I want to know what you guys really think of manufacturing.
Does manufacturing horribly intertwine with the rest of eve world and items? Is manufacturing the worst thought out or badly planed sector in eve? Is it the most illogical part of eve? Do you think it is the most neglected sector by the developers? Did you want to be a manufacture but got bored because there is no deep specializing to it? Does it need more player interaction? Is it too easy, uncomplicated? Does it need more skills? Is the market and rat loot making it harder to make a profit? Does it need to be re-vamped or needs more content? Do you buy your own blue prints to make ships and items because manufacturing is so easy and cheaper? And is that messing up the trade markets in eve and people in business?
What do you think

Manufacturing is only workeable inside corps, you need high cost items BPOs/BPCs, you need free access to minerals and good research levels on your BPs in order to earn a decent margin.
If your item is too cheap, you will compete with loot traders, if you buy your minerals or have bad research levels for you BP you will loose money when aligning your prices with the market.
Manufacturing in EVE is disappointing.

Its very easy actually, I've made good profits in my first week of EVE with PE of only 2 and 3. Simply check the market before you produce anything. Then decide if selling the minerals is better. |

Being in a small corp, i dont manufacture at all. This is due to us specialising so we all mine the minerals and 1 guy spews out as many goods as he can.
We make about an extra 50% profit over and above what we would have got for the minerals on their own.
2 things.. location and price. You need to be able to sell at a profit but competitively. We sell thousands of one paticular thing in a certain base but even a few jumps away we sell hardly any. It can be done and means you make money whilst logged off. :)

i think its to easy to manufacture things for yourself , it kills manufacturing and trading.I mean no sense at all transporting items to your 0.0 base 20 jumps from center. You train a few hours of skill , buy bpc's and you can produce all basic items in your base.Much much faster, and much less dangerous.
This applies for all every day usage items and even to lesser ships.( for a bs it makes a difference to have good skills, cheaper).
I think manufacturing should require much more training and specialization.
I didnt intend to manufacture at all, but saw how a friend of mine copes in 0.0, instead of my all time headaches for ammo , drones and stuff , did the same, its the only reasonable way in 0.0 atm, produce in place.Nearly no skills needed.

I make decent money manufacturing and trading but yes, it's too easy...
Regardless if a basic cargohold expander sell for 10 isk at the next station over someone will buy mine at 10k at this station, it is le law.

Edited by: Koda on 26/04/2004 15:13:11 With some market savvy a player can carve out a niche for themselves.
First, find an item that has a consistent demand. IMHO modules popular with Pvp'ers are a good place to start as they go through equipment faster than miners.
Second, out of those modules, find one that has low manufacturing costs or doesn't require lots of high end ore. Low end items often have a good profit margin because the mark up, while a high percentage of manufacturing cost, doesn't translate to a lot of isk so players don't mind paying for it.
Third, acquire the BPO and research the hell out of it to further cut your building costs.
Finally, find a market that supports what you want to charge. It was amazing with the highways still in, how much prices between systems one jump apart differed (e.g. Luminaire and Yulai). So look around.
If you have access to stations in 0.0 and don't mind doing the Han Solo bit, you can get away with charging a lot more due to the convenience you offer of brining your products to your customers. Cheers and good luck.
Edit: And of course, manufacturing skills are a must.

I disagree! I found it MUCH easier to sell the high end equipment, for battleships and cruisers.I just bought some research blueprint copies which don't cut into the margin much. And it doesn't really matter what minerals I need, because I buy them all anyway. Also the low level equipment is hardly worth producing since you gotta sell large amounts and thats difficult since there is so much supply of frigate loot. |

In direct answer: Does manufacturing horribly intertwine with the rest of eve world and items? Yes. Is manufacturing the worst thought out or badly planed sector in eve? No. Corporation management and character individualisation are just two examples of worse. Do you think it is the most neglected sector by the developers? It is in the top 3... Does it need more player interaction? Yes. Is it too easy, uncomplicated? Yes. Does it need more skills? Yes, but this will not solve the problem alone. Is the market and rat loot making it harder to make a profit? Yes. Does it need to be re-vamped or needs more content? Yes. Do you buy your own blue prints to make ships and items because manufacturing is so easy and cheaper? Yes! And is that messing up the trade markets in eve and people in business? Yes! ____________________________________________ Ideas Lab - Forum Search Feature - Sign me! |
