I was wondering what the best frig vs frig light missile would be if thats the only type of missile you could use. Also the best type of smartbomb vs light missiles. Thanks alot http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v441/Dillinger4/Felsin.jpg |

u can use a microsmartbomb against lights and heavies. best light missile imho is the bloodclaw cuz it's so freakin cheap and almost as good as the flameburst or whatever (thermal dmg, which is only slightly better than kinetic [bloodclaw])... once u start getting into cruise missiles and such, start specializing in EM and thermal dmg
a sick and cheap setup: get a breacher, 3xassault launcher, load em up with bloodclaws and u'll be doing dmg equivalent to cruise missiles

I would use Rifter:
3x 280mm (EMP S with good skills 60dmg) 1x Standard Missle Launcher ( Cruise or Heavy)or Assult Missle Launcher (defenders) med: 1x 1mn MWD 1x Small Shield Booster low: 1x Micro Axu Power Core 1x Cap Relay
Smart bomb: Small. I think you cant win Rifter even with kestrel with Cruise missles because with MWD you go 2.500m/s.. :)
Enjoy! :P

Lots of people skip this when they're starting out in combat, but it really pays to be anal about looking at the type of damage a missile does versus your target. Here's what I mean:
Joe frigate pilot is feeling pretty good about himself in his fast Kestrel loaded out with some cheap light missiles that do kinetic damage. He got a good price on the things, so he figures he can just spam them out and overwhelm his target. He picks a fight with Robby Rifter, webs him and starts firing missiles. Each missile does 75 points of kinetic damage, so he should destroy the Rifter quickly, right?
Except that a stock Rifters shields have a 40% resistance to kinetic damage, which means that each missile that hits only inflicts 45 points of damage to the shields, instead of 75. Assuming Joe brings down Robby's shields, he then moves on to the armor, which has a 25% resistance to kinetic damage. Each missile only does 56.25 points of damage to the armor. All of a sudden those cheap kinetic missiles don't look so good.
What I like to do is pick missiles according to what I want to do with them: I use em missiles to bring down shields (a Rifters shields have no resistance to em damage, so my missiles do their full damage to its shields), then switch to explosive missiles (a Rifters armor has only a 9% resistance to explosive damage, as opposed to the other types which it resists much better). Granted, I normally fire cruise missiles from my frigates, so it's just a matter of "load this launcher with a paradise cruise missile, those with devastators", but you should still take this into consideration with light missiles. Sure, it is a pain to switch missiles in the middle of a fight, but you're only losing 10 seconds (reload time) in order to maximize the damage your missiles do.

In any pvp situation, while you are spending time reloading to "maximize your damage," I've already blown you to bits.

thermal is the best vs shields/armor when it comes to pure ratio.
em and then reloading explosive is the most optimal but that requires reloading.
kinetic is only good against people with EM/Thermal hardeners, which of course a frigate won't be able to do. ------

I agree, switching missiles is far from good in most situations. Stopping to reload your 6 launchers on a Raven when the enemies shields are down might be enough for him to get the shields up and running again, for instance.

Edited by: Cao Cao on 24/04/2004 19:53:19 I've found that most people (in ships bigger than frigates) will have at a minimum at least one photon scattering field equipped (if not two) and a thermal hardener as well. So generally speaking I'll be tugging a good deal of Wrath cruise missiles. Now it is also my experience that once the shields are down, you can chew through armor fairly quickly using any ammo type except for really pure EM damage weapons like paradise cruise missiles (and although i've never used lasers I'd assume those too).
I would really recommend kinetic damage. They are decent against shields, and second best against armor. Carry some spare thermal, em, and explosive missiles as well but your main stock should be kinetic as that IMO is the best all-round damage type in most pvp situations. Pve prolly thermal is your best bet.
Cao
EDIT: Noticed you are asking about frig v. frig. I would still say kinetic.
