Greetings,
Maybe many people are going to insult me or whatever....but I was wondering what ship can kill a Vaga easily ? I have been flying Minmatar ships, i'm into Amarr now and going back to Gallente maybe. I the only reason to train Amarr is Pulse's laser optimal range just to shoot pirate's Vagas !
So, how do you manage to shoot a Vaga? Heavy neuts? a web Drake? Pulses and Conflagration ?
Thanks for your replies and don't let mean messages. If you don't like this topic just don't reply please.
Aaspa.

Generally speaking, a pair of heavy neuts will cap out a Vaga instantly. You could always put neut drones on him just to be sure. Vagas (as a general rule) don't cap boost.

OMG, Aaspa my friend. You told me to remember you to stick to your decision. Doing so now, why going back to Gallente ;-)
There are plenty of ways to kill Vagas. They die left and right all the time. Already forget the tactics of your old Alliance?
Lets talk ingame I might have something to share to you. --

nano vaga, nano curse, nano rapier (needs help), nano huginn. If you want to go after the nano you need a nano.
There are ways to "counter" a nano by annoying it until is leaves for easier targets. If you know you're going to be going after nanos you can specially fit battleships with neuts, faction webs, etc. Otherwise the best counter is to fly a nano.

any decent cruiser or bigger with a web or a heavy nuet (bs) will kill a vagabond, if the pilot is competant and the vaga pilot gets sloppy.
for eg. with a dominix, let the vaga pilot get comfey, let him shoot you perhaps launch some medium or light drones on him so he has to keep his speed up, aproach him with mwd OFF
DO NOT TRY TO NEUT HIM WHILE HE IS MOVING FAST HE WILL ESCAPE!!!.
wait till his cap drains a bit and he has to turn the mwd off to re-cap a little. as soon as he does this his speed will drop aproach with mwd on and neut him down, overload webs amd mwd and recall drones, IF he is sloppy he will miss this and you will cap him to 0 before he can hit the mwd, launch heavy drones and chuckle as another vaga dies.

Edited by: arbalesttom on 24/04/2008 11:57:55 Ive been trying out the battleship + (2) heavy neut thing much lately, i think in a realistic situation the vaga pilot still has a BIG chance to get away, just because as soon as his cap dissapears, odds will be big he is already out of webrange, and in that case a big bulky battleship WITH mwd has basicly no chance running into webrange. If you catch a vaga this way, its really 90% luck and 10% tactics (and vaga pilot screw-ups).

Tom - the important point here is that you need to wait until his MWD is inactive before you start the procedure. At this point you start MWDing towards him and neut his cap dry - so even when he notices he has no cap, he can't fire up the MWD to escape. Yes, the BSes are slow and bulky, but at ~1km/s will outpace a Vaga which probably does 500-600m/s without MWD. The only variable here is whether you can get within 13km and/or cycle the neut before his cap recharges enough to let him burst the MWD again - this obviously depends on the initial separation, the Vaga pilot's skills and his fitting (do people put LCBs on Vagas?) but in most cases I would think this would be possible. If you have a second heavy neut fitted (e.g. on a Domi), cycle it as you get up to speed and bring the distance down to 15-16km and the Vaga stands no chance of avoiding the web and thus his destruction. |

MWD doesn't matter if your not facing the right direction. And the vagas can orbit pretty fast so who knows where they will end up.

Not a bad tactic, wonder if it would work with a bc. |

heavy neuts - 24 km range, tech 2 warp disruptor - 24 km range decapped vagabond is anywhere between 15 km and 23.5 km
heavy NEUT Battleship speed base 200 m/s vagabond base speed 400+ m/s
vagabond goes out of range with its base speed and hits warp, 10 km to go at 200 m/s speed
perhaps the battleship needs true sansha disruptor and webifying drones, but its chances to kill a vagabond are still low
if the battleship had 2 neuts, MWD and some reduced DPS, he would still have problems killing the vagabond

Errr... The Vaga isn't overpowered, it's very good at hit and run tactics, but not at dps.
Many Vaga pilots will be forced to turn off the MWD to do any damage - this you're cue to neut, burn and web. |

Vagas are somewhat easy to kill, compared to other nanos, because they usually need to get close do do any respectable dmg, so they end up more vulnerable to webs, but mainly to neuts. As long as you have ACs or pulses, you will be able to hit the vaga if he's hitting you.(****ty DPS and crappy tank is what a vaga has at the end of the day) He will be forced to escape, and that's where the neuts are the only way to stop them(webs are the far second place, since they're a ***** to actually get in range of a vaga) Of course, you also need a 24km warp scrambler...
Also, keep in mind that although that is not a win, most solo vagas will not be able to kill a good solo ratting BS. Other nano ships can be a much stronger opponents. |
