Ok first here is my system software config atm: Arch linux 64 bit 3.2.7-1-ARCH wine-1.4-rc5-54-gca2c071 ( currently installed -git version from AUR, but also tried the usual wine wine_gecko ) OpenGL : ( Open source drivers) direct rendering: Yes server glx vendor string: SGI server glx version string: 1.4 ... OpenGL vendor string: X.Org OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD REDWOOD OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 7.11.2 OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20
Hardware: Acer TimelineX 3820TG ( Ati/amd Radeon 5650 mobility).
The problem : when I run eve or EVE.desktop the following happens : 100% reproducible :
emulated wine desktop starts I see the logo/Image of EVE
*terminal output : ./EVE.desktop: line 1: [Desktop: command not found fixme:heap:HeapSetInformation (nil) 1 (nil) 0 fixme:gameux:GameExplorerImpl_VerifyAccess (0x12aff8, L"D:\\Eve\\eve.exe", 0x33fd74) fixme:heap:HeapSetInformation (nil) 1 (nil) 0 fixme:heap:HeapSetInformation 0x48b000 0 0x33f31c 4 Network layer using: CarbonIO EVE Client version 7.22 build 342397 starting 18:50:07 Multi-Language System: Client using language [EN] Starting up Trinity through _trinity_deploy.dll ... fixme:dbghelp:elf_search_auxv can't find symbol in module wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0xffffffff at address 0xf5f70b41 (thread 0026), starting debugger...
And it crashes. But the nice blue wine desktop stays. (I can close it np about that)
Here is the crash report/wine debugger output: (in next post because It doesn't fit in this one lol) |

Found where people had seen some similar problems with Steam, there are suggestions on this page: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=19444 |

Thanks :) I will look into it... Your suggestion led me to think that there is potentially something wrong with some of the 3d / 32 bit 3d packages...
I did mess around with catalyst not too long ago & a script that did some monkey business with the libGL.so / libglx ...etc so I guess I will try to remove all video related drivers & packages and re install them.
So time to do that and I will report back if it works or not :) |

erm no ... I ran EVE for a brief test on radeon oss drivers (gallium) ... worked as well as the binary blob (except power management).
1.20 means ogl 2.1 that equals DX9 in features ... all requirements are met. You need 3.0 for DX10/11 ... |

In fact atm I am testing it on gtx 570 O.o and it still crashes...
Could it be that I have installed something wrong as dll's ?
I installed the following with winetricks: vcrun2005 vcrun2008 vcrun2010 corefonts
And those show as installed (but I didn't install them myself) : msxxml3 d3dx11_42 d3dx9_42
Edit: It seems it crashes at CQ only. If I switch off CQ it doesn't crash...
Strangely it doesn't crash in character customization... dunno why |

Seems like you are starting it with CQ enabled as well as I did. And it is broken in linux under wine. Once you get to character selection screen hit esc and disable CQ.
I think that should fix it... |
