already thought about storing the folder structure on the server. The problem is the massive DB load. Just imagine each player pulling his config on login and sends a packet to the server on each change. Of course the changes can be cached in the client but you can not be sure that a change arrives on a server.
Anyway, the problem is known and will be fixed somehow.

Edited by: Luc Boye on 08/05/2005 01:28:55 Hey look at this old thread go \o/
Ok, here is my suggestion:
- a bookmarks and folders are tree structure and as such it should be trivial matter to calculate some checksum of it all - the checksum on client side and on server side are compared on login - if the checksum differs, the client side is updated from server (pulling whole tree)
Now, this way, you'd only need to pull the whole structure when you do fresh install, which is not so often, resulting in less DB load.
The new bookmarks should be added both to DB and client (upon sucessful DB update), thus keeping both sides in sync. When they are not in sync, the DB copy is regarded as master copy, and client is updated. Simple.
