Disclaimer: I am not pro or anti pirate. I simply have a practical question. I would appreciate if other posts (if any) on this thread were also practical.
I saw some threads discussing piracy and ransoms but they were mostly revolving around why you should or should not trust a pirate to honor ransom. It seems to me that both PVEers and pirates don't like people who don't honor ransoms.
So I have a hypothetical question to professional pirates:
What should I do if I payed ransom and still got blown up or podded? Should I contact their CEO (since most pirate corps don't tolerate this sort of thing)? Their alliance leaders? Post it on a forum (since other pirates might want to know who damages the business)? All of the above in that order?

Whatever path you choose make sure you're cool about it. Approaching any revenge tactic or even dealing with others to help you achieve revenge in a way that makes you seem out of control often leads to bad things for you and said douchebag getting away. |

Indeed. It seems to me that the reason why many people refuse to pay ransoms is because they feel completely out of control. They probably think that a pirate could break the ransom deal without any consequences.

Well thats because they can in general, if they're in an NPC corp. No one expects they're victems to come kill them back >: D

1) Contact the CEO about the matter. Work out a deal with him.
2) If the former fails, name and shame corp and member on forums.
The latter won't give you back your stuff, but at least you can warn others

Generally expose the pirate who does this to the other pirates. It's bad for business and usually they'll take care of it in the long term.
Other than that you can add to their bounty but that only really feeds their epeen.
If you have sufficient friends just camp out their system etc and get even.

This.
You can do a search and find many posts where CEO's have personally responded to this request, after performing a very in-depth check into Members' activities. It is definitely bad for business, and I know of a few CEO's who have taken serious action against their Corpmates (i.e. forum apologies, kicks, etc.) so you're not completely left in the dark.
I definitely agree with one of the other posts, to let 'cooler heads prevail', because as you've undoubtedly noticed, coming on the forums and whining or yelling about it, claiming its 'unfairness', is just asking for a poor response.

i'd go for the wardec approach if wasnt going to be a complete gut ripping, and as mentiond camp there known hot spots. Ensure that you request your ransom back, plus cost of destroyed vessel mutiplied several times. Play for 2 weeks for 24hours a day so he dont gt no peace. Or if you too weak or heavily outnumbered by the corp in Q hire noob mercs and enjoy. |

The other than that the other kill/wardec things suggested... tbh don't waste your isk wardeccing a corp with -10's if the pirate was an outlaw. Other pirates appreciate the info so they know not to blue said pirate corp for obvious reasons. But always come with proof of it happening, or people will just laugh at you. |

One sure fire way to not need to pay a ransom and save yourself a crap load of trouble, is to jump out your ship and warp your pod away. *snickers*

this is just rubbish - from what I have seen pirates will pop other pirates just as quick in any case, it's not like we see a flashy red come to gate and read his bio, check forums to see if he is a good pirate or not, even if the pirate is known to be bad or good will result in them getting popped.
pirates who are known to pod after ransom will find it harder to get into some corps, but that s about it!
Since ransoms are down anyway and the stupid WT0, it makes sense to ransom and then pop ship (I have not done this myself).
As I see it you can:
-Warn other players about them (forum/corps etc) -Try and pop them back (might make you feel better) -accept it and move on
As for paying ransoms I think that the vast majority of eve pirates will let you go after ransoms

Speaking of proof, would it help if I transfer money via a contract (to the pirate's corp) as opposed to using "give money" menu option?

Simple solution? Never, EVER pay ransoms, no matter how trustworthy the pirate is. I'd rather lose all my ships than pay some random fool not to blow me up. Paying ransoms stinks of submission. Eat the loss, get over it, and go kill the random fool, if u can

There's a guy in your alliance that successfully negotiated two separate ransom payments that keeps your alliance safe. You don't know who he is. But since we're duty bound to not wardec him, it's keeping you from losing all your ships.
