Heya Everyone!
I have some questions about ECM as I am a Caldari pilot and I have never had ECM explained to me properly. I have been using this guide here (Old?) and I am nervous that this is out of date.
If these questions have already been answered before please show me the thread in a link. I have searched the forum for an ECM thread and have been unlucky so far.
Currently I am piloting a Blackbird and I would like to use that as an example. I have Caldari Cruiser to level 5 and Most EW skills to either 4 or 5.
Here we go:
1. What exactly is optimal range as it relates to ECM? Is there any difference in falloff between turrets and ECM? My basic instinct is to relate this to turrets, but it doesn't seem right all the time. I understand that I want to stick my target at that range but what is going down when I move away or closer to the target.
2. What is the updated formula for getting the jam chance? I don't know if the old one is still correct.
3. What good are T2 jammers? Hypnos do the same for less cap.
Any more questions/clarification is invited, I want to get a good response to this going if possible. I feel like I am completely in the Dark on this and I am happy to be proved wrong.

1. Since that info you linked to contains information about rigs, then it is the most up to date info on ECM. From what I recall, ECM in falloff is 50% as effective. I'm sure someone knows more on the maths side of things than I do though.
2. It's [Jammer strength]/[target's sensor strength] x 100. Eg - [Spatial Destabilizer I: 3.6] vs [Blackbird: 20] x 100 = 18% chance to jam. Using 2 of these modules does not up the chance to 36%; rather, it gives you 2 lots of 18% chances. They are not cumulative.
3. T2 tend to be a little cheaper due to being buildable rather than relying on NPC drops. Demand for best named can be quit high because not every has the skills to use T2 variants.

1. Same as turrets.
2. See below:
For a single jammer: (Jamming Strength (JS) / Ship Sensor Strength (SSS))
For Multiple jammers of the same strength: (1-(1-(JS/SSS))^n) where n is the number of jammers.
3. Before the patch that reduced cap usage on ECM modules was implemented, cap was a major deal for ECM ships. Since that patch...if you have semi-decent cap skills, it's not an issue. Use either.
Here's a good guide: EWAR Guide

Thanks for the information, especially the formula.
