how about just having a new api key only for combat log, only update it at downtime but include all kills involved in and not just final blow. If that happened all you would have to do was plug your combat api key in to your corp killboard and when you leave the corp just change the key, nobody can cheat that way and it can still be kept private. ____________________________________________________ Reality is for those who have no imagination. |

Also- how about giving killmails on pilots who autodestruct right before they're pewed.

Naturally if you get a KM, your api key will also get it. Personally I'm a bit hesitant to give people my secure API key unless I trust them.

So you know who the best or highest scorer is?
But to the op, I didn't bother with posting or trying to ind where my KM went. I just made it clear to my corp that I wasn't into score-whoring, may-be that's why I have taken to E-war and pinning and not just mass damage.

Why not a system where only death mials are sent to the pilot who lost there ship, and for the attackers they need to view there charcter info on the eve-online web site for related kills they have taken part in with only the account owner has access to , then its upto them to copy the mail and post to there corp/alliance killboard, or as someone has stated a api key type interface.

So you want to send killmails to everyone, but you want them to be only accessible through the website, instead of just having them available in-game through the current means ?
Why ?

Support 100%
Combat log is biased against the player as it includes all losses but not all kills. Annoying. -

Chronotis, why didn't you guys actually come up with an in-game integrated players rankings/killboard design instead of Kill Mails?
It is up to the involved parties to report that data. We will not force people into ELO rankings systems or publicise such data which is private. Wars are rarely won by those who killed the most and neither should it be our place to take away the mystery and uncertainty behind political intrigue, biased reporting or intelligence gathering by the many sides in a war.
We of course already analyse the combat logs for our own use
An official killboard is a great idea and I hope that the secrecy concerns can be addressed. Here's a way it could perhaps be done.
In the combat log there would be a "settings" page where you can set you secrecy level. 1. Show 2. Hide kill identity - you are not shown on the "involved" list but at the bottom after all that are listed there is a line that reads "x hidden involved" where you count as one of those. 3. Hide loss identity - when you lose a ship, the name/corp/alliance text reads "hidden", but otherwise the KM is shown 4. Hide losses - Losses are not individually shown (i.e. the actual KM), but are included in all stats that don't reveal your identity, such as the killers killstats. 5. Hide all - you're name never appears on the KB and you're losses are never shown but your kills/losses are included in all stats that don't reveal your identity.
Corps and alliances can set this too and set whether these setting are forced on all who are in it or not. It can also be set if when a player joins his settings get automaticly set to corp/alliance/militia/faction/npc-corp settings.
Militias would have the setting to "Show" and "automatic" but would not force those settings on members.
In addition people should be able to set a show-delay as is on many killboard and maybe hide based on region.
There should be a button too that says "Show all currently hidden" to enable players to show all kills/losses that have been kept secret so far but for next kills/losses the current secrecy level applies. Maybe there should even be a button that says "Hide all current"
Here's an example: Pirate corp P is pirating in high-sec but doesn't want other pirate corps to know from killmails that they're hunting there. The CEO sets it to "Hide all", "automatic" and "forced". Carebear C is doing a mission in a CNR and doesn't even know what a killmail is, he's never changed it from "Show". P now kills C with much grief and crying and smacking and profiting. The official killboard lists Carebear C as having lost his 3 billion fitted CNR by name but since all the involved members were in P and with "hide all" settings there's no-one listed in the killmail, just a line at the bottom that says "13 hidden involved".
Of course these secrecy settings only apply for kills as shown on the official EvE Battlestat Website, so entries in the combat log stay the way they are.
The only info that is always shown is when you look up a player/corp/alliance on Battlestat you can see what their settings are, e.g. Pirate corp P would be shown to have their settings on "Hide all".
If you can think of more settings that would be required please post!

Why ?
only the pilot who got the final blow gets kill-mail.
After reading all the replys to this thread the issues here are lagg and security. Sendign a kill mail to everyone who took part will casue lag,
The lag can be minimised by not sending out the KMs at all until downtime.
Quote: a ranking system where kill-mials can be viewd by everyone has personal security issues (ccp pointed this out),
Which is why they aren't doing an official killboard. Your suggested change to this idea has the same security implications as having everyone involved getting a copy of the KM would.
Though asking players to login through their web browser a lot more than they currently do causes a bit more security hassle for CCP, since CCP has no control about how secure the browsers are.
Quote: also somethign about extra work to be done during DT, some people complain about a daily DT, alone and extended.
I doubt it would lengthen the downtime by much, if at all.
Quote: The kill mails are all ready in the data base. Only the pilot who lost his ship needs to know immediatly of his loss. If you the attacker wants to view, copy or what ever, you can goto your account/ character info and pull the kills mails and do what ever you want in your own time
Which still needs the servers to do the processing to have the KMs linked to player accounts. Meaning the same amount of lag.
Quote: I just thought of a comprimise, that could posimble work for everyone
One that doesn't remove any complaints against sending the km to everyone, but does add extra hassle because people have to login to the website instead of accessing it from in-game.
