Sure... the CSM effects the bottom line when you consider the free air fare and luxuries afforded to them to act as puppets for CCP.
Like I said, the CSM is a sanity check. The game designers sit down and talk with them about their ideas for the game and their possible implementations, and the CSM gives them feedback. If mass unsubs are the alternative, I'm pretty sure CCP doesn't mind paying airfare and lodging for 7 people a few times a year.
